This is kinda funny. I have the MLB channel. This isn't the deal where you can watch any team you want, they just have one game on three nights a week. So last night they had the Tigers/Indians game on. I'll be damned if there wasn't about a 2-hour rain delay in the second inning.

So I got to see a lot of the Boston game.

You lucky dog.

I saw the end of the Tigers/Indians game at about 2:00am. Indians won with a walk-off hit-by-pitch by Pauley in the bottom of the 14th. Incredibly dissapointing.

Heard about it in the morning. I went to bed. When I saw it went 14 innings I was surprised they finished it.

I went to bed too, but got up for a nocturnal bathroom break (middle age...ugh). Took a quick look at espn.com to see how the game ended and when I saw it was still being played in the 13th inning I stayed up and watched the end. Surprisingly there was still a decent crowd at the stadium, although everyone including the players, coaches, and announcers looked very tired. Who can blame them. Thats' a long time to work for the crappiest possible result.

Was a frustrating game to watch from what I saw with both teams not able to move baserunners. Great defense like Cabrara's diving catch in the 13th. Just wish the outcome was different but they can make it right with a win tonight.

On Boston was at a game there once when I was little my parents got all the tourist in the section we were in to root for the Tigers

I hope the Cubs give Zambrano the boot and they need to fire Quade. A quality manager would have pulled Carlos as it was clear he getting his head beat in.

GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!

I disagree that Quade should be fired. Obviously I watch the team daily and there's no way you can fix the mess that Cubs management created.

Not his fault that Soriano was signed for $136m, Zambrano for $91m and my god, Miltlon Bradley?!?!

Thank goodness I have Dombrowski running my Tiggers.

Former Braves pitcher and announcer Ernie Johnson, part of that great broadcast crew with Pete and Skip has passed away at 87.

RIP

I think the Twins are going to get on a roll though -- most of their players are back, rested & hyped not to disappoint their sellout crowds any more like against Detroit -- it all depends on how their pitching holds up --

yes, and the genius spaketh that with 11 losses in their last 13 games, yes the guru/visionary than I am...
still, would be surprised if they lot more they won the rest of the way -- if the law of averages is in their favor, their lineup should be intact the rest of the way -- they're out of the race so there's no pressure -- it's Detroit and New York this week, what better place to start than winning those 2 big-time series -- with that power-laden regular lineup, which has always been able to overcome the spotty pitching -- oh that's right, get well soon Michael Cuddyer (neck strain incurred during BP, took a swing & heard something pop etc etc yawn) -- he's having a darn good year though & they need him in there...

Sawx are in good shape -- we're playing well & will show next week that that the weekend series was just a fluke -- favorable schedule, well TB, then KC, Baltimore & Seattle after that -- NY is always dangerous & the two ancient enemies will be taking swings at each other the rest of the way as far as in & out of 1st place -- then we will show them the door come playoff time
...taking 1st place & not the WC is crucial in the AL East...
go Sox

Why do I have a feeling of another August and September collapse by the Tigers. There is no urgency from them they just seem content to win a few lose a few and then come October oh look we missed the playoffs again

Was hoping a win tonight would be a start to a 6-0 week against the Twins and Cleveland which would show who the best team in the AL Centeral is but its not meant to be. Effin Jim Thome

Oh and I guess a congrats to Jim Thome is in order for #600

Congrats to Jim Thome. Classy guy, great moment with his teammates and family on the field. The guy has spent most of his career sticking it to the Tiggers. How ironic that he got 600 against us.

The 2 wildcard races -- already sewed up
the Cubbies have been out of it all year, will be interesting to see what the ChiSox draw for the big series w/Cleveland -- suddenly the ChiSox are back at .500 making things interesting in the AL Central -- their most recent boxscore only said 25G though
with Young gone & the jury still out on Span, at least that settles the Twins' lineup for the final six weeks -- will be interesting to see what Mauer & Morneau do -- if they stay healthy
Yep, Jim Thome has played for most of those ALCentral teams, & a class act indeed

The MLB Network was just just showing the 50 greatest meltdowns. Mostly fights. My boy George Brett was the top one. I hope kids couldn't read lips back then.

Justin Verlander is the best pitcher in baseball. Period.

Verlander, Sabathia, Halliday, Lincecum, King Felix, Clayton Kershaw, Ian Kennedy -- there's a lot of good ones -- Zach Greinke is taking form into a monster for Milwaukee nowadays -- who themselves are becoming the team to beat in the NL -- 18 wins last 20 games

now the neck syndrome is affecting AGon, supposedly -- just 2 HR in his last 199 at-bats, so now they're saying it's the neck -- big Papi to miss a week w/bursitis

the toll the game of baseball takes on the players' bodies is weird -- their injuries occur in no other sport, that much we know

Wow, Atlanta & Milwaukee, the two "sister" franchises (Boston Braves-Milwaukee Braves-Milwaukee Brewers-Atlanta Braves) -- smokin' -- could give Philly more than what they bargained for post-season

Probably a homer but Youk deserves to be on the DL -- his case is legit, he's been banged up w/medically-legitimate dings (balls off foot esp, but HBP's, hard slides etc) -- & Ellsbury too -- that was a painful HBP Saturday (fastball right in the back) & he could use the time off -- he's played every game & Ells has been A Monster -- absolutely MVP stuff this year
hopefully Papi's heel heals healthy -- realistic postseason hopes can't be entertained w/out the big guy, who's having another great year

it's anyone's least favorite subject but...
Blackburn, gets hit hard, leaves game claiming "anterior forearm soreness"
Denard Span, ongoing concussion victim -- 2nd year in a row TC has lost key starter for half the season to concuss
another new baseballism -- Michael Cuddyer, who they finally figured out has "a herniation" in his neck...
herniated discs yes -- how does a neck become "herniated" -- this occurred during an easy swing at batting practice btw
Justin M's latest ding, a "sore foot" & held out of Sunday's game & who knows how much longer -- he hasn't recovered his stroke, obviously
anyways the Twins lead the league in wuss injuries -- Gardenhire's credibility has to be questioned, they're playing with no urgency At All -- Joe M had 3 hits Sunday, is closing in on .300 & seems to have gotten over that strange-even-for-baseball "bilateral leg weakness" -- but by & large MN's bad pitching & complete lack of fire as a team has made this a bad year -- 15 out of 19 & counting (losses)

One final rant
don't know if I read this right or not, but they plan to build a statue at Texas Rangers stadium in honor of the fan who died earlier this month when he fell reaching for a ball thrown to him by Josh Hamilton...
a statue?
seems strange to me -- OK, done
