Another 8th inning burst for the Tigers in there win over Toronto.

I think this one is easy. Jose Reyes as you mention. In the AL Adrian Gonzalez with Paul Konerko a fairly close second.

Have the Pirates turned things around, or what?

What's up with Jayson Werth? Hitting .223 with 80 punchouts in 300 AB.

Yes, and good for them.

And the Cubs still SUCK! ROYALLY.

God, watching that loss to the Nationals today was excruciating. Kerry Wood can't throw ONE strike and Quade, instead of taking him out immediately, leaves him in to walk in the tying run and then in the bottom of the 10th, Marmol LETS Jason Werth WALK to third and then to top it off, throws a wild pitch to end the pathetically played (by the Cubs) game.

I really don't think they're as good as some AAA teams right now.

I agree about the Pirates. For a franchise with such a great history, they've been mailing it in for the last 10+ years. I'm happy to see them back in the mix. Great ballpark, too.

Saw the end of that Cub game. Losing a game on a WP is about as bad as it gets! They are a mess.

I completely agree about the Pirates. Love the town, the people in Pittsburgh and the ballpark - me and Tunney caught a game there after Bobofest (ABB and DB&GS in Pittsburgh in '05 with Bob O' Brien, a man who was loved by many and who I was very lucky to have met) and man, that is a beautiful place to watch a ballgame.

At least the Cubs have Wrigley....don't have a manager, GM or an owner with a clue, or a Major League Ballclub, but they do have Wrigley Field. I used to live about 5 blocks from there.....really miss that neighborhood.

Yes it was..... especially since we got to see the setlist ahead of time, and then watched for the 3-4 beer breaks that Lee took during the show......

The tickets on stage were thanks to old_time_fan and Butch......

It was almost as bad as the Rockford show.

Almost.

They haven't been over .500 this late in the season since 1999 -- go Pirates -- it helps that they're in a weak division, but the fact is they're 1 1/2 out & have really improved -- SD showed last year that you could win on a low budget, now the Bucs are too -- had never heard of the Presley kid before this morning's box score -- hopefully they can keep it going against a down & out Houston team
it's awesome to see the ballclub playing to a larger & larger audience in that ballpark -- if they continue to play hard & stay in it, PNC will become like the Twins' new park -- packed every night, & not a bad view of the field anywhere -- these new, smaller parks have been great for the game

noticed that about Jayson Werth too -- no surprise, just another overpaid-rated free agent who came back to earth -- his team though, wow -- from this morning's paper, "the Nationals' last 8 wins have either been by 1 run, or in extra innings, and four of their last 8 home games have been walkoff victories. Washington is outscoring teams 58-26 for the season in the 9th inning and later."
Their fans have gotta like that hustle -- imagine they'll start outdrawing the Orioles pretty soon...

c'mon Sox -- am with ya John Lackey -- turn it around & discredit the naysayers printing their trash in the papers (Herald) -- Youk is a banged-up ballplayer right now -- Big Papi has cooled off completely, his bloop double yesterday ended an 0-22 streak, the longest drought in his career -- Buccholz won't be back until the end of the month -- they should really be looking at the kids like Navarro, Reddick & Sutton -- they've made things happen

What about Jake Peavy -- after several years of injuries while collecting a huge paycheck (like so many of his peers) -- 4 innings of one-hit ball in relief yesterday, plus 7 Ks -- "who'd-a-thunkit"

Peavy is starting tonite -- he has a 4-1 record -- hadn't known he'd been pitching that much -- maybe after all these injury-plagued yers he's starting to get his groove back -- he should mop up against royally lowly KC

Pittsburgh, as, or if, they keep winning, will push back the above-.500 benchmark -- they're now at 1992, the last great team they had, since being 4 games over this late in the season -- would be Awesome to see 'em keepit going

they weren't even in the same zip code a month ago, but now just 7 back for the Twins going into their key series against the ChiSox -- just like that they'd be right back in the thick of it if they sweep or win that series -- like Bucs in the NL Central, the Twins have been helped Greatly by playing in the weak AL Central -- who knows what could happen if Span, Kubel, Morneau, Delmon Young, their injured pitchers etc. -- suddenly got healthy in time for the dog days of August -- this thing is completely within MN's reach...

SAWX -- let's go Red Sox

I thought the Cubs made some bad signings.

But then we have the White Sox signing of Adam Dunn. Holy crap.

He currently has 8 homers, is batting .166 and has struck out 110 times. IN 74 GAMES!

Living in Chicago I can watch every one of their games and even though I am not a Sox fan, I actually feel bad for the guy. Never saw this one coming.

It is impressive

I have been to Cooperstown 20+ times, but never for an induction. Just too much craziness up there for that.
But when DJ gets there, I may just have to make an exception.

When Jet gets in it will be about like Woodstock.

RIP, Dick Williams
First year managing, 1967, he took the formerly lifeless Red Sox to the pennant in one of the most exciting pennant races in baseball history, permanently transforming Boston into a baseball town -- and won wherever he went after that
