That was a tough, awful injury alright -- I just hope the kid gets better, both physically, and as far as playing the game the same way when he comes back

bottom line to me is that most of the Giants felt that it was a clean play -- plays that have been made forever, but is now receiving atention because of the injury and Buster's status as a player -- he seems like the type of player who would say that the rules shouldn't be changed

Sox, wailin' -- best record in baseball since May 1 -- Carl Crawford, playing out of his mind -- kids like Sutton, Redick contributing -- & Wake going tonite -- let his ball be knuckling

MLB's newest injury (from this morning)
Reds pitcher Homer Bailey
who felt pain after a swing of the bat
because of what they later called "a shoulder spasm"
I personally have never heard of this condition before -- didn't know it was possible to have a shoulder spasm -- back spasm yes

another pitcher yesterday, don't recall who, had happen to him what all senior citizens fear
he slipped and fell
in his case, trying to field a ball
down on the grass for five minutes, needed assistance off the field, done for most of the rest of the season

Get well soon, Buster Posey

Yep, it was totally a clean play according to the rules. My opinion is that the rules need to be changed. I just think these crashes could be greatly reduced if they were to do what I suggest.

Also, the catcher isn't the only one at risk. That runner launched himself at Posey. He coulda been seriously hurt as well. If the catcher is guarding the plate without the ball and the runner wants to take the chance, then knock the guy on his butt if that's what you want to do as the runner.

If the catcher doesn't have the ball, the runner is probably okay to simply slide.

I'll go back to my softball example. If the catcher is blocking the plate without the ball, it isn't like I can call the runner safe, move runners up, etc. just cuz the catcher is blocking the plate. It is simply that if the catcher is blocking the plate without the ball, he is fair game to get knocked on his butt.

If the catcher has possesion of the ball and the runner plows into him, I immediately eject the runner from the game.

It really isn't that complicated in my opinion.

I should be the commissioner.

that info was from the morning paper
but guess what
ESPN is now saying the poor soul instead was rushed to the DL due to
"a sprained posterior capsule in his right shoulder"

WHERE THE **** DO THEY COME UP WITH ALL THIS MEDICAL JARGON?!?!

it gets more and more ridiculous -- every day -- these wusses can't even swing the bat without moaning and groaning

I was just watching a show on the MLB Network and they were showing Steve Howe. Anyone remember him? I think he was suspended like SEVEN times for substance abuse violations.

When I was a kid I spent the summers with my Grandparents who lived a few streets over from his Grama. I had a newspaper route and delivered papers to his Grama. Real nice lady. In these days, we had to collect the money in person weekly. She always tipped me a few extra quarters.

One time I brought over a baseball card of Steve and asked her to get it signed for me the next time she saw him. He got into trouble (again) so I never got my autograph. I never asked her about it and she never mentioned it either. What would you say to an 11 year-old kid anyway?

Howe was one of the best stoppers in the league. He broke in about the same time as Valenzuela did. The Dodgers were really a tough team in those days.

Yanks got a great pitching performance from a 68 year-old re-tread yesterday.

I think they are going to look up Gaylord Perry next.

Watching the White Sox / Red Sox game. The White Sox just announced that Friday, June 24th is Mullet Night at the 'ol ballpark. Leave it to them to have a promotion like that.

I just read in the newspaper that Gary Carter has brain cancer and inoperable tumors. He was one my favorite players when I was a kid.

maybe they'll get 300 or so at-bats from Justin this year

Wrong, he's been in every game, and his hitting is starting to come around -- he's still below .250, but has had several multiple-hit games lately, including 2 HRs last night -- really wanna see this great ballplayer start cranking again -- you go Justin, rock on bro

this isn't the Twins' year though -- they have No Pitching -- that combined with no Mauer & bad years (up to this point) from Morneau & Delmon Young...

but hopefully those guys will get going & Mauer comes back & they make at least a respectable year out of it

Was good to see Tek swing the bat last night -- 3 straight losses is no big deal, it's only June 1 -- and summertime summertime sum-sum-summertime...

Go Sox -- maybe Wake will have a miracle renaissance (?) year & we'll tear up the league -- Wakey is amazing -- he could be doing this into his 50s IMO -- Pedroia & Youk haven't really hit yet -- in short, "we're right where we wanna be"

it seems way to early to say this but this upcoming series with the Tigers is pretty huge. Adam Dunn is an epic disappointment so far.

He'll come around. Especially hitting in that park.

I just found out I have tickets for the game Sunday. I plan to wear my Tiggers hat and jersey proudly.

Along with a bullet-proof vest.

The Cell has ultimately turned out to be a great park to see baseball in. Great view, excellent food, ample bathrooms, ample parking, easy access. Reinsdorf deserves a ton of credit for all the improvements around the Cell neighborhood as well as the west side/ United Center. As an owner, nobody has given back to the city like he has.
Oh and good luck to the Tigers, after they leave that is.

I really like The Cell as a ballpark. You are right about the amenities. Good food, lots of space to walk and you never have to wait in the restroom line. We always get the cheapest lower-tier seats available and kind of roam around. I like watching from the outfield rails. The bullpen bar is really cool too.

Jim Northrup passed away yesterday. He was 71.

I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and he was always a true gentleman. Really enjoyed meeting fans and signing autographs.

RIP Jim.
