Wow, glad he won't be in the AL East, or the AL at all for that matter, but wow.

And he can let it ring for a while...he's got the leverage now.

Exactly.

We did just sign Rusell Martin though.

Ugh.

Will really hurt the Yankees short term but may benefit them long term. I think we can all imagine Lee being a shell of himself in that seventh year. As for Pettitte, he doesn't need leverage. It's not about money or years with him. He will either return or he won't. Let's hope Burnett can get it back together.

Agree; terrible signing. Need to find out if Montero has it or not. The Yankees remind me of celebrities who have their enterogue search out women for them at a club. They need to do some work on their own and stop relying on other teams to be their farm system. The core 4 started that way. Money can't buy you love (or a penant)

I think it's going to buy the Phillies one.

Hey, my Giants beat them and Cliff Lee separately; no reason they can't beat them together. Teams don't always gel; though those 4 pitchers aren't head cases. But, Rollins has been injury prone; Howard is the type of guy like Mo Vaughn who can get old overnight. They lost Werth; Utley came back (successfully) from an injury last year.

You still have to play the season.

But, the finances of baseball are nuts. A 32 year old pitcher isn't worth more than 4 years. But, the teams live of monopoly money that we all underwrite (tax breaks; tax laws that allow big corps to write off tickets.

Perhaps but rarely does a team actually buy a pennant. You never know what can happen over the course of a season.

I don't know guys. I just read that NY is gonna make Posada the regular DH and by signing Martin they have two catchers. Obviously they must not be sold on the kid yet.

The Yanks signed Mark Prior yesterday. Might as well phone in the pennant for them.

It's part of the yanks new off season strategy...CASH FOR CLUNKERS!

1 - 5 million is a lot for mediocrity
2 - If they aren't sold on Montero they should have traded him last year for Lee. At some point in time you need to pull the tripper (like the Giants did with Posey) - This is a Dave Collins type of signing.

Sounds like trade bait. But for WHO is the big question.

As for Prior.. No-risk there. Minor league deal, see what he has left (if anything)

And he WAS going to Seattle for Lee.
Seatlle chose Texas over NY

A lot of the NY press said that the Montero offer was less than sincere; the Yankess were so confident that they would get them in the offseason.
