Congrats to the Giants - you deserve it. So, in hindsight maybe the Phillies didn't suck too bad - just lost to a team playing better ball. Generally don't like McCarver either (ever hear how pronounces Ruiz or Sanchez?) but he was dead on in suggesting pitching around Renteria just before the ball left the field for a 3-run homer. In that spot you have to go after the weaker hitter - who cares about a guy on first base!

I'm with you. The day after the World Series ends always is a downer to some extent. No baseball for about 5 months.

But it is time for

HOT NBA ACTION!

Clyde King too -- former Yankee manager -- not as prolific as Sparky but still a baseball lifer

he was one of three NY managers in 1982

In one of the great World Series involving numerous Hall of Fame players & managers, Dick Williams & the Oakland A's beat Sparky's Big Red Machine in the 1972 World Series

Then Sparky, now in the AL, turned the tables a dozen years later, piloting the AL Tigers to the World Series over Williams' San Diego Padres

two of the greats -- trying to find Williams comments on Sparky's passing

I read today where Selig wants to add another wild card team into the playoff format, five teams total in each league. The two wild card teams would play a best of 5 to determine who advances. (this must mean the public is clamoring for it.)

Yeah, I heard about this a couple of weeks ago. I don't like it. I would rather they make the first round series best of seven and leave it at that.

I heard it's supposed to be a one game playoff between the two wild card teams. Not exactly fair. Take this year for example in the AL. The Yankees would have had to play the Red Sox for a winner take all game when Boston finished 6 games behind NY.

Then again, maybe that's what Bud is thinking. With the Rays ascending, this would keep Boston and NY in the playoffs.

IMO, that's a dumb idea. It means 6 teams will not play for a week while the first series is played. Historically, teams that have a layoff, like they sweep the LCS, generally don't do well in the next series.

And when will the WS end? Thanksgiving?

Agreed keep baseball playoffs the way they are now

I need some Yankee fans opinions will the next five or so years see them be a middle of the road team?

For the Tigers I'd like to see them get Carl Crawford if not sign back Ordonez for a year or two. Could use a veteran starting pitcher maybe Carl Pavano to go with the rest of the rotation. Maybe they will go big but I would like them to play some of the younger players because building through the draft and not through just free agency has been proven to work

Thats what Im getting at that team is old by baseball standards and we all know that they go after veteran talent and tend not to let there own players develop which may hurt them in the long run
