Right on.

I actually like the way things are setting up from here on out. The match up tonight is a good one for the Yanks. AJ will step up and we're facing the weakest of the Texas starters.

Then tomorrow night, CC on full rest, at home...all signs look good for that one. That means we're up 3-2 going into the final two games...no way does Hughes pitch as bad as he did in game 2...

All in all, I still really like the Yanks chances in this series

And perhaps I'm wearing my Yankee blinders, but there's no other shortstop that I'd want out there than Derek Jeter.

That's smart. Look let's face it. The Yankees do not win the world series every year. On average they only win one out of every four. And of course they tend to win in clumps so there have been decent blocks of time between wins for example the nine years between 2000 and 2009 amd the eighteen years between 1978 and 1996. So for the many fans whose favorite team is whoeverisplayingtheyankees, you have an excellent shot every year.

And having only experienced 7 world series championships for my team in my life I naturally want to experience more. You fans of whoeverisplayingtheyankees have it easy. Your team is winning around 75 percent of the time.

Oh, enough with the "Everybody picks on the Yankees" crap.

Last night's TV ratings...

MNF Titans vs. Jags horrible abhorration involving 2 teams from 2 weak markets - 7.2
MLB Rangers-Yankees marquee matchup in two giant markets - 6.5

(H/T Bill Simmons)

Personally, I think the rest of the country is sick of having the Yankees and Red Sox jammed down their throats year after year by the Eastcoast Sports Programming Network.

I don't know. I think that whoeverisplayingtheyankees is very popular nationally at least from the amount of commentary I am seeing. You can't expect the national networks to broadcast less popular games when whoeverisplayingtheyankees is available. I myself have no problem watching my team the New York Yankees on local television. But people who are out of the New York area will only be able to see their favorite team whoeverisplayingtheyankees if they are on the national broadcast. I prefer local broadcasters anyway so would have no problem if the Yankees never appeared on national television.

The Yankees and Red Sox are always on ESPN or Fox a multitude of times every season. Entire series. Then there is the SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight constant obsession with those two teams.

I've said it before. The Yankees, Red Sox and the other 4 top money making teams should just start a 6 team superleague and just play each other.

For your "Yankee hate" theory to be true, then surely more people would have tuned in at the prospect of seeing them lose than would a really crappy MNF game. They didn't.

If people hated the Yankees as much as you think they do, more folks would still watch them. I say that even more people are just sick of the Yankees win or lose and disgusted with baseball in general.

I'm just fooling around. Actually most of the Yankee hate is based right here in New York. As Pete will attest most Mets fans probably hate the Yankees as much as they like the Mets. The real problem is that televised baseball does not have that kind of appeal whether it's the Yankees or anyone else. This is especially so during the 162 game season when one game doesn't mean that much anyway. I'm surprised they get any ratings at all. So they want to showcase the teams that will get the largest ratings even though even that is quite meagher. The Yankees are likely among the most popular (as well as most hated) teams in the country even though as a percentage of overall fandom it is still low. The reason is just because New York has a lot of people as well as a lot of expatriates who have moved elsewhere. The answer to being bored of the Yankees on national t.v. is simply to not watch as most people are doing.

I think that has more to do with the baseball game being on TBS and the football game being on ESPN...

No one watches TBS.

Plus, I think you could argue football is way more popular than baseball, hence the higher ratings...

Thank you. I get sick of the announcers canonizing every Yankee player. The only thing more insufferable about that is their fans who whine when someone doesn't agree with that assessment. Eff the Yankees. It's fun to watch them lose.

What broadcast were you watching? All I heard were endless acculades to St. Cliff.

What part of ESPN do you need explained to you?

ESPN is in it to make money. What kind of ratings do you think they'd get if they showed the Brewers playing the Pirates all the time?

Texas is flat out crushing the ball right now and their pitching staff has been just this side of perfect. Have to hand it to them. They've played an excellent series so far.

I just refuse to do that. I love the match up today for the Yanks. Win this one today and stranger things have happened. Sure, it won't be easy. But I refuse to give up...

Definitely have to hand it to the Rangers, though...they're a fine team.
