Looks like Manny is going to the windy city...I just hope they have him signed by Friday when the White Sox come to Fenway, that could be fun (assuming Earl doesn't foul the entire weekend).

not much of it in their hometown either
11,900 for their game tonite? -- for the best team in MLB?
Lame -- even the Pirates draw better
Go Sox -- Tampa Bay is a great team, no doubt about it, but we'll show them the door w/3 straight butt kickings this weekend in Fenway

Things that contribute to ATL's crowds.

1. Atlanta metro area consists of probably about 50-60% transplants.
2. A TON of their seats are corporate-purchased season tickets.
3. Transplants don't really care if they go or not.

It has always tickled me how a team like Chicago will come to town, and some dumba## announcer will say "Look at all of the Cubs' fans that made the trip down from Chicago!!!!!!!". They never consider the fact that there are probably half a million Chicago transplants living in the ATL.

You beat me to the punch on that one. The Braves don't even sell out playoff games. I imagine the demographics of the Marlins and Rays are like this as well. Being a baseball junkie, I would go see anyone play but a lot of people just like the local team from where they are from.

Turner Field in Atlanta is more than half empty as well.

Even in Cincinnati, the hottest team in baseball, w/Triple Crown candidate Joey Votto the talk of the majors, & with the newest phee-nom, Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman, making his heralded 100-mph debut -- less than 20G last night

Go Sox -- let it be 8 straight over Balt., the ChiSox & TB

Hey Doug, nice walk off wild pitch. To the Royals, no less.

It's still so hard for me to take the Rangers seriously, even with the bats coming around, players returning from the DL, and the season Hamilton is having. What a waste is they don't make some noise in the playoffs.

How bout the Redlegs!!! 8 game up on the Cards! Guys coming off the bench hitting upper deck homers. Jay Bruce replaces injured Brandon Phillips in the leadoff spot and hits 3 home runs! Aroldis Chapman, Mr 105 gets his first win tonight.

Awesome stuff going on between Albert Puljos & Joey Votto -- can't remember when A player, much less 2, have had this realistic a shot at the Triple Crown -- that St.L-Cincy Laybah Day series should be a bahn-burnah

NAHHT
The Cahds have folded --
Votto & Puljos are still battling though, & there's a third kid, Gonzalez (Colorado), who's on the Triple Crown periphery & still w/an outside mathematical shot too

kinda like the Sawx -- having a helluva year but a little too far out on the bubble chasing the other two

head to head matchup last night of two Cy Young pitchers, Lincecum & Jiminez, huge game in SF -- & many empty seats -- one of lower attendances for them this year (31K)

very strange this trend of shrinking crowds -- it's sure to change over the weekend though

kicked to the Yawkey Way curb awn Laybah Day weekend -- 6 1/2 is not yet a mathematical impossibility though

no matter what the Sox' farm system is one of if not the best in baseball -- their Triple A players have responded awesome this year

Twins haven't lost since Friday, when all their greats were introduced at the new stadium -- Kirby posthumously, Killebrew, Oliva, Hrbek, Dan Gladden, Chili Davis, Don Baylor etc. -- who were probably all dismayed at the decimated condition of the roster -- Morneau may have a Carmen Vingo type injury -- a great career in jeopardy, just awful -- MN has done great to do as well as they have this year w/out Morneau & Nathan -- it may not last though as they have numerous players & pitchers w/the typical strains & other things

SD ends skid, with their overflow crowd hanging on every pitch -- Not -- less than half full, for the Dodgers -- the Pads were one of the best before this streak, AND w/the 2nd-lowest payroll, but have only averaged 25G this year -- guess baseball isn't the thing in SD -- nor in TB, Atlanta, Cincinnati & other first-place cities where the turnout has also been lackluster this year -- very surprising

And yet, maybe not -- I mean it's always right in the papers about what people read & their impression of major league ballplayers & paying huge $ to see a game played by this injury-prone of players

just this morning for instance...
Rookie pitcher in Fla on Sunday makes dazzling big-league debut -- allows 1 hit in six shutout innings in first-ever MLB start, a young kid pumped to the nines...
...who then leaves the game -- with an injury
incurred, while running to first base
what kind of injury you might ask?
you'd never believe it -- something you never see in MLB
a "strained qudricep"

THAT is what people will remember about this kid & MLBers in general, not how he pitched, & should be that way
sorry for being unable to shut up about this stuff -- but it's Every Single Day in the paper, these utterly nothing & avoidable "injuries"
Peace & you rock, BoSox -- with ya every step of the way

At 12th of 16, I'm surprised Cincy isn't drawing better...

Checked on Lance Berkman since joining the Yankees. He's 12-51(.235) 0 HR, 4 RBI...Ouch. Rumor is he wants to go back to Houston, if they would want him back.

That's right where San Diego is too, tied for 12th-worst w/Cincy w/nearly identical numbers (25G) -- Atlanta was just over 30G, more than I thought, but they've been well under that in recent homestands -- Tampa Bay, unbelievable -- averaging only 22G per home game this year

fragile athletes & exorbitant ticket prices -- not the right equation for big-time attendance
