Hey! Everyone want to see what a douche looks like?

quote:
Royals owner Glass spikes rumors that he wants to sell the team
By BOB DUTTON
The Kansas City Star

David Glass has a definitive answer to persistent rumors circulating that he is looking to sell the Royals:

“I have never ever talked to anyone about selling the club,” he said. “Period. I have never had a discussion with anyone about it, and I have no interest in doing so.”

Those rumors continue to buzz through the blogosphere, fueled by occasional discussion on talk radio, but Glass said he was unaware of them until questioned Thursday by The Kansas City Star.

“The only guys who hear rumors are you guys in the media,” he said. “I’m surprised to hear that (we’re looking to sell the club). We’ve never considered it. We’ve never talked to anybody. And we have no interest in talking to anybody about it. Period.”

Glass bought the Royals in April 2000 from the estate of the late Ewing Kauffman after serving the previous seven years as interim chairman and chief executive officer following Kauffman’s death in 1993.

The club, under Glass’ stewardship, experienced a staggering decline in competitiveness after spending the two previous decades among the game’s elite franchises.

The Royals have only one winning season since 1994 and carried a 51-69 record into Thursday’s game against Cleveland at Kauffman Stadium.

Even so, the organization shows signs of reinvigorating itself following sharp increases in funding for scouting and player development over the last four-plus seasons under general manager Dayton Moore.

The club’s farm system now appears loaded with high-end prospects.

“I want to be around for the good times,” Glass chuckled. “I don’t want to miss that. I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think the organization is doing it the right way.

“It’s hard to have the patience that you need, but the payoff will be worth it. I absolutely believe that. I think we’re getting close, and I’m excited about it.”

Glass often gets a first-hand view in assessing many of the organization’s top prospects since he lives just minutes away from its Class AA affiliate in Northwest Arkansas.

“What’s fun is you go to the games down here,” he said, “and see all of the scouts (from other clubs) sitting behind home plate with their radar guns. It’s a sign that you do have some talent when you begin to attract the attention of other teams.

“There are no guarantees, but Dayton and J.J. (Picollo, who oversees the scouting and player-development departments) have enough numbers coming through the system now some percentage of them are going to succeed.

“We know there are no sure things. And some of them won’t wind up being as good as you thought they were going to be. But others will surprise you. What you need are big numbers coming through so the percentage who do succeed get you where you want to go.”

Glass believes the Royals have those numbers in the pipeline and are poised to succeed in coming years. Why would he walk away, he asks, when things finally appear to be falling into place?

“Let’s just keep building on all of this and make it work,” he said. “I am excited, and I really think we’ve done it the right way – as painful as it’s been. It’s hard to have the patience to see it through, but we’re almost there.”

Oh man...

“It’s hard to have the patience that you need, but the payoff will be worth it. I absolutely believe that. I think we’re getting close, and I’m excited about it.”

Bill "Spaceman" Lee is awesome. Back in professional baseball at 63 years young...as a PLAYER! Just signed with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am league, first start is Sept 5th.

Here is a guy that truely loves the game. Hurt his throwing arm in one of those classic Sox/Yanks brawls in the 70s and never was the same after that, although he pitched for several more years with Boston and Montreal, and to this day still pitches over 200 innings per year in over-40 men's leagues in New England and Atlantic Canada. And still as quotable as ever!

If you've never seen the documentary about his barnstorming trip through Cuba from a few years ago, it is worth watching for a baseball fan. It is called "Spaceman: A Baseball Odessy", really good if you're a baseball fan. Includes Luis Tiant's first trip back to his native land if I recall. http://www.spacemanincuba.com/

Loved it. If you were to grade a bullsh*tter on a 1 to 10 scale I would put him at an 11. Bill Lee is freaking hilarious.

Try to not beat a dead horse & haven't too much -- but, the latest MLB-designer injury

San Diego's Tony Grwynn, out for the year after fracturing a bone in his hand
incurred, while swinging the bat

this rivals Jose Guillen's torn ACL incurred last year while putting on his hitting pads

seems that Gwynn fractured the "hamate" bone in his hand -- again, another part of the anatomy unique only to MLB players -- you know hamate strains/sprains/hurties are on the way now...

they get the best of everything, are treated like kings -- and they have the bodies of china dolls -- one of our catchers now has a "leg infection" -- how the heck do you get a leg infection when you never even play? These guys are monitored for safety 24/7

going by the replay, how anyone could come come away with a "concussion" and "sore ribs" after what was little more than a pushing & shouting match last week between Cincinnati & St. Louis, is hard to comprehend --

my gosh these guys are crybabies...ARod for instance, with his "low-grade calf strain"

at least they don't care though -- they know they hold themselves up as out-of-shape prima donnas

wish I had ESPN Classic -- they're showing the Pirates tonite when they were the Pirates (1979 Series)

Go Sox -- we need to go 27-12 or so down the stretch to have a shot

The GM Hendry needs to follow him out the door for tying up a ridiculous amount of money on Zambrano, Fukudome, Soriano.

take a tumble, hello DL -- Ron Mahay, broken down to bits fielding a ground ball & slipping -- now he joins Joe "Iron Man McGinnity II" Neshek on the vacation list formerly known as the disabled list

on the better side, Awesome stuff going on between Albert Puljos & Joey Votto -- can't remember when A player, much less 2, have had this realistic a shot at the Triple Crown -- even Miguel Cabrera would have a shot in the AL too, if it weren't for Josh Hamilton & Bautista being way ahead -- that St.L-Cincy Laybah Day series should be a bahn-burnah

Oy vey! It just keeps getting better and better...Lester scratched from his start tonight so he can cover for DiceK on Friday who has been scratched due to bad back. So now it's Wakefield vs. Felix the Cat tonight, eek. Oh well, at least Beckett finally got a W today.

I watched that video and I didn't see any taunting.

Not even after the very first incident, when the ump put his hands on his hips like Howard, and stared him down?

Howard was giving him grief. The umpire didn't say anything. That's fine, you see it differently, but Howard deserved to get tossed for his antics.

who the EF is Scott Barry? a AAA umpire filling in for another ump on vacation? at any rate, it didn't look like a swing to me, but Howard really lost his cool
