cool series coming up, Cincinnati-St. Louis --

Among all the excitement, didn't even notice, MN-Chicago this week -- Morneau may be back for their next home series -- huge -- fun ones to see what happens --
I wish the Twins would use less middle relievers & just let one guy be the setup person -- every game they use at least four pitchers, usually more -- Crain, Mijares, Guerrer, Rauch, 1 or 2 others -- they all pich 1/3 or 2/3 every time out, w/completely inconsistent results every time out -- hey the ballclub's going good, that's what counts -- Go TC -- hang the Pale Hose out to dry

well we're getting killed -- it's not anything that new -- Hopefully we're on a roll next time -- NY is good (Yankees suck)

Big props to Jacoby, he dove for that catch Fri. night & came away not shaken up -- I think that will jump-start his hitting now -- knowing he doesn't have to worry about his ribs
Pedroia & Varitek due back this month -- remember that Sox fans -- also, waiting in the wings, Mike Cameron & -- Carlos Delgado?????

Too many injuries for any team to survive. Your heart and soul are out, but your still right there. Lots of games left head to head to give up, thats for certain
Stephen, thanks for the "welcome back". I had an amazing, and truly interesting few months abroard while on this detail.
Still no place like the USA! Takes a little time out of the country to truly appreciate it. Even with all that is wrong at this present time.

Looks like it is time for the injury-riddled Red Sox to concede the division (yeah, that hurts) and put all eyes on the wildcard, and even that is seeming more and more like a stretch...we shall see...

Jerry lives in SF -- cool looking tribute they had ("concert before the game"???)
& they pulled it out in 11 innings
boy, 15 years ago -- time flies

Go Sox -- if the pitching comes through we have every chance of catching NY -- I mean Bard slammed the do' SHUT IN JO FACE yesterday -- 97-99 mph heaters -- but the runs will be there, it's how the hurling holds up

Rangers - Yankees tonight, should be right at 100 degrees for the first pitch. This is where it will get interesting for the Rangers.

....

Yeah, it was quite the scene last night, a cover band played "Shakedown St." & "Touch Of Grey" on top of the Cubs dugout during BP, there was a check presentation to the REX Foundation with Jerry's daughter Annabelle accepting, tributes from Bill Walton & Mickey Hart. The Giants mascot wore a tie-dyed Giants t-shirt Weir, Lesh & Jeff Pehrson sang the national anthem (pretty decently), video board tributes with Dead video, interview w/ Jerry & other cool things during the game, Dead music between innings. During the 7th inning strech, Walton, Hart & Bill Kreutzmann led a kazoo rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" Plus those of us with special tickets got a very cool Jerry bobblehead I have pictures that I'll post later.

Now for more important things
White Sox vs Twins, big series starting tonight in Chicago, the first of 6 games in 10 days that'll go a long way to determining the AL Central
GO WHITE SOX!!!

THIS JUST IN:

Pirates Mathematically Eliminated From Major League Baseball
August 10, 2010 | ISSUE 46•31

PITTSBURGH—After losing their fifth straight game Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates were mathematically eliminated from Major League Baseball, having fallen to a 36-69 record that officially disqualified the team from ever playing the sport again. "Eventually it comes to a point where there just aren't enough future games to turn things around for a baseball team," manager John Russell said following a 4-0 loss to the Reds that ended the Pirates franchise. "I had high hopes that we would go deeper into our regular seasons, but truthfully, we've been playing so lousy for the last 18 years that even if we got to our 106th game we wouldn't have been able to contend." In response to the Pirates' getting knocked out of professional baseball forever, Pittsburgh fans said that they were frankly relieved.

opposing thoughts on the White Sox-Twins series:

Seth Stohs, Twins Centric:
"To say that these games mean nothing would also be underplaying their significance. Think about this: Since 2002, the team that won the season series between these two teams ended the season with the better record. If we believe that the Tigers are all but eliminated (which is probably an assumption we shouldn't make quite yet), the team with the better record between the White Sox and Twins should be the division winner."

Jon Greenberg, ESPN Chicago:
"Given how tight the Sox and Twins are, and always seem to be, any considerable advantage obtained in the next week could have a major impact on the teams' fortunes this fall. Good thing the Sox are coming home for the first leg, where they're 18-2 over their last three homestands. After four days in Baltimore, I have a feeling the South Side is going to feel pretty inviting."

GO WHITE SOX!!!

Hopefully Detroit can win at least their next two -- a split w/NY wasn't good enough, now the Sox need help from the teams playing TB and NY
should be a fun one in Chitown -- hard to tell what will happen this series but I definitely think the Twins will repeat as div champs -- but this series will tell a lot -- long-time Twins fan but at the end of the day
Go BoSox

hey thanks for that info on last night's Jerry game MundeleinHoward

Rangers beat the Yankees on a bases loaded single off Rivera in the bottom of the 10th. This stuff is kind of exciting.

Hellickson licked 'em w/a helluva game

what about that great duel between Jiminez & Pelfrey too

& in all 3 cases, hooked in the 7th inning

seeing "complete games" go obsolete as a pitchers statistic doesn't sit well -- it's completely done by rote & pre-set pitch counts -- it's a trend that's hurt the game -- Don Zimmer observed the same thing in his book -- in so many words, pitchers today are not trained to be in shape to go a full nine innings, but just to hold the fort until the 5th or 6th, then blame the others who follow...

in between the lines though, the competition is there & the pennant races & teams are still fun to follow
Go Sox -- it has to be done on our own, TB & NY won't lose many either -- we'll catch up -- Pedey possibly back after this weekend

Twins one up -- it's weird seeing 'em that high-up on the team payroll list -- but it goes back to what SpyNet said before -- they've put themselves into a good position & now the huge salaries, while inconsistent w/their past philosophies, have become affordable -- they did their homework & their new park has proven to be a hit -- if they can be three ahead by the time they get back home, Morneau says he's fine & ready to play -- it'll all be fun to watch

Go Sox

Cardinals sweep the Reds..............

Now we need the White Sox to wake up and beat the Twinkies - no excuse for losing 3 of 4 to Baltimore.

Looking likely, 6-0 6th inning -- over it is not though

Sox will gain a full game both on TB and NY (4-1 TX) -- go Sawx

Except that the ONLY game the O's have lost since Showalter took over was to the White Sox, but, you're right, no excuses

AL central tied again, 7 head to head games left, 48 games total GO WHITE SOX!!!

They won't be able to do that tonight.

Damn, I got that right and when I posted it, the Rangers were up 6-1. They folded like the Cowboys in a playoff game.

Off Cliff Lee no less.. Go figure.

what have they put in the water down in Baltimore -- a complete-game 2-hitter last night making it 8 of 9 under Showalter -- must make his predecesor feel entirely adequate

Dallas Braden, who pitched a perfect game this season, went nine also -- there are a lot of hurlers around who pitch way above what their numbers show -- if Zack Greinke or Felix Hernandez were with better teams they'd be a cinch for 20 wins, year in year out -- Greinke & Clay Buchholz had nearly indentical numbers last night -- Buchholz got his 13th win, the reigning Cy Young winner, nadazerozippo

btw did anyone read the SI cover story on Stan Musial -- good article -- 90 & still active in the St. Louis area --

go Sox -- we have to invade Texas on a 4-game win streak & show them AL East baseball is a cut above the rest -- you'll see Doug! -- always the best
