Rangers beat the Angels 2-1 to go up nine games in the AL West. Sweet.

Ray's 2-Yankee's 1
Kind of boring game,but a w is a w. Glad A Rod didn't get # 600 in our house.
Jeter seems to be having a tough time with the Ray's. REALLY looking forward to the playoff's.

Angels take 2 of 3 from the Rangers in Anahiem, but the Ranger's lead is still like 8.5 games. The next 2 weeks will tell a big part of the story. This is whenm they usually colllapse.

Kerry effin Wood?

Really?

There was very little downside to NY doing this. All they give up is either $500,000 or a player to be named later. And Cleveland picked up 2/3 of Woods' remaining contract.

Similar with Berkman and they almost got Kearns for free. I would have been happy had the Tigers made these moves.

It sucks so bad the toilet bowl this place has become (the WP forum)

Teams made a lot of moves, just wait though -- we still have Pedey & Ellsbury coming back, & IMO they have to play Lowell and Tek periodically when they're ready -- these are four key players who have to be rotated in there regularly so that other players don't get too tired (injured) -- we can still catch TB & NY -- we're poised to do it -- foreseeing a sweep of the Tribe

same thing w/the Twins, they cleaned up on the weak sisters, now it's reality check time against TB -- if Morneau & Mauer are healthy down the stretch, they'll repeat as div. champs

Many interesting races, both Fla. and NYMets, and LA and Colorado will make inroads this week (key divisional series') -- "lots of baseball left to play" as the saying goes

Not sure who your beef is with (and don't care) but can I respecfully ask you to leave the baseball thread alone so we can dicuss the sport we love?

Thanks.

A few threads never mess with anyone and should be respected by all, kind of like field hospitals in a war. Sports threads and memorial threads should be off limits.

Nice to see a fun thread that is not about politics.

The Dodgers will be in the Series and be mauled by the Yankees.
You mean the Ray's?

Sounds like Youkilis really did some damage when he jammed his thumb...torn adductor muscle and the head of one of the muscles ruptured. Might need surgery. DL. Unfreakinbelievable.

Nice return for Lowell in talking Youk's place...Theo looks pretty smahhht now for not moving him (well, maybe not considering the yanks were supposedly the only team interested). Ellsbury comes back tomorrow, but losing Youk really sucks.

Yanks scuffling a bit all of a sudden, and have dropped to second. Sox only 5.5 back with 4 games head-to-head this weekend and 10 (I think) head-to-head still to play overall. This could still get interesting...

Youk's drive and fire can't be replaced. In that regard, Lowell isn't the same player. I hope Lowell does well. He has always seemed like a class guy who has had quite a bit od adversity in his career.

The guy is far from washed up IMO -- if Ellsbury & Pedroia can play up to snuff when they come back, that could Maybe make up for Youk's absence -- it is a biggie though --
both Mikey & Tek will be playing some down the stretch, by the look of things -- ain't like it never worked out good that way befohe (hehe) -- if they're healthy & locked in too, TB & NY are within reach -- which they are anyway -- but it's all Sawx -- I love the BoSox

I believe he has the date incorrect. It should read Monday, the 9th.

Jerry Garcia Night Already A Big Success

DARREN ROVELL, SPORTSBIZ, SPORTS, CNBC, CNBC.COM, BLOG, SPORTS BUSINESS

For the first couple years of the San Francisco Giants new ballpark, games sold out routinely. The Giants still fill AT&T Park to 89 percent capacity, but in a drive to pull in a greater crowd, they’ve started to gain momentum by hosting special nights that generate buzz unlike any other Major League team has.

Last year, they sold 10,000 seats by hosting Filipino Heritage Night, which included an appearance by Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao and a bobblehead of his likeness.

This year, it’s Jerry Garcia Tribute Night, which will take place this upcoming Monday, the 15th anniversary of the guitarist’s death.

Faham Zakariaei, the special events manager for the Giants, said that by game time, he expects to attribute 12,000 seats to the Garcia promotion.

All living members of the Grateful Dead will be involved in the day.

The National Anthem will be sung by Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Jeff Pehrson, while the seventh inning stretch will be played by Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. As an added bonus, NBA Hall of Famer and notorious “Deadhead” Bill Walton will be in attendance.

Grateful Dead fans paid in between $20 and $50 to sit in a special section of the ballpark. The first 9,000 who bought tickets to the promotion got a Garcia bobblehead, sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s, which of course makes the ice cream flavor Cherry Garcia.

Since the Giants have now run out, they are now giving away a hat with a Giants & Grateful Dead logo on it for those that buy tickets to the game. The team’s retail department is selling a Jerry Garcia Giants shirt, produced by Nike , for $25. Between the shirt and the hat, which is also being sold separately, they’ve sold 6,000 pieces.

Those who really wanted an experience could pay $175 to meet the members of the Grateful Dead, hear a cover band, meet members of the Garcia family and take part in all-you-can-eat and drink stations. Zakariaei said those 400 tickets sold out. “I’d love to squeeze more people in there, but I can’t,” he said, reluctantly.

Zakariaei said the key to success with promotions like this is authenticity. Garcia obviously came from the Bay Area and was a Giants fan.

Some proceeds of the tickets — which have already topped $40,000 — are going to the Rex Foundation, the Grateful Dead’s charity.

Thank goodness! Nolan Ryan is just what this team needs. Rangers are 3-3 on this road trip and still have an 8 game lea in the AL West. A couple of more weeks of this and I might be convinced. They play Doston and the Yankees at home next week. We'll see.
