I saw that on Mike and Mike as well. I think it's a bad idea. If the small market teams need larger gate revenue maybe not having the Indians vs Royals or Pirates vs Reds 19 teams a year would be a step in the right direction.

I won't make too much noise. I'm too busy trying to figure out how a team can spend $1.6 billion in payroll over 10 years and only have World Series Title to show for it...

Baseball is kinda like Golf and Nascar. It allows me to get a nap in and maybe I can wake up in the 9th inning, the final 18th hole, or 3 laps to go and see the end of the race. All of them make for a grate way for me to get a little shut eye, they easily put me to sleep .

I heard on Mike and Mike today that MLB is considering allowing teams to 'float' in and out of their divisions. Teams that think they could compete in another division may be able to switch for a season, teams that are rebuilding..i.e. Indians may switch to the Al East to get 18 home games with Yanks and Red Sox and pull some big crowds.
I like the idea. MLB shaking it up.

MLB in discussions over 'floating realignment'
Sporting News staff reports
Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2010 - 8:57 a.m. ET

Major League Baseball teams would be able to pick their division and league annually under a plan being floated by a committee charged with examining the game.

SI.com's Tom Verducci reports there is strong support among the 14-member panel of mainly executives and managers for the idea of "floating realignment." It is seen as a way to increase competitive balance. Verducci adds, however, that the concept is merely in the talking stages and lacks a structure. Moreover, the committee's recommendations are non-binding.

Under the concept, teams would be able to decide where they'd want to play in a given season based on geography, payroll and willingness to contend. SI.com, citing an unnamed source who is familiar with the discussions, notes that a team couldn't move into a division more than two time zones beyond its home city say, the Rays or Orioles trying to join the NL West.

The Rays, though, could move out of the AL East and into the AL Central, where they conceivably would have a better shot at making the playoffs.

Floating realignment also could change the number of teams in a division or league in a given season. It also would affect scheduling of interleague games.

"This is all about any ideas that help make the game better," says Braves president John Schuerholz, a committee co-chairman.

This shows there is no chance for a salary cap, and the league is obviously giving up any chance of it ever being part of the Barginning Agreement.
I wouldn't imagine being able to change divisions that go through 2 time zones, and what do you do about the DH?
I understand the economical reasoning behind the idea, I'm just not feeling it is good for the game overall.
The main reason I don't like it is, it is not forcing the small market teams to feel they don't have to spend more money to compete in order to fill their stadiums. Some teams are pocketing too much money instead of putting it back in the teams. Too me, that is more obscene than a team spending most of the money they make to win. Leaving it up to the big fish to fill their stadiums for them without having to field the best team goes against the whole competitive nature of any sport. What about the weaker teams who has a powerhouse move into their division to make their path to the playoffs easier. Do all the divisions have to keep a certain number of teams?
So many questions, and I think I only scratched the surface

I'd like to see the DH repealed regardless of what else they do. I think it's bad for the game. Sure, it gives some sluggers an extended career, but it eliminates a lot of late game strategizing, and AL pitchers are more prones to throwing bean balls since they have no fear of retribution. In short, DH is BS.

I'd like to hear more about the changing divisions idea, it could work.

However, I think ultimately what baseball really needs, short term anyway, is contraction. Eliminate a couple of teams from each league and it lessens the disparity between top and bottom, and allows some of that much needed pitching to be spread around too.

Plus, these teams aren't usually much of a road draw either, so remaining teams should see a bump at the gate.

Singing Guerrero from the Angels was a steal at the price!

But in the end I expect the rangers to play like always have for nearly a hundred years now, which obviously goes back way before they were in Texas.
