The DH should be repealed. Beckett should have to get in there and hit. Now one of his teammates will have to take the medicine for him.

The DH ruined AL baseball.....There was something really different about the American League before that rule. The way they played the game was so different than the NL. They simply took that away to try to make it nothing but a power game. I like that the pitcher bats. I like when the unexpected pitcher hits a ball into the gap...or hit some dead duck HR that barely clears the fence...yeah they strike out a lot...so that's part of the game

All good points. In addition, I feel that every player in the lineup should have to play a defensive position. Half the game is on the defensive side, so it doesn't make sense to exempt one player.

It also requires two sets of rules during the World Series because the DH rule follows which park they play in....I could care less about the all star game...but that get affected too...and they need to change that the All Star game gives the winning league home field advantage. That should be rotated every year....Why should some player who might help his league win the All star game but may not even play in the world series be the person to determine which league get home field advantage. They also need to get rid of the first round of playoffs and make the payoff series best of 5. Soon we'll be playing the world series in December in Colorado in 5 feet of snow. The World Series need to end before the last week of October. They also need to bring back the once a month Sunday Double Header. That would shorten the season by about 2 weeks and give the fans a treat 2 for 1 games

[Edited on 5/9/2010 by goldtop]

FWIW, MLB has decided to use the DH in the All Star Game mo matter where it is played.

I haven't watched an All star game for many years, It's such a waste of time....As is the NFL Pro Bowl Game. At one time the MLB All Star game was fun but it's just gotten to be....I don't know....lame....The NFL Pro Bowl has always been lame

I agree that the all star game should not determine WS home field advantage. But why should it be rotated every year between AL and NL.

What's wrong with theteam with the best record having home field advantage? That's why you play 162 games. The best record should count for WS home field advantage, IMO. I see no reason why it shouldn't...

Shoot -- just personal pap that means nothing -- meant to post it May 5 -- 85 years to the day when Ty Cobb proved again his amazing baseball ability -- scoffing at the popularity of the long ball that had overshadowed the more technical aspects of the game, Cobb told a group of disbelieving reporters before a May 5 doubleheader, "what's so hard about hitting home runs -- watch this."

He then went out and had the best day of his career as the 38 year old Tigers player-manager hit three home runs, just barely missed two others, had a double, and overall backed up his pre-game claim to the astounded scribes (this is all according to various biographies) -- that to me is the greatest performance ever in baseball

carry on, & go Sox

Royals have a new skipper. I don't know much about Ned Yost.

The owner should be fired if anything.. If that were possible.

Pretty sad.

Agreed, won't make a bit of difference -- they usually don't anyway but definitely not w/the non-Royales -- Geo. Brett, John Mayberry, Paul Splittorf, Dennis Leonard, Willie Wilson etc etc -- yes what has happened
BoSox, BoSox, BoSawx...

Boston is starting a 3 game series w/Detroit. Their only chance to take a game from the Tigers will be when Detroit puts Scherzer on the mound tonight. Other than him the Tigers rotation is red hot.

I would say ..."How about those Padres"?....But I predict that they'll be 50-50 after 100 games and won't win 75 by season's end...

What do you do about the ballplayer that demands to be traded in mid-stream because the team is losing? That's what Roy Oswalt is doing, despite the no-trade clause in his contract.

Oswalt is 2-6 with a 2.66 and is frustrated by the lack of run support and the Astros lackluster play. He wants out. I'd be tempted to sit him down until something can be worked out, due to a lack of loyalty to his teammates. Or send him to Triple-A and let him complain to the papers from Round Rock. What a pro.

I dont know man. He is an ACE pitcher, and is on the other side of his prime. His window of opportunity to be on a Championship caliber team is closing.
This could be a good thing if they can get some prime prospects for him.
Unfortunately for both he and the team, I dont see the Yanks or Sox getting involved in this. That would keep the "price" down I would think.

He has backed off some of his comments and the request for a trade. Frustration might have got the best of him originally.

Nice back-to-back wins in Tampa (aka the new AL East House of Horrors) for the Sawx. Boston starters have given up just 1 run in their last 26 innings. Papi and Youk are on fieyah. Still 6.5 games out (just 1.5 games back of Yanks) but coming on strong.

It was good to see Austin Jackson back in the Tigers line-up after that hard hit to the head he took last weekend.
