Nobody has anything to say about this near disaster and the fact that in spite of every extreme regulation he was still able to smuggle these dangerous items on a plane? Not to mention that he was already known to U.S. security as a potential threat and still got a visa to enter the U.S. We have definitely returned to the pre-9/11 days and I fear a disaster is coming soon. The worst thing is that they immediately implemented absurd over regulation which will do nothing to stop anything. People are now not allowed to access their bags or go to the bathroom for the final hour of an international flight. How would that stop him from detonating before the final hour? And why can't they keep people like this off of planes and out of the country? ____________________

The same day this loser tried to blow up the plane I got a can of mixed nuts out of our freezer and put them in a bowl on the kitchen counter. Then I went outside for a walk. A few minutes after I got back my wife said, "Have your nuts thawed yet?". I said, "Oh yes, it wasn't that cold out."
Coincidence? I think not. |

Little old men on walkers too. True story....I was flying out of Huntsville airport and got the full patdown and run through the metal detector but while Dad and I were heading to the gate Johnny called and told me I'd forgotten my camera. I went flying down the stairs, past security and out the door to get my camera. When I got back and was ready to go through the whole process again, including having my camera checked, the agent just waved me on through. First of all I was glad to avoid the check for the dreaded 'underwire' and then I was a little concerned that I could have had anything in that camera bag and they let me through.
At the other end of the flight and when getting ready to return home from the Oklahoma City airport, there were armed guards, two metal detectors and three carry on checks plus they went through all of our luggage....and I packed like it was a clown car! I had to fight them just to keep that tiny little screwdriver that was in my glasses repair kit and yet, they let me through with a ballpoint pen and anyone who's ever seen James Bond knows how lethal one of those can be in the wrong hands. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!

It just seems to me they are ignoring the obvious and just doing these things to make it look like they are working at it. I want to know why this guy was on a terrorist watch list and it did not prevent the State Department from giving him a visa to enter the United States. ____________________

Whats to say that hasnt been said long before? We all know that security is a joke HERE, let alone abroad. One of my hiking magazines did a story on the weak Canadian border and how easy it was for someone to come in completely undetected. Hell, some 'manned checkpoints' expect you to be on the honor system and let them know you came through when they arent there.

Nope. We never left. Our security has not improved at all. I seem to recall myself biatching about this years ago...strange.

It wouldnt stop anyone. We should be asking why the Bush administration never spent all the money on chemical "sniffers" that would have caught this guy. Past that, if he was on a watch list, why did they issue him a visa? ____________________ Missing- 245 spines. I saw a little old lady, probaly 80 years old get patted down and wanded on Christmas Eve at DFW while her 60 something year old daughter watched. I would have liked to have had my camera ready for that one. ____________________ If we practice and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, soon the whole world will be blind and toothless. -Mahatma Gandhi.

Once again we are totally reactionary instead of being proactive. Why bother with a list, if you let the people on the friggin’ plane that shouldn’t be? According to Napoletano everything happened as it should have. Yeah right. Thank God the people on that plane were vigilant. The passengers and the crew were probably the only ones who took the correct course of action. If there is one good thing that came from 9/11, it’s that the public will not take any more **** from these maniacs trying to blow up planes. It now seems the public and the crews are the ones who thwart many of these attempted attacks.
Speaking of this list, they say that the list has something like half a million names on it and different people are coded differently. Can’t they use some sort of scientific query system to check these names? We use a system at work called 1010 data which helps to query and analyze huge amounts of data, why can’t the TSA or Homeland Security use something similar to sort through all of these names?
Can’t wait to fly to Mobile, AL this weekend for work. Should be fun at the security line!!

I travel all over the world for business and the "tightest" security I've ever seen was in Burlington, VT after a weekend with my high school buddies. I had a baseball hat, a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, my blackberry and a small travel kit. I was interrogated over my hair conditioner. Good job, guys. Keepin' the skies safe...
Meanwhile I've traveled far and wide with a cork-screw in my briefcase. I don't consider it a weapon, but shouldn't they under their "security" rules? Maybe they're just sympathetic to the pain of having a bottle of wine and no way to open it... ____________________ This one goes to eleven... |

Unfortunately this is true, but I feel....as it should be.
I can only surmise that this airport security thing is harder than it seems.
In Jax, they had one of those chemical sniffer things, not 100% sure what they were sniffing for, but it blew puffs of air all over you, then tested it....but as far as I know, they stopped using it....probably too much whining from the public or too costly or unreliable...? ____________________ You want to talk to me

One more thought....our short attention span public doesn't care.
Unfortunately I feel it is going to take another actual disaster for people to wake up.
I'd be willing to bet that on average, MOST people are not even aware of this thing that just happened on that Detroit flight. ____________________ You want to talk to me

This just got me thinking....since the shoe bomber, we have to take off our shoes at the airport. Does this mean I will now have to drop my pants at security? I certainly hope so!! |
