Some of the singers from post-grunge bands like Candlebox and Collective Soul made me cringe for sure.

Big thumbs up to the mention of Michael MacDonald. His sobby emoting always rubbed me wrong.

I wouldn't go as far as saying they make me want to vomit; but I don't enjoy hearing Yoko, Donna Jean Godchaux-for the most part she was much better in the studio and with JGB than the dead-, JB of WSP, Geddy Lee, and Marcus King.

Interesting thread. Agree with some of the posts, not all. When I first saw the title I immediately thought Geddy Lee. That's why I dislike Rush so much. Regarding Panic, I also like their music (have seen them live several times) but after a little bit I have had enough of Bell. They have a HUGE following and I don't know how the die hards can take it.

I don't see White Lion as that polarizing. I really like White Lion. Met Mike Tramp at a book signing before he opened for Skynyrd many moons ago. Nice guy. They were all about the late 80s hair bands!

And not to sound like a middle aged woman but Michael Bolton's voice doesn't bother me.

yeah I think Bolton has a fantastic voice and I'm a metalhead/rock guy . when he toned it down a bit back in the day he sounded a lot like paul from kiss

Never thought about Bolton kind of sounding like somebody such as Paul Stanley but I guess I can hear it in a handful of Kiss ballads. And I guess you could compare it to the 80s hair bands that put out those power ballads that were quite popular.

Hey, they reached the female crowd.

Not sure I should key on the vocalist(s), but this song makes me want to destroy speakers.

Some of the people listed here should never have placed their mouths anywhere near a mic, others fit what their bands were selling but would have been best suited for never having released solo efforts and some are so bad it doesn't seem to matter with whom they share the stage.....

Something (or not) for everyone....

That copycat loser frontman in Greta Van Fleet, like seriously awful, it actually makes me angry

Obviously to each their own, but some names shocked me:

Freddie Mercury?!?
Jackson Browne?
Marcus King?
Mike Mattison? (kinda get that one actually lol)
Ann Wilson?

Yea, that guy flat out can't sing. I dont know what you call it. As far as the rest of this list, if some of the greatest rock singers bother you, then enjoy whatever it is you listen to.

I honestly can't watch Mick Jagger or Robert Plant sing. It permanently gives me some kind of disliking for them, for some reason. Both great voices, but the theatrics are just awful.

Somewhere around there's a vid of him sitting in w/CSNY singing (I think, unsure) Wooden Ships -- thought it was good --
like the kitschy/schmaltzy stuff from the 60s -- that Treat Her Right vid is a howl alright -- hilarious! & fully agreed, what moves, too cool w/the women in audience going crazy
A powerful voice, & didn't he guest on a Nine Inch Nails record one time.....

I'm pretty backwards, so I spent the 1980s listening to 1970s music, though I did get into metal and prog from that time. I was pretty against the popular music, college rock, alt rock, though I liked some punk and guitarry stuff.

Since then, I have actually learned to love a lot of the 1980s music I scorned at the time. I can appreciate Prince and enjoy INXS, for example.

However, the voices of Robert Smith (The Cure) and Morrissey (The Smiths) still bug me. Some Cyndi Lauper and Gwen Stefani (No Doubt) really irritates me. Solo music by Sting can hit me wrong.

Perversely, I always got a kick out of Gordon Gano from the Violent Femmes. You could tell that at least he knew he had a terrible voice!!!!
