Much like when Bill Clinton did some bombing to distract from the Lewinsky testimony.

I've heard people say this is a distraction. The chemical weapon attack and Trump's initial comments on it were before the warrants were delivered to Cohen. There are so many controversies with this President that somebody could say anything and everything is meant to be a distraction. I even heard somebody wonder if Macron's intent was to distract from something he is dealing with in France. This is a tired argument; Keeping military action in one's back pocket to use at just the right time to win favor and change headlines. I don't see it that way.

I for one don't give a "rip" about Syria and never have.

Secretary Mattis, what vital American interest was defended Friday night?

Refreshing candor. Same here. It is extremely tragic and reprehensible, but this particular situation is nothing but WW3 bait.

The Democrats are hitting the Sunday Morning News 9opinion) shows screaming about President Trump's "illegal war" in Syria and demanding he come before Congress for "their approval".

Hypocrites.

You are right Mule. Only a fool would go on a public forum screaming about Trump and Syria. What are the Dems going to do next? Start a thread about it and meltdown? Thank God you are not like that!

Syria has been a hellhole of suffering and death for seven years. People that now suddenly are grasping at some notion of moral political tribal superiority because they somehow rationalized that there are better ways for people to die than in a chemical attack are not nearly as righteous as they think they are. The notion that many of those same folks are actually trying to claim that they gave a rip about Syria before Friday night is the real comedy, though.

Assad gassed 20,000 people in the early 1980's, there was no moral outcry then, so WHY NOW?

Second question, we believe in the sovereignty of OUR nation, but not the sovereignty of other nations. Why not? Don't they have the same rights we had, to have a group of pissed off people start their own revolution and do it till they succeed?

They do not need our help, and Assad would probably have been fine with letting Isis have their caliphate in the limited areas that they had it in. If he needed back up or help eradicating them, Russia would surely lend a hand. So why are we there helping out?

Forces of good can not always prevent or remove forces of evil around the world. And to the extent the US and our allies want to try and minimize or diminish such evil we really need to be honest about what we think we can accomplish and what will come of it.

Assad is staying in power. That sucks, but in realistic terms there is no better alternative the US can undertake to change that. Will he use chemical weapons on his opponents catching innocence again? Possible. Assuming his military or those aligned with his government and military where behind this latest chemical weapon use, it is just the latest example of him doing this. I'm not sure why we think it will be the last. He has not been deterred prior. Hopefully he will never do it again. But as questioned, is it all that much different to bomb, shoot, starve or otherwise victimize the people of Syria who are caught in up in the collateral damage? Marginally I suppose, not suffering from the effects of chemical and biological weapon agents is one thing...unless we are talking about people with limbs blown off or maimed by explosions of conventional nature. The means of war is nasty business. Once it is started the only thing that can be done is get the fighting over as soon as possible. Assad's side is going to win. The sooner he does the fewer chemical weapons attacks I suspect we will see. That is the unfortunate truth in a world that we can't shake our magic wand and make everything in our image or fix all that ails poor and oppressed people and nations.

I suspect you agree with him? He's right, it is total hypocrisy. Democrats suck. Republicans suck.
