Ivanka Trump’s Chinese-Produced Clothing Exempt From New Tariffs
by Colin Kalmbacher | 4:31 pm, April 7th, 2018

Ivanka Trump‘s clothing manufacturing company will be exempt from new proposed tariffs against China.
President Donald Trump announced the first round of tariffs against Chinese steel and aluminum industries on March 1. In response, China announced its first round of tariffs against 120 American products–including many consumer products–at the beginning of April. Each round of tariffs was worth an estimated $50 billion.
Trump eventually responded in turn–by announcing widespread tariffs against various Chinese industries. One Chinese industry that is notably not subject to those new U.S. tariffs, however, is the clothing manufacturing industry. According to a Tuesday report in the Washington Post:
In compiling the list, U.S. officials used algorithms to identify products that benefited from China’s state-directed campaign of technology acquisition while eliminating those whose inclusion would disrupt the U.S. economy. The list was drafted to achieve “the lowest consumer impact,” according to Robert E. Lighthizer, the U.S. trade representative. So, clothing and toys were excluded.
Many of the products branded by Ivanka Trump’s fashion and clothing line are manufactured in China. And China recently approved three new trademarks for Ivanka Trump’s brand there–on the same day she dined with Chinese President Xi Jinping in her official capacity as White House advisor.
Exempting clothing from the new round of U.S. tariffs therefore stands to immensely benefit the value of Ivanka Trump’s personal brand. Meanwhile, domestic clothing manufacturers have cried foul.
In a statement reacting to the tariffs and Trump’s noteworthy exemption for Chinese-produced clothing, Rick Helfenbein, chief executive of industry group the American Apparel & Footwear Association said, “This would directly raise costs on domestic manufacturers and impact our ability to grow Made in USA.”
Law&Crime reached out to Ivanka Trump’s press office for comment, but no response was forthcoming at the time of publication.

What? You mean Donald Trump cares more about his personal interests more than American steel workers and coal mining West Virginians? It’s like he’s some kind of fast talking crooked businessman.

If this is true, then why would this surprise anyone. The presidency is nothing more than an extension of the Trump Family businesses. Certainly no conflict of interest for Trumpco / Office Of The President.

I for one would like to know why the steel beams from the World Trade Center attack on 9-11-01 was shipped to China. Who facilitated that? Since we are putting tariffs on steel, will or HAS that steel went to other countries never to be seen or examined by the US again? No forensics, heck we can't find it now, and we got tariffs on steel coming from China. A coincidence that benefits the axis of evil. No, I'm sure Trump did not even know the steel went there.

I also question why we sanction a country who funds our economy. And another co-incidence, on 9-11-01, on that day we were to make a BIG payment on the money China loans us, which we could not make, but in light of what happened that day they did not hold us in default.

So, what does this mean? We should not eff with China. I won't even get into Ezekiel Chapters 37 and 38 where China and Russia both go against us in the BIG WWIII nuclear war.

So you want all clothing from China to be subjected to tariffs?

Exactly! There are many other categories that are not subject to any proposed tariffs. This is a liberal stretch to smear the President.

Not really. One of the largest exports from China is clothing. If you are going to have tariffs, that is the type of import you would target. Trump said Americans would feels some pain. But not his daughter, or even Trump himself as he has a clothing line manufactured in China.

It doesn't seem right to put tariffs on some of the clothes and exempt others. Whatever the policy will be, it should be across the board and the same amount if there is a tariff. That is fair foreign trade policy.

So why has the clothing lines of Trumps' family been singled out when the others have not been mentioned.
Their lines are not purposely exempt from tariffs, all clothing from China is exempt. So why single out their clothing lines?
