Now here's a sport going into the toilet. No Junior, No Danica, No leadership, No fans. This sport needs a clue. The races are boring and there are no stars worth watching.

Interesting motorsports include Indycar and NHRA. Besides the fact that the racing is awesome, you can actually meet these drivers.

Popularity and attendance is taking hits.

The talent in the sport and the close competition is as good as it has ever been. But there lacks the star power that pulls people in. I think in whole the product on the track is actually very good. Some races aren't good, others are fantastic. It is just like any other sport in that regard, not everyone is going to be something to write home about.

I think access fans have is pretty amazing as well. We were on the track at Daytona an hour before the race! Imagine walking on the football field an hour before kickoff. While difficult to obtain, there are passes available to be in the pits and garages when the drivers and teams are working, or even during the race. And you can take yer coolr full of beer into the race!

But they aren't financially sustainable. I think we are seeing that take shape. Drivers getting 1 year contracts. Title sponsor Monster only committed for 2 years for much less than NASCAR had hoped to get. Even one of the sports most popular drivers, Danica, can't get anyone to sponsor her for Daytona or Indy. Costs for the teams are only getting more expensive, but it's getting harder for everyone in the sport to raise revenue.

I like it, but they are having a rough time. I've taken a car to the drag strip and had a Jeep on sand drags...it's cool, but I think that is really boring to watch on TV. I'd rather watch the guys tear down the engines in between runs then actually watch the runs. Dirt track sprint car racing is pretty cool, Indy car or Formula 1 never really interested me. My buddy is into Motocross, that is pretty cool for a bit. Something about NASCAR I like better. In fact, other than football it is the only sport I care to watch or follow.

Danica is going to be racing at Daytona after all! Yesterday she got a deal with Premium Motorsports, the old Tommy Baldwin team. Good for her. Now what is the over/under laps completed before she wrecks?

Yahoo dropped their NASCAR fantasy offering, just like they dropped their cfb bowl pick'em.

I will set up a league with nascar.com next week, with all the excitement here for the upcoming season I know we'll have alot of participants. I've already started arm twisting my friends to join. But remember something like 5 out of the 6 highest spots last year came from here.

I've never played in the official nascar leagues so I will have to get up to speed to help explain things to others. Hopefully we can get atleast a handful of people who want to do it. I will update.

See if this works.

You will have to log in or create an account with nascar.com. The league is called Fuel Fire That Which I Desire and password is truex.

5 of my friends from the yahoo league are going to play.

This will be totally different, I'm still learning the rules and how the driver selections will work. There are rules, how to play, and FAQ all listed there. They say they changed the scoring system from last year. I set this league up because yahoo is no longer offering it.

A couple of my friends signed up. Maybe try truex or Truex lower or uppercase.

Did the league name show up automatically or did you have to search for it? Fuel Fire That Which I Desire

I don’t have Allenwoods’ email address. Hope he plays.

Qualifying is tomorrow, you can pick a pole winner but have to do that before tomorrow about noon.

4 current members, 2 more should be in this morning for 6. No ABB forum members signed up yet. I did get signup info to Allan.

Pole pick locks today at 12:10. If you miss that pick you still have all week to get the rest of the picks made for the actual race next Sunday.

Contact me with any interest or questions. Last year ABB forum members beat all my friends and family, except for me of course , so there is some talent (or luck) out there that will make for a more competitive league. Sang? Hemp? DanB? Allan? Leafsfan? Fast43?

I did it last year just to beat DanB and Woods - don't think I'll have time this year..... going to take a long trip in September, so I have to play more golf in the summer.......

Racing looked pretty good today. Lots of runs from cars in the pack that could make moves and pass the leader.

New Camaro has a point in the middle of the front "grill" that doesn't mesh real well with rear "bumpers". Larson had a head of steam and bumped Jimmie which spun him out and wrecked some cars on the final Clash lap. That could be something to watch.

Ford's sucked in qualifying. Gibbs and Hendrick dominated. But Fords raced really well which is what counts.

5 men over the wall made a HUGE difference. I think the fast pit stop in the first round today was 16 seconds, where as last year the best stops were about 11 seconds. This is an area where teams can out think the others in how they put the 5 crew members over the wall to best and most efficient use.

A big thing from the last couple years was the competitive advantage Gibbs had with their impact guns, spending tens and tens of thousands of dollars on impact guns. Now I heard that NASCAR is issuing standardized ones, to try and keep costs down for the teams. I don't know, I kind of like it when the teams are allowed to figure out a better mousetrap. So much of the sport is standardized they've made it really difficult for smart people to try and get an edge.

Not sure how the new fantasy league is going to work out. The only selection we made for today was the pole, which I doubt just about anyone got right as Alex Bowman kicked qualifying ass in both rounds. But I was unable to see the other picks in the league. One of the best things about the yahoo league was seeing the drivers the other players used so you could see how the racing or wrecks effected the other people in the league.

But I guess it is the only fantasy game going? There are 6 members, no ABB forum members are in yet. Missing out on today cost you nothing, nobody got qualifying points. Hope some of you racing fans still sign up, the more competition the better, plus it will give me some reason to post in this thread to other people besides myself!

Where is Heineken515 these days?

OK, looks like we have DanB signed up and I am assuming "last of a kind" is Alan. I can't see user emails to confirm who is who like the yahoo league.

My user name is left hand monkey wrench. My friend Kevin is Chips, Steve is Howard Stern's Butt, Stephanie is Salsa, Tonya is Crowester and Reck is Wrecked 'Em.

I do not know who Hornet Racer 42 is, but welcome aboard. Let's go racing!!!

Anyone been watching? DanB must be paying some attention, he's chasing me for the lead in our fantasy league. Having spent more time with the new fantasy league I kind of like their format and scoring now.

Harvick and Stewart-Haas and Fords pretty much kicking ass except for the occasional Kyle Busch win.

All the aero these cars have now has proven to present a big learning curve for the Camaro guys.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's Kansas race.

Championship Racing today!

Looking at some odds, found it weird...

18 favored to win the race 9-4 (2.5:1), Larson 15-4 (3.75:1) and then Harvick 4-1 (4:1).

Championship odds Harvick 9-5 (1.8:1), Kyle 9-4 (2.25:1), Joey and Truex are each 3-1 (3:1)

The Championship driver doesn't have to win the race, just beat the other 3.

So I thought it was weird that Kyle would be a 2.5:1 favorite for the race, but Harvick is a 1.8:1 favorite to win the Championship. Feel like betting Harvick for the race and Kyle for the Championship. If one of those two things happen I'd make money.
