I saw Hidden Figures movie and thought it was excellent. Disappointed the lead did not get an acedemy award nomination. With every large media event becoming a platform for venting, there's even less reason to watch.

Just closed on a house yesterday and moving day is tomorrow. A whole new life starts in just a matter of hours. My girlfriend and her kids are joining me, so it will be back to being a day-to-day daddy again. I'm 55 and our youngest is three. Great times ahead!!

Congrats! 1st year in a house with my wife of 2 years and our 10 year old child (10lb Chihuahua). I like the way you put it, "A whole new life starts in just a matter of hours". Good luck and here's to many years ahead. I was hoping I might find a post today that wasn't about politics.

Congrats indeed alloak41, & continuing along (dfrnt subj,)
...what Isaiah Thomas is doing the season for the Celtics is unprecedented -- he's everything AI, Spud Webb, Muggsy Bogues & other diminutive guards wanted to be -- not even to mention Mr. Cousy, who I don't believe had the fourth-quarter magic Isaiah has had this year -- incredible stuff -- keep it going Isaiah -- & get back soon AB

Coach Julien did a great job -- the players have been underachieving for too long -- something had to be done I guess

down the tubes w/those 2 trades tho -- adding aging creaky 7-footers Bogut and Tiago? for 2 of their key up & coming players, Nerlens & Ilaysova?????

guess 6iz didn't trust the process for long -- Tiago isn't too bad, but still....w/this trade Phila conceding Embiid's knees too creaky & he'll never be able to play a full season -- they've had the most rotten luck in their draft picks

AB is back, let's go Celts, there's every reason to believe....

Guessing Magic will have the same experience in front office, as he did in his mercifully short coaching stint
He's inherited too much ineptitude, esp. last summer's mysterious Deng-Timofey deals that Laker fans knew right off were Busts -- yes those deals have nearly bankrupted even wealthy LAL -- on the floor, too

not looking as optimistic as I thought on Avery Bradley -- Achilles heel injuries are Toughies -- it won't be 100% for the rest of this year -- he's our player of tenure & it's gotta be killing him missing out....

Davis & DeMarcus tore it up last nite -- & NOPelis Got tore up

We're rested & as ready as can-be for the stretch run -- C's have played fantastic this season -- forget LeBron, Curry/KD, Westbrook etc. -- in Isaiah Thomas we have the best player on the planet

Yes it's all the **** & should be -- Theo Epstein, special assistant YOUK, Jon Lester, Koji Uehara & the world-champion Chicago Cubs -- in-town for a rare visit, in the only stadium older than theirs, etc etc

& it's secondary
along-about 9:30-10 trmw nite, most fans will be tuned into primary Boston-Chicago series
IF we're in-process of bouncing da Bulls during the late innings --
intermittent cheers unrelated to what's happening on the field, will erupt -- then bringing the house down if we win series w/Sox-Cubs still in-progress

I like our lineup right now -- Betts Benintendi Bogaerts at top w/M.Hrndz at 2nd til Dustin gets back -- Hanley & Chris Young can go off Anytime

who could forget it -- May 1 2006 -- Doug Mirabelli arrives at Fenway from a charter flight, in a taxicab that sped from Logan to Fenway Park w/police escort as Mirabelli changed into his uniform en route

the cab arrives, he jumps out in full uniform, races to the clubhouse -- and in time to catch Wake
that was so cool -- they hammed it up & reprised it at Wake's retirement in 2012, with Mirabelli arriving on the field in a police car

let's go Sox
we can't count on all those 3s to beat Wash -- Wall had 16 assists, Beal 27 pts -- they're dangerous
but we got Isaiah -- MVP -- Al H. played awesome ystrdy too -- foresee advncmnt to conf finals
Happy retirement #33 -- a hoosier thru & thru

Red Auerbach would have been envious.

In fact, chances are he would indeed have expressed this to Bruins GM Milt Schmidt in subsequent years, when hindsight revealed the trade for the fleecing it turned out to be.

No, just as the Boston Red Sox to this day feel the impact of the 1967 season, so too the Bruins. Both had been nearby occupants of the cellar, if not outright cellar dwellers, in the years leading up to that year.

May 15, 1967. A day Bruins fans to this day are grateful for.

In one of the most one-sided trades ever, the Bruins took Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield from the Chicago Blackhawks, in exchange for Pit Martin, Gilles Marotte and Jack Norris.

That wasn't even the half of it, but let's start there.

The Bruins were transformed on this day 50 years ago. Phil Esposito and Hodgie would become linemates who, along with eventual regular left winger Wayne Cashman, over the next six-seven years would become one of the most feared lines in the NHL.

Fred Stanfield would find himself centering a second line between Johnny "Chief" Bucyk and Johnny "Pie" McKenzie; in addition, all three (Stanfield Bucyk & McKenzie) would become part of one of the most vaunted power plays ever. The other two power players??...4 & 7... normally a center, Freddy played the point alongside Orr on the power play, and A Blistering Power Play It Was

Nope, with their new look the previously moribund B's were restored back to respectability as a result of this trade. It marked the beginning of a five-year run in which the Big, Bad Bruins Owned the city of Boston! Every Christmastime in my family, the Phil Esposito decoration is among the first to go up on the tree.

nope -- it didn't stop there -- you kiddin me

SHACKIE
(2 times)

it might've been the only time he snuck in under the radar in his career
May 1967 Bruins-Leafs Trade
MURRAY OLIVER FOR EDDIE SHACK
overlooked because right at around the same time as the 6-player swindle -- but wattanotha deal for Milt Schmidt & the Broonz

Eddie was real popular in Toronto & a key part of their Cup teams -- I guess even Eddie the Entertainer, always a hit with the fans, wasn't that w/management -- they even wrote a song about him in Toronto, but we got him May 1967, making it the month that put the B's on the right track for years to come

Shackie was Derek Sanderson's and Ed Westfall's first in a long line of left wingers, and DS & EW would later say that Eddie, along with Wayne "Swoop" Carleton, was the best in that 1967-72 Big Bad Bruins era. Eddie had 23 goals that first year, helping Turk win rookie of the year.

So put it all together: Espo, Hodge, Stanfield;
a brushcut kid defenseman entering his second year in the league after winning rookie of the year the previous season...from a town in north Ontario .... name of Parry Sound (genuflecting)...( )

a brash rookie center, all of 165 pounds who backed down from nobody -- the Turk, Derek Sanderson

and Eddie the Entertainah -- Eddie Shack -- thanks to James/CanadianMule, I'm reminded of his greatness every day with the Shackie card he sent me some years ago. It ended up with one of the biggest Eddie fans of all bro!! And is still right where it's always been w/my other Bruin mementos.

Yeah he was most notable w/the Leafs -- but, his fans know the role Eddie had in the formation of The Big Bad Bruins too -- he was a real good player who scored more than 20 goals with 5 teams
& in the black & gold of the Boston Broonz, won practically all his fights too..,

"Clear the track, here comes Shack,
He knocks them down and he gives them a whack."
Sung by The Secrets, the song was number one on Torontoís CHUM-AM 1050 radio stationís charts for two weeks, and remained on the chart for over two months.

The talk is how advantageous playing for his college coach will be
That was all the talk when Pitino came on board too tho & he had Antoine Walker & Paul Pierce, who he coached in college -- made no difference
still, Hayward should be a real good addition -- will see less of Jaylen Brown, Gerald Green, Terry Rozier & those players tho

IMO it has to start w/Hayward/Horford -- coach Stevens will surely impress on Gordon that it indeed is IT's team -- the other guys realized that last year & had good success with it
if Gordon can blend in & complement/play to our strengths, his game will elevate at the same time & we'll be Tough To Beat--

The offseason/salary-cap has not been kind to the Celtics --
our depth took a huge hit with Olynyk's departure, now AB the talk of trade rumors

I don't understand all the background **** , just the personnel on the floor -- there's a ton of pressure on Al Horford now w/no Kelley to back him up, and no Avery would set us back further no matter who it might bring in trade

that's the problem w pro sports -- there are no 'teams', just a continuous revolving door of players and rosters that change all the time depending on salary cap/best offers etc
