It seems appropriate to start with the next Volume since Palestine was granted the non member observer status at the UN and that is historic. Yasser Arafat has been exhumed for autopsy due to the finding of traces of a radioactive substance on his clothing. The same substance that was used to kill this spy, increasing speculation that he was assassinated by covert intelligence operatives.

Even with the new status for Palestine granted by the United Nations, peace will not be coming anytime soon to the Middle East as evidenced in the current situation in Syria.

SYRIA

Syrian warplanes killed at least eight civilians in an unprecedented air strike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Damascus on Sunday, said a monitoring group. "Warplanes staged an air strike on an area near Al-Bassel hospital... in Yarmuk camp, hurting several people," said the Observatory. According to initial reports cited by the watchdog, there may also have been people killed in the strike. Warplanes also bombarded the nearby districts of Al-Hajar al-Aswad and Assali, scene of intense fighting between troops and rebels, it added. "As for the Palestinians, they are divided over the conflict, and are fighting on both sides," he added.

Some 600 insurgents entered the camp after withdrawal of popular groups from al-Orouba and al-Lobiya streets and opened fire on everyone, which led to the killing and injury of many people, a source in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said on Sunday, adding the conflicts are still underway.

Syrian militants have been receiving training to use light and heavy weapons in Jordan with the help of the British and US governments, a new report says. The report quotes Zoubani as saying he was selected to receive the training along with at least three groups of 50 to 60 militants at a military base in southern Jordan in October, where uniformed Jordanian military officers were present as well as people he believed to be American intelligence officers.

Activists say more than 40,000 people have been killed in almost 21 months of conflict that has increasingly sectarian overtones.

The UN is considering deploying up to 10,000 peacekeepers in Syria as an emergency measure, reported Russian news agency Ria Novosti, citing sources in the UN. According to the report by Ria Novosti, the UN is putting together a contingency plan, should the Security Council give the go-ahead for intervention in the 21-month conflict. The anonymous UN source reportedly said the contingency plan involves 4,000 to 10,000 peacekeepers - made up of observers and civilian units as well as troops - being deployed in Syria.

SANA reported Syrian Foreign Minister Walled Muallem met with UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos in Damascus on Saturday. Muallem called on the UN to intervene in the conflict in Syria and to lift sanctions.

“In a globalizing world, securing fundamental rights and freedoms are now beyond the internal affairs of states but have crossed national borders to become the joint target of the entire world.”

The prime minister, with these words, has stated that now, in our times, it should be regarded a correct and legitimate stance for countries to take up each other’s issues on fundamental rights and freedoms. 27 European Countries attended the summit and agreed on this, which nullifies state sovereignty in determining a country’s own destiny. They don’t want individual countries determining what happens there, it is now the world’s business to intervene and put their will into effect.

Remarks: SOVEREIGNTY of countries and independent states may come under the jurisdiction of the United Nations who will give permission for wars to be waged.

SANA reported Syrian Foreign Minister Walled Muallem met with UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos in Damascus on Saturday. Muallem called on the UN to intervene in the conflict in Syria and to lift sanctions. The US put santions on Assad, he will not go willingly, he reportedly said he will stay till the last bullet in his arsenal is used. Iran affirms they will not allow the US to wage a covert war and come there with NATO blazing a trail to the Presidential Palace. Afghanistan? Yes the Taliban did send envoys to a peace conference that France had. As we withdraw troops from that belegured country we will just re-deploy them to the Syrian area when the time comes.

As we get ready to go over the Fiscal Cliff, which means the US govt. will have to raise the debt ceiling again, raise taxes on everyone, and cut programs, there is also something else coming.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/americas/2012/12/2012122925119331765.html

President Barack Obama has signed a law to counter Iran's alleged influence in Latin America, through a new diplomatic and political strategy to be designed by the State Department, the AFP news agency reported.

Enacted on Friday, the Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act, passed by lawmakers earlier this year, calls for the State Department to develop a plan within 180 days to "address Iran's growing hostile presence and activity".

Although the strategy is confidential and only accessible to lawmakers, it must contain a public summary.

The text also calls on the Department of Homeland Security to bolster surveillance at US borders with Canada and Mexico to "prevent operatives from Iran, the IRGC [Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps], its Quds Force, Hezbollah or any other terrorist organization from entering the United States."

And within Latin American countries, the text provides for a multi-agency action plan to provide security in those countries, along with a "counterterrorism and counter-radicalisation plan" to isolate Iran and its allies.

[counterradicalization is political speak for we covertly fund militias to take out regimes and leaders who are not playing ball with us foreign policy wise]. On the surface this may not seem onerous, but bear in mind the end of March the UN will take up that arms treaty seeking to disarm citizens globally, helping to pave the way for whoever is ruling to do so with absolute authority, no dissent or rebellion will be possible even in a fascist state.

"(D) to address the vital national security interests of the United States in ensuring energy supplies from the Western Hemisphere that are free from the influence of any foreign government that would attempt to manipulate or disrupt global energy markets."

Seems to me Iraq was doing just fine with their energy market till we came along to liberate them. ...

PAKISTAN

Hakim Ullah Mehsud has released a video last Thursday saying that they are not opposed to peace, but they will not surrender their weapons and then negotiate.

http://www.aljazeera.com/video/asia/2012/12/201212292100939987.html

This should put to rest the rumors that have been in the media. There were journalists who said Hakim was being marginalized and that the group was going to replace him and he had not led any big attacks since August. He is the Emir or the Pakistani Taliban, as passionate and determined as ever. Peace in Pakistan is a issue between Pakistan and them, the US has no role to play in that.

"Wali ur-Rehman is sitting with me here and we will be together until death," said Mehsud, pointing at his companion. "We are against the democratic system because it is un-Islamic," Mehsud said.

"Our war isn't against any party. It is against the non-Islamic system and anyone who supports it."

"In the past, it is the Pakistani government that broke peace agreements," he said. "A slave of the U.S. can't make independent agreements; it breaks agreements according to U.S. dictat."

"We are Afghan Taliban and Afghan Taliban are us," he said. "We are with them and al Qaida. We are even willing to get our heads cut off for al Qaida."

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/12/28/pakistan-taliban-idUKL4N0A22QT2012 1228

The POINTS FOR PEACE (requirements from the Pakistan Taliban) are these:

On Thursday, two Taliban spokesmen laid out conditions for a ceasefire with the Pakistani government that included the adoption of Islamic law, renouncing the alliance with the United States and halting any involvement in Afghanistan.

They all want peace, but will not bargain on their religion, or accept secular governance. They want an Islamist state, and will not lay down arms while their fellow fighters in Afghanistan are still being besieged. The US would have to get out of Afghanistan, the Pakistan govt. has to stop working with the US in coordinating and/or allowing drone attacks in their country.

Update 1.3.12

AFGHANISTAN/PAKISTAN

Pakistan released a few more Afghan Talibs in a gesture of good will.

Those freed include three officials from the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan that was recognized by just three countries before it was ousted in late 2011: former Justice Minister Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, former Helmand Province Governor Mullah Abdul Bari, former Deputy Communication Minister Mullah Allah Dad, and Muhammad Azim, a former guard of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.

AL QAIDA IN THE ARABIAN PENINSULA (AQAP)

Al Qaida has offerred payment in gold for anyone who kills the US Ambassador to Yemen,Gerald Feierstein.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) said it was offering three kilograms of gold (value $160,000) for the killing of the U.S. ambassador in Sanaa, Gerald Feierstein, the U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group said, citing an audio released by militants.

AQAP will also pay 5 million rials ($23,350) to whoever kills any American soldier in Yemen, it said.

The offer, valid for six months, was made "to encourage our Muslim Ummah (nation), and to expand the circle of the jihad (holy war) by the masses," SITE said, citing the audio.

Israel called the homes in the area “illegal” and said evacuation is temporary and for military exercise. “Due to a military exercise temporary eviction notices were distributed today, the Israeli military said in a statement. “At the conculsion of the exercise, the residents will be permitted to return” .

IRAQ to Bahrain

http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9107132449
TEHRAN (FNA)- Bahrain's national air carrier, Gulf Air, has transited a total of 1,000 loyalists to Iraq's former dictator Saddam Hussein to Manama on several flights, including on Gulf Air Flight No. GF976, on December 22, informed Arab sources disclosed on Wednesday.

"The Bahraini government has begun granting nationality to and recruiting (former Iraqi dictator) Saddam Hussein's forces and has already attracted 1,000 of these forces who have become Bahraini citizens after going through administrative procedures," an informed source at the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) told FNA.

The Saddam loyalists were immediately granted Bahrain's citizenship, given houses, and recruited by the country's security organization upon their arrival in the tiny Persian Gulf country. They were the last group of Saddam's loyalists who were transferred to Manama International Airport from Amman, Jordan's capital. They had fled Iraq through the country's land borders with Jordan.

A former commander of Iraq's presidential guard, Tareq al-Shamri, was in charge of transferring Saddam's loyalists to Bahrain from Jordan.

AFGHANISTAN

There have been news reports about the murder by drone attack of Mullah Nazir, an original Islamic Emirate Provincial Council Member (appointed to that position by Mullah Omar), though for the last twelve years he is believed to have resided in Wana in Waziristan and leading a group of fighters there. There has been no official statement by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, so until there is, I do not want to report his death. There were many drone attacks in North and South Waziristan last week Wednesday night into Thursday, 2 cars were targeted and struck with missiles, additional drones were fired into people trying to retrieve bodies from the cars, a house was targeted and struck. There were at least 16 people who were killed from these attacks.

There were two missiles fired at his car in Sar Kanda, in Bermil, South Waziristan at 10:35 pm, however, there were reports that he had car trouble and was or had transferred to another vehicle.

Separately, four people were killed and several others injured in a drone attack in the Mubarak Shahi village in North Waziristan tribal region’s Mir Ali Tehsil. The US drone targeted a vehicle with two missiles, and then fired another two missiles when rescuers gathered at the site to carry the bodies and the injured.

Thousands of people came out to protest the drone attacks.

More than 3,000 tribesmen, carrying black flags, later marched towards Azam Warsak, around seven kilometres (four miles) west of Wana and passed a resolution against the US,” Amir Nawaz said.

Residents in both Angoor Adda and Wana, the biggest town in South Waziristan, said they heard announcements on mosque loudspeakers announcing Nazir's death. One resident, Ajaz Khan, told The Associated Press by telephone that 5,000 to 10,000 people attended the funeral of Nazir and six other people held in Angoor Adda.

Video

http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2013/01/good_taliban_leader_1.php
Mullah Nazir's Taliban faction is one of four major Taliban groups that joined the Shura-e-Murakeba, an alliance brokered by al Qaeda in late 2011. The Shura-e-Murakeba also includes Hafiz Gul Bahadar's group; the Haqqani Network; and the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, which is led by Hakeemullah Mehsud and his deputy, Waliur Rehman Mehsud. The members of the Shura-e-Murakeba agreed to cease attacks against Pakistani security forces, refocus efforts against the US in Afghanistan, and end kidnappings and other criminal activities in the tribal areas.

He was next to Nek Muhammad the one who was the first victim of drone attack in Shakai in 2005. After the death of Nek Muhammad, Mullah Nazir was nominated as his successor and chief of Wazir Taliban in Wana South Waziristan.

One of the issues Mullah Nazir dealt with was tribal differences. In the Ahmedzai Wazir area he wanted the Mehsud tribesmen out of the area (those loyal to Hakimullah Mehsud). Nazir did not want to fight againt the Pakistani government. For that he enjoyed the support of local tribesmen. IN 2007 he was instrumental in forging a peace agreement among all the tribes in the area witha 120 member committee.

July 2008: Mullah Nazir's 'Ahmadzai Wazir tribe' 500 strong Jirga that they will defend Pakistan Govt against Mehsud tribes. [India.] Mullah Nazir formed alliance with Hafiz Gul Bahadur who had peace agreement with Pak government in start of 2008.

End of 2008: First drone attack on Mullah Nazir where he survived.

2009: Afhgani Emirates successfully brings all umberalla groups together -- Creation of Shura Itehad e Muhahadeen to focus on Afghanistan with new surge of troops. [Nazir, Beitullah, and Hafiz Gul Bahadur joins]

Increase of drone attacks in South Waziristan.

Mullah Nazir was injured in November 2012 when a suicide bomber exploded his car near his at Rustam Bazar in Wana. (main marketplace). The Pakistani Taliban had sent the bomber but were NOT targeting him. This past December, Mullah Nazir had instructed all Mehsud tribesmen to leave the area by December 5th. Mullah Nazir was also responsible for getting the Uzbeks out of Waziristan, even though it was not done in a peaceful manner in the past.

The Mehsud tribesmen responded to his request with the following plea:

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: After most internally displaced Mehsud tribesmen left Wana, a pamphlet allowing their stay was distributed in Wana Rustam Bazaar, South Waziristan on Friday.

The Mehsuds were forced to leave following a decision of a jirga held between Ahmedzai Wazirs and the Mullah Nazir group on November 29. The jirga announced that all Mehsuds would be expelled from Wana by December 5.

“The Mehsud tribe through this letter is informed that here (we have) peace for you, you people can live here and we have nothing to do with you. The innocent Mehsud IDPs and those living here since long can live peacefully,” read the pamphlet.

Signed by ‘Mujahideen Waziristan Wana subdivision’, it further said that the settled and displaced Mehsuds should form a committee that can communicate with them and exchange ideas The Mehsuds were also that they could approach the Mullah Nazir group if they face any injustice.

After the announcement, hundreds of Mehsuds left their houses in Wana and began moving towards North Waziristan, districts of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan and Zhob, Balochistan.
The tribal elders also said that any member of the Ahmadzai tribe giving refuge to a Mehsud will be fined Rs1 million and his house will be demolished.

[the Mehsud tribesmen are NOT related to Hakim Ullah Mehsud necessarily, Mehsud is a tribal name].

Who is Mullah Nazir?

Mullah Nazeer Ahmed Hamza, was born in 1975 in Bermel, the Afghan side of South Waziristan. Mullah Nazeer Ahmed graduated the primary education in the local Madrassa, acquired religious education at the Central Madrassa at Wana, the capital of South Waziristan ¨CFATA region.

During his education in 1995-98, Mullah Nazeer Ahmed participated in the Afghan civil war with the Taliban Mujahideen after the conquest of Mazar Sharif.

Mullah Nazeer Ahmed became one of the warlords of South Waziristan and provided support to the Taliban in Afghanistan after operation Absolute Justice in 12/2001. He was, on and of, a rival and a copartner with Baitullah Mehsud.

In May 2002, the Pakistani military sent approximately 8,000 troops into South Waziristan in an effort to kill or capture the thousands of al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters operating out of the agency. At this point, Nazir claims that he had “no choice other than to direct [his] weapons towards the Pakistani Government.”

By 2003, Nazir had made his way onto Pakistan’s most-wanted list, and in 2004 he surrendered to Pakistani authorities. Authorities subsequently interrogated him, declared him “clean and clear,” and released him after signing a peace agreement with Nek Mohammad, a powerful Taliban commander from South Waziristan. [whom the US assassinated in 2005 - Baitullah Mehsud succeeded him and Hakim ullah Mehsud succeeded Baitullah].

In summer 2007 Mullah Nazeer Ahmed¡¯s tribe raised against the presence of about 1,200 Uzbek militants who were concentrated around Wana, the capital of South Waziristan after complaints of target-killing, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes against the Uzbeks grew. Many of the Uzbeks were forced to leave the region and returned to Uzbekistan. Hundreds Uzbek and 50 local tribesmen were killed in the clashes. The event caused temporary tension between the Taliban in Afghanistan and Mullah Nazeer Ahmed. Nazir had claimed that over the previous two years, the Uzbeks had killed more than 200 tribal elders from his region He also accused the Uzbek militants of “killing and robbing tribesmen besides imposing their self-styled shari‘a upon them.Further, Nazir and other locals developed a grudge against the Uzbeks for claiming valuable and cultivable land in South Waziristan, which they often turned into highly successful farms. These grievances, combined with the fact that Nazir’s Taliban rivals cooperated with and sheltered some of the Uzbek fighters, inclined Nazir to turn his own guns against the Uzbeks.

By April 2007, Nazir, with significant help from the Pakistani military, had killed an estimated 250 Uzbek militants and driven them out of Wana and the surrounding areas. That same month, Beitullah Mehsud, one of the Taliban rivals of Nazir who benefited from the support of Uzbek fighters, helped, along with the Taliban’s Afghan leadership, negotiate a truce between Nazir and the Uzbeks. In December of that same year, Beitullah Mehsud formed and became the emir of the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella group of Taliban factions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), which gave Mehsud unprecedented power. Mullah Nazir refused to join the Pakistani Taliban.

In 2008 there were problems in Wana, Nazir’s office in Wana came under attack, resulting in the deaths of three of Nazir’s associates and wounding four others; a few days later, another nine of Nazir’s tribesmen died in an attack on an office belonging to Haji Khanan, one of Nazir’s closest allies. Most thought it was the Pakistani Taliban. But they are from the same tribes and sub tribes AND

From early 2008 Mullah Nazeer Ahmed is one of the main leading figures in the Tehrik-e-Taleban alliance and is cooperating with Baitullah Mehsud. Mullah Nazeer Ahmed is a member of the Shura Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen (Central Council of the allied Taliban groups in Pakistan). In January 2008 Mullah Omar sent a 6 member delegation to mediate the differences and enact peace. Within a week of the deployment announcement, the three main Taliban leaders from Waziristan issued a statement announcing their alliance in the Shura Ittihad Mujahideen, or Allied Mujahideen Council. Also emphasized was that the alliance did not equate to a merger, as the groups would remain under independent leadership and operate autonomously in their own territories.

By 2009 he viewed Pakistani govt.'s cooperating with the US in the drone attacks, which is when his stance began to change. (if your govt. attacks you, how can you not fight back?), still he believes in the sovereignty of Pakistan and even after all this,

IN 2012 he forged peace treaties among the tribes and refused to fight the Pakistani Army. For this the US sent drones after him.

Nobody in the tribal areas wants to fight, so why do we keep sending drones to provoke them?

Update 1.7.13

SYRIA

Bashar al Assad appeared on television on Snday 1.6.13 to speak to the people of his nation and the world. He maintains that it is foreign countries sending/funding rebels who are trying to oust him, and not the common people.

http://www.france24.com/en/20130106-assad-address-speech-developments-syria

The first stage of a political solution would require that regional powers stop funding and arming [the opposition], an end to terrorist operations and controlling the borders," he said, in his first formal comments since a June address to parliament.

“This is a conflict between the country and its enemies, between the people and criminals, between citizens with their desire to live, and earn a living and those who wish to deprive them of their bread,” he said.

PAKISTAN

http://dawn.com/2013/01/07/qadri-warns-of-unleashing-march-on-lahore/

Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri warned the Punjab government on Sunday that if it tried to obstruct its Jan 14 march on Islamabad he would unleash half of its participants on Lahore.
“We have been informed by leaders of our district, tehsil and union councils that local police and administration are harassing our party workers, people and transporters in a bid to stop them from joining the long march. Therefore, we ask the Punjab government to stop using such tactics; otherwise half of the four million marchers will turn to Lahore and the rest will go to Islamabad,” he warned while talking to reporters after addressing a gathering of party workers, lawyers, farmers and other people.

Remark: Four million people marching for change in Pakistan is a force to be reckoned with, even though the sponsors say it will be a peaceful march. The Pakistani government is saying that The Pakistani Taliban plan to disrupt the march and/or use it to get people to storm major cities in Pakistan. THEY DENY THIS.

http://dawn.com/2013/01/08/ttp-deny-threat-on-long-march/

ISLAMABAD: Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan denied that the group had threatened to attack the long march announced for Jan 14, by Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri .

“This is not true, we have not issued any threat to attack the long march,” Ehsan told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location. “We have no comments for the long march,” he added.

Earlier on Monday Federal Interior Minister, Dr Abdul Rehman Malik had said that Taliban militants have threatened to attack a rally for election reforms. “Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has threatened to attack the long march,” Malik told reporters in a joint press conference with Qadri.

Meanwhile, the US continues the drone attacks in the tribal regions. Today they killed sixteen people in Miramshah, in North Waziristan. According to reports, Hakimullah Mehsud's cousin, Wali Muhammad, also known as Toofin Mehsud was reportedly among those killed when EIGHT missiles were dispatched into three homes (compounds). Toofin Mehsud was/is commander of the Fedayeen Suicide Bomber unit of the Taliban.

http://dawn.com/2013/01/08/us-drone-attacks-kill-eight-in-pakistan-official s/

The missiles struck militant compounds in the villages of Haider Khel and Hasookhel some 25 kilometres east of Miramshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal district, a stronghold of Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked militants. “US drones fired missiles on two militant compounds. At least eight militants have been killed,” a security official in Miranshah told AFP. The two attacks occurred within an hour, with four militants killed in each compound, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Legal lobby group Reprieve estimates that up to nearly 900 civilians were among the 2,621 to 3,442 people killed by drones in Pakistan since 2004.

Remarks: Don't expect US foreign policy to change even though the administration is changing some key members of it's staff. As one reporter succinctly put it

"Since last April John Brennan, President Obama’s nominee to head the CIA, has been the point man making the administration’s legal and moral case for targeted killing (what used to be called assassination). But Brennan has also indicated he doesn’t want the CIA to be in the paramilitary, as opposed to spying, business (at least not all that much). All of which raises an important question: As CIA director will Brennan continue his current role as the administration’s counterterror chief, turning the agency into the president’s personal killing machine? Or will he try to fob off more of the dirty work on the Pentagon?"

The New Defense Secretary nominee, Chuck Hagel wanted restraint in the attacks. Yet he is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and you know the group the other members belong to. (Bbergs, Rockefellers, Rothschilds). The power elite who run the world by having people in key positions, including heads of state.

Most of you laughed when I told you that the Afghan Taliban descended from two of the original tribes of Israel, the Tribe of Benjamin and the Bani Israel Tribe (who migrated to Kashmir, then to Afghanistan), well now there are documents proving migrations of the Jewish people to Afghanistan.

"Israel's National Library has revealed the first physical evidence of an ancient Jewish community in Afghanistan. Documents which came from caves in an area of northern Afghanistan has been handed to the library after it was contacted by antiquities dealers.

Library officials have said they are unsure how the documents were put into the hands of the dealers as they had been found in an area controlled by the Taliban. The documents, some 1,000 years old, apparently survived in cool, dark caves. The Afghan find is being described as the greatest since similar papers were discovered in an Egyptian synagogue more than 100 years ago.

While the Egyptian manuscripts are now part of a valuable collections of historical documents in Israel's National Library, the documents recently uncovered from Afghanistan are being heralded as one of the greatest Jewish archives ever found.

They include biblical commentaries, personal letters and financial records written in Hebrew, Aramaic, Judea-Arabic and the unique Judeo-Persian language from that era. The manuscripts included evidence of mercantile activities along the "Silk Road" connecting Europe and the East.

The library has said it paid for the collection but declined to give a figure."

Just a few more things for the expanded update today.

AFGHANISTAN

Karzai will be meeting with Obama in DC to discuss mutual concerns.

"Afghanistan has asked the United States to provide them with the American spy balloons currently in service in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, after the US-led forces leave the country by the end of 2014. "

Chief of police Niaz Mohammad said how Afghan police should provide “the eyes in the sky.” At nighttime when they [militants] want to come and put in roadside bombs for us, we can't see them. We don't have technology like balloons…and that is a big thing for us.”

"The US sent soldiers to Arghandab, in central part of Kandahar, as part of the 2010 surge, taking balloons, equipped with cameras and other intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance gear. The deployment of the balloons to Afghanistan became a priority for the Pentagon by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

US military officers described the spy balloons as a "force multiplier" for monitoring areas and protecting operating bases from possible threats. "

IRAN

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/08/282378/iran-to-launch-two-combined- cycle-plants/

Iran is set to inaugurate two combined cycle power plants with the production capacity of 648 megawatts in the central Iranian province of Semnan. Mohammad Reza Qalambor, the projects’ manager, said Shahid Bastami power plant in the city of Shahrood and Quds power plant in the city of Semnan would be inaugurated later on Tuesday.

Qalambor noted that the project comprises four 162-megawatt units, adding that nearly 19 million dollars have been invested in each of the plants. In December, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the second phase of the largest combined cycle power plant in the Middle East in the northern Iranian city of Pakdasht.

Six steam units of Shohada-ye Pakdasht (Pakdasht Martyrs) plant, built with an investment of over two billion euros, were inaugurated by the Iranian president. All the equipment of the Pakdasht plant’s steam units including turbines, generators and boilers have been made by Iranian experts, and the plant has 12 gas and six steam units.

Remarks: So we have assassinated Hakimullah's cousin in combined drone strikes, Karzai wants spy balloons over his country so he won't be lonely when US forces depart (we're only leaving 9,000-10,000 there), and Iran is firing up 2 nuclear power power plants. And it's only the first week of the New Year.

There will never be peace in the Middle East. Never was and never will be for as long as the world shall be.
The Middle East will never be American conquered.
The Middle East will never abide by USA. Why won't we the hell out of the Middle East for the umpeeth time.

Middle East and democracy don't match . Islamic faith is not democratic. THe lie, cutlure, relgion is not designed that way. Stop trying to make a circle a square. These people have bombed here and there and still, we don't get it.
Get out!
Leave'em alone.
Pretty easy to read and even more easy to unerstand if those in the USA in power would finally get that.

It will be interesting to see how our foreign policy changes, if it actually does change once our economy goes down and that may be coming sooner than people think.

The U.S. might run out of funds to pay all its bills as early as Feb. 15 after it exhausts emergency measures undertaken when it hit the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling at the end of last month, the Bipartisan Policy Center said Monday.

The Treasury Department has started using so-called “extraordinary measures” to keep funding the government. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said Dec. 26 that “under normal circumstances” those safety lines would last for about two months and create about $200 billion of “headroom.”

“Based on financial data from Treasury, we estimate that the government will be unable to pay all of its bills as early as Feb. 15,” Steve Bell, senior director of the economic policy project at the Washington-based Bipartisan Policy Center, said in an e-mailed statement Monday. “We have less time to solve this problem than many realize.”

[Bloomberg and Money News].

Meanwhile 1.5 million Syrians are going hungry in UN Refugee camps, while he help fund the Syrian war.

Update 1.11.13

AFGHANISTAN

Karzai met with Obama yesterday in Washington, DC to discuss troop withdrawal etc. At the conclusion of the meeting we now read that Obama is saying they will stop shooting at Afghans and begin troop withdrawal this spring. Whoo-hoo.

There was also a meeting of scholars and others in Kabul whereby they sought to have scholars declare that suicide bombings were un-Islamic and they wanted them to issue a fatwa and create divisiveness within the Afghan Taliban. The Afghan Taliban do not routinely use suicide bombers and Mullah Omar has expressly forbidden using any children/youths in the practice in the rare instances that they use these tactics. On this issue they differ with their brothers across the border in Pakistan, who are of the belief that it is okay to involve the children (and that idea came from Al Qaida who recruited them).

Here is the Afghan Talibs statement on the gathering in Kabul of the Ulama.

Safar 14, 1434 A.H, Friday, December 28, 2012

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

The righteous religious scholars, whom the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) called his successor, have very prestigious status in the Islamic society and their responsibility is heavier than anyone else. As in the earlier nations the Prophets (peace be upon them) bore the responsibility of leading the human societies and were considered the source of guidance. Subsequent to the departure of the last Prophet (peace be upon him) this duty was assigned to the righteous religious scholars in inheritance. Therefore in various stages of the history, the religious scholars have been the pioneers of Jihad, knowledge, guidance, politics and all other areas and they have emancipated the nation in very critical conditions with the help of Allah Almighty.

The nearest example is the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. When the result of the 14 year war against the former Soviet Union was endangered, the nation and the country was facing the peril of separation, the life, property and honor of the courageous Afghan nation was in menace, the people were burning in the flames of corruption and internal fighting, neglected by the whole world and humanity; these were the courageous Afghan scholars who rose against this quandary. They led the pious Islamic Movement of the religious students (Taliban) and not only emancipated their own people from the corruption and insecurity but also revived the memory of the Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them) and implemented the pure Islamic Sharia.

When the world enemies of Islam saw this situation, once again they felt the hatred and historical enmity against Islam. They attacked the Islamic boundary of Afghanistan by putting forward various false excuses.

In the sensitive moments of the western infidel invasion, once again 1500 expert scholars of Afghanistan got together and after several days of discussions, unanimously reached the conclusion that the invasion by America and its allies is unjust and Jihad is considered strictly obligatory in the light of all the decrees of Quran and Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet, peac ebe upon him).

When the despotic invasion of the infidels started, on the basis of the above mentioned sources, Jihad became obligatory on the Afghans under their legal Ameer (leader). Now 11 years have passed that our nation has rendered all kind of sacrifices to fulfill this Divine decree. Ulema, the pious people, women, white-bearded, children and common people were martyred, afflicted, migrated, imprisoned and are still facing a lot of troubles. They have not surrendered to the enemy and are struggling against the foe to fulfill the Divine ruling. By the grace of Allah Almighty the enemy has been pushed back on all fronts, their conspiracies have been aborted, their deceits and sleights have became unproductive; they resorted to other satanic tactics besides the war.

The process of Mujahidin’s surrender in the name of peace council, the amnesty and promise of salaries by dollars, the creation and support of the second high council of peace, the misleading propaganda through media, verdicts of some evil scholars against Jihad, the process of local militia, the forged dramas of defiance; they tried their best by force and money but by the grace of Allah Almighty, Mujahidin showed their patience and steadfastness and aborted every conspiracy respectively.

As all the American intrigues were brought to naught and they were deeply disappointed, they now want to utilize some other regional plots and machinations to stop the American defeat. Therefore they want to convene a gathering of scholars from several countries of the Islamic world. This gathering is apparently convened by the in-charges of Kabul admin but its real motivators and players are Americans. They want to take a survey of the viewpoints of Ulema in Afghanistan about the 11 year Jihad. This is a clear American intrigue and they want to utilize the Ulema only to clean their black picture and at the same time create mistrust amongst Mujahidin and thus pave the road for American presence to perpetually take control of the region.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan urges all the righteous Ulema of region and the world to not participate in this fraudulent gathering as it is their religious obligation be the religious scholars of Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, from India's Darul Uloom Deoband, from Egypt’s Al Azhar or any other country. You understand that participation in this gathering in the time of defeat is not only support to America but also great unfaithfulness to Mujahidin who are your spiritual offspring. You should support your Mujahidin brothers due to your intellectual and religious obligations, who have followed the footsteps of the Companions of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) 1400 years later and on your guidance.

Do believe! If these Mujahidin had not given myriad sacrifices, the names of many Islamic countries would have been wiped from the map of the world today. So many other Islamic countries would have been occupied just like Iraq by the invader Americans. It is the Mujahidin who confronted America and completely defeated them and now the whole region is turning towards peace and tranquility. You understand that the Americans commit different kinds of crimes in our country on the daily basis. They kill the people, spread immorality and deviation from the religion and dream for their protracted presence in the region.

If God forbid, some of the scholars are deceived by them and accompany them, participate in their gathering and comply with their demands, it is not far away that the history will give its ruling against them. They will be accountable to Allah Almighty and the people will consider them from amongst the scholars of evil. We understand that you have boycotted the above mentioned gathering on the basis of your awareness; but still we are obliged to remind you so that God forbid you are deceived by the infidels. If someone participates with the intention that one will say the truth, this argument is invalid because the reality does not come out of this conference. The media controlled by western intelligence will only broadcast the news which is in their favor and will repeatedly show the names and pictures of Ulema alongside that news. In this way they will dishonor the Ulema in the minds of Mujahidin and all true Muslims.

It is an accepted reality that the present war in our country in not only a war, but it is Holy Jihad against the invasion which is started at the verdict of 1500 religious Ulema and is ongoing under their supervision. Our rival is America and the world infidelity. The ineffectual admin of Kabul is set up by the infidels that can neither represent our people nor our country. It cannot take even a single step without the prior permission of America so it is not a free and independent government. The evidence for our rectitude and Divine support is that we have humiliated the Pharaohnic (arrogant) forces of the world with less manpower and weak resources to such an extent that today they are again appealing to the Ulema deviously as they have lost their prestige in the whole world. Their economy is in recession and the day is not far away that the world will be free from their malice.

You might be aware that an easy war is not going on here; such a severe war is going on here that in 2010 the NATO itself announced that 18000 attacks have been carried out by Mujahidin this year i.e. 50 attacks per day. In 2011 the annual number increased to 21000 i.e. 60 attacks per day. And the year 2012 is even more severe than the previous ones. Therefore America and its allies are under severe pressure. Most of the allies have retreated and have withdrawn their forces while others have started their withdrawal process. This is the pressure that compelled has America to wail before you and expect salvation.

We hope that you will not extent supportive and emancipative hand to the assassin America which is shedding the blood of oppressed people in the world and is sucking all the resources of the planet. In the end your attention is once again drawn towards your heavy responsibility and lofty status that you can preserve your prestige not by participating in this kind of gatherings.

The aspiration and objective our Holy Jihad is to elevate the Word of Allah and our people will not put their guns aside until we are satisfied that the Islamic Sovereignty is restored and Allah’s decrees are implemented in the frame of a real Islamic Sovereignty.

And this never hard for Allah Almighty.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

These are examples of atrocities that have occurred in Afganistan over the past few months, at the hands of our troops.

"On July 11, foreign invaders carried out a raid on Kondlano area of Shahwalikot district (Kandahar) during which they trashed homes in search operations and martyred<< five>> civilians before leaving.

On August 30, 2 artillery shells slammed into a home and its garage in Baraki Barak district center (Logar), leveling both of the buildings and leaving <<five>> civilians martyred and <<ten>> others wounded. The security chief of Logar Police department, Raees Khan, confirms the incident and casualties but is unaware of its details. Local residents from the area say that the artillery shells were fired from inside the base of foreign troops while the foreigners have not said anything about the incident.

On August 31, Press TV reported that foreign invaders carried out airstrikes in Ghor province from which <<12>> civilians were martyred.

On September 2, Arabaki militia martyred << fifteen>> civilians in Kanam village adjacent Kunduz city, injured a number of others and took away several more as prisoners. Locals later said: “A former ‘Gilam Jum’ and gunman by the name of Qadir is now a Local Police commander and head of several check posts. His men came to the village at night and at daybreak, opened fire on locals who came out of their homes”. The incident took place after the said commander was kill by unknown gunmen and his men were after revenge.

Media reported on September 8 that hireling troops injured <<twenty>> civilians including women and children in Bala Marghab district’s Maidanzo village (Badghis), some of whom later passed away due to heavy wounds. Locals contacted by media through telephone said that the incident happened when police from a nearby check post indiscriminately shot at civilians after a bomb destroyed a police vehicle.

Media reported on 16 September that foreign forces killed and wounded <<twenty>> civilians in Nurlam area of Alingar district (Laghman. Reports said that<< eight>> women were amongst the martyred, adding that local women and children were out collecting wood when they suddenly became targets of enemy helicopters. Like every other time, the invaders simply said that they targeted Mujahideen and no civilians were harmed. However the officials of Laghman province and witnesses said that the victims of this bombing were all innocent poor locals who were out collecting fire wood.

On September 21, foreign invaders carried out a night raid on Gezak village of Shahwalikot district (Kandahar) during which they martyred <<six>> civilians.

On October 6, an Arbaki stabbed a woman to death in Andu Jan village adjacent Kunduz city. Locals told that media that the mentioned woman was killed for putting up resistance to the gunman’s forced fornication.

On October 12, foreign forces carried out a raid on Zareen village of Shilgar district (Ghazni), trashed homes during searches before martyring <<seven>> civilians including three children and one woman. The provincial governor’s spokesman, Nabi Jan, confirms the casualties in the incident and says that an investigation team has been sent to collect information, adding that the operation was carried out by the invaders without informing them.

On October 15, American helicopters targeted a tractor of locals in Tangano Godar area of Nawa district (Helmand) as a result, <<fifteen>> civilians onboard were martyred. Locals say that the victims were moving house when they were targeted.

On October 21, American invaders fired mortars at She Khelo village of Baraki Barak district (Logar) from which <<six>> children were martyred and <<two>> others wounded. Their names are as follow: Hakeen S/O Marjan; Umar Jan S/O Abdul Jabbar; Rahmat S/O Nawab; Zahit S/O Shams; Ya-Gul S/O Saleh and Hamayum S/O Ghazi (all residents of She Khelo village). Wounded Abdul Jabbar S/O Mayran and Zafar S/O Hassan (both residents of Nawabad village).

On October 26, foreign forces martyred <<three>> white bearded elders in Kajaki district’s Zamindawar region (Helmand). Locals say that amongst dead area is an 85 year old Haji Saifuddin from Larkan Nawa’s Mazar village, 90 year old Sa’duddin Aka from Awdaru village and Ghafar Agha from Mazar village.

On November 6, foreign forces carried out a raid on Shah Karez and Landi Karez areas of Zamindawar regioin, Kajaki district (Helmand) during which they martyred <<five>> innocent civilians.

On November 20, foreign forces raided several areas of Shahwalikot district during which they trashed people’s homes, beat up locals and martyred <<five>> civilians including elders and teens before arresting another civilian and leaving the area.

The provided number of casualties is only a glimpse of the atrocities carried out by the foreign forces and gunmen of Kabul administration whereas the actual number is several times higher. This report of the UN fails to mention even a single one of these apparent incidents which confirms the doubt of the Afghan nation that the said organization, under the name of impartiality, is employed by the foreign occupation forces and works under their instructions."

REMARKS: Civilians are being murdered and abused and the world does not even know, and those who do know do not care enough to say war crimes have occurred, or prevent them. Anan Latif, prisoner from Gitmo who ultimately committed suicide said it best in his last note to humantiy,

"A world power failed to safeguard peace and human rights."

And yet we expect the Afghans to lay down their arms and join our idea of governance. Still they want peace. They want the carnage to end, they want their Afghan sovereignty.

Text of speech enunciated by Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan at research conference in France

The full text of speech enunciated by two representatives from Political Office of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Shahbuddin Dilawar and Doctor Muhammad Naeem, at research conference in Chantilly of France convened from 20-21/12/2012:

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful – All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and may His peace and blessing be upon the noblest of prophets and messengers, his family and companions.

We foremost thank Foundation for Strategic Research as well as its Director, Camille Grand, for taking practical steps, on basis of humanitarian sympathy, towards peace and tranquility for the Afghan nation and especially for affording an opportunity to the Islamic Emirate to express its viewpoint. We also thank all other parties that have strived for this cause.

Balance of political power in the future government of Afghanistan

In the future Islamic government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the balance of power or participation in government of by all Afghan parties must be implemented in the constitution upon below specifications:

1 - Codification of Constitution

Every power and system of government in the current world needs a complete and clear constitution to organize and coordinate its internal and foreign affairs in order to pave the way for advancement and prosperity of its citizens and so that every person properly grasps their role in the confines of law. Constitution is integral for every government because, without it, the affairs of development of its nation and country will face disorder and numerous obstacles. The personal, civil and political rights of all citizens of Afghanistan shall be regulated through the Constitution; rights shall be given to all brother ethnicities without discrimination; will make clear relations between the government and people; will shed light on balance of government three structured powers; will determine government’s type, administration and powers; in sum, will gain acceptance from the Afghan nation and the world regarding the internal and foreign policy of Afghanistan.

Therefore the Islamic Emirate, for the welfare, prosperity and advancement of its proud nation, considers such a constitution necessary which is framed on the principles of noble Islam, national interests, historical achievements and social justice; abides by Human Rights and national values; guarantees the country’s sovereignty and rights of all its citizens and shall not contain any articles and clauses opposing Islamic principles, national interests and Afghan mores. With the blessing of constitution, way shall be paved for political power balance and all Afghan parties to participate in the upcoming government.

We clearly state the stipulations of the constitution shall be written by Afghan scholars in a free atmosphere and will then be presented to the nation for approval. The current constitution of Afghanistan is illegitimate because it is written under the shadows of B-52 aircrafts.

2 - 2014 elections

We believe that the 2014 elections are not beneficial for solving the Afghan quandary because these elections are planned under invasion and will take place during ongoing occupation therefore the results shall be no different than the previous elections. All observed that the 2004 and 2009 elections did not lessen but increased problems for the Afghans. So called National Assembly elections were also held twice however it failed to solve the nation’s problems but contrarily, increased them many folds. All this because elections laws, organizations and officials involved were created at the fancy and requests of foreigners while the demands and needs of the Afghans were not attended. The said elections did not only not solve the Afghan quandary but also brought shame to the western backers of the stooge regime; fraud was rampant, ballots went missing, vow ceremony faced dilemmas and holdups and the opening ceremony of national assembly faced several months delay.

3 – Islamic Emirate

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is an Islamic reality on the face of the planet, is the legitimate government of our beloved country, has every operational administration and has notable achievements in several areas. People in the majority parts of the country turn towards its courts, political activities in shape of a Political Office is known to everyone an example of which is our presence here and education is also forging ahead in many parts of the country with the Emirate’s help. America with the help of over forty (40) countries have invaded our country. The Islamic Emirate has carried out sacred Jihad against the occupation for over eleven years and has put forward notable sacrifices for the independence of its country and defense of its religion and honor. The Islamic Emirate had brought security to over 95% of the country before the invasion; had collected illegal weapons; had stopped narcotics; had secured borders of the beloved country; had provided education, work and open trade for the nation in complete security. We can even proudly state that in the previous reign of Islamic Emirate, we achieved things which the western world is unable to do even with its entire military and economic means.

It has repeatedly been expounded in the messages of Amir ul Mumineen that we are not looking to monopolize power. We want an all Afghan inclusive government. He has time and again urged his opposition for help in expelling the occupation. That he respects his political rivals, expounds on realization and understanding and asks for help from them in defense of our nation and honor, this clearly displays his goodwill and political insight.

4 – Sovereignty of Afghanistan

Allah Almighty has created humans free and independence is a part of their nature. No human society can make advancements in economics, politics, culture and science without independence or have control over its resources, talents and fruits of their work. Love with independence is naturally sown in the blood and body of the Afghans. History has shown that the Afghans have sacrificed their lives and everything dear for independence. All battles fought in the past decades against invasions have been for independence. No economic, military or political power has scared them in attaining their goal and neither has the lack of means, men and hard conditions been a hurdle.

If we want to once again pave the way for the country’s natural development and dignity then the independence of Afghanistan must be restored and occupation ended so that the Afghans can make decisions in the best interests of its power and people for the benefit of its nation.

It is also a reality that every nation, after attaining independence, has a need to maintain its borders, security and sovereignty and this need can only be accomplished through police and army faithful to its people, religion and nation. Therefore it is incumbent that our security apparatus be trained on religious principles and national spirit; is cleansed from prejudice on lingual, ethnical and regional basis and is bound to serving its people and securing its sovereignty. If it is not as such then such an army in not fit for maintaining its national and Islamic goals and neither can it be called a national army. Instead of working for national interests, it will be used against its religion, country and people. Hence, as much as Afghanistan needs an army, its reforming and proper training is also that much vital.

Afghanistan is an underdeveloped nation economically. It cannot maintain a highly paid army in the long term due to its expenses being several times higher than the country’s GDP. In such a condition, the government will be forced to abide by terms and sometimes unreasonable demands of lending nations, bringing the whole nation under the burden of interest and pushing them towards economic disaster. Due to this, it will be better for all Afghans to fulfill their obligation in securing the country.

It is also a reality that in the current world, a country cannot feel secure and at peace without a powerful defensive system and will have to always feel at danger. Hence it is necessary that Afghanistan builds a strong air force alongside a strong ground force in order to reassure its nation.

We must reiterate that independence is the key condition because in presence of an occupation, all this force will be used against its own people and for the goals of others. We observed in the past decade that an army built on political foundations gets used and is used against its people instead of the invasion and becomes the reason for many tragedies.

3. How can enduring peace be achieved in Afghanistan

The Islamic Emirate came into to being to bring peace to its people:

Peace and tranquility is the natural want of all creatures of Allah Almighty and especially for humans, who are in need of peace more than any other being. Today humans have made much progress; for killing and destruction, it has created small, chemical and nuclear weapons therefore it is in need of peace more than ever and efforts must be made for peace.

Islamic Emirate, for peace and order, has given great sacrifices for this mutual goal whereas it actually came into being to bring peace and security. The entire world in aware that the oppressed Afghan nation faced great difficulties before the Islamic Emirate came into being; corruption and insecurity had reached its peak; the life and property of the people were in constant danger and the country was standing on the brink of disintegration. The leaders of Islamic Emirate, with the divine help of Allah Almighty and backing of its nation, and result of many sacrifices brought end to all this anarchy such that no one could have ever imagined and transformed an atmosphere of insecurity and disorder to that of security and peace.

Taking away security from the Afghan nation under guise of September incident:

The Islamic Emirate had brought security to 95% of the country and this displays the responsibility of Islamic Emirate which it had and still has regarding the world, region and specifically its own country and nation. However with great regret, the invaders deprived the Afghan nation from this great blessing. They brought insecurity for the Afghan people in this eleven year war and fighting, brought culture of injustice and corruption, stirred up market of killings and murders, over flooded pools with blood, stuffed prisons with the Afghan people, began oppression of children, women, old men and youngsters in villages and homes, created difficulties for the lives of women which is their most basic and important right and planted seeds of enmity between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries.

Some primary problems created by this illegal and peace-shattering invasion

1. Occupying Afghanistan and disturbing atmosphere of peace.

2. Forcing an administration on Afghans embroiled in corruption and narcotics trade.

3. Working to divide the Afghan nation and country on basis of regional, lingual, tribal, political and religious animosities.

4. Nurturing narcotics while the Islamic Emirate had brought it to a complete end.

5. Violating human rights, the most important issue of which is the life and destiny of women. According to well established researches, thousands of women are targets of repression every year, hundreds of whom have even died.

Invaders and their allies don’t have a clear framework for peace:

Foreigners and Kabul do not have an inclination towards peace and neither are they ready to abide by the rules and goals of peace. If the invaders truly believe in peace, they would have listened to the legitimate demands of Islamic Emirate in the initial phase. They should have tested peace before force; if it had failed to give results then war was a last resort however they chose war as the first option.

Even now, they state one thing and do another. On the one hand they say that peace must be achieved an on the other, they add new people to the black list; they say that they will leave Afghanistan but sign strategic pacts in false hopes of prolonging their occupation. They are doing this despite being well informed that the Kabul administration can never represent the Afghan people but still bargain with them on the future of the Afghan nation.

The Kabul administration does not hold any jurisdiction or power because the Afghan people, in their own land and through the medium of Kabul, are being imprisoned by the invaders! With their presence and their help, the homes of Afghans are being recklessly raided by the invaders at night against all laws and customs; children, women and old men peacefully asleep are being mercilessly killed and they are still unable to take any steps against them.

The Kabul administration is does not seem inclined towards peace due to some steps and because it does not have a clear framework for peace. On the one hand it says that it wantd peace and on the other, martyrs tens of Mujahideen everyday or imprisons them or forces them to migrate. It shouts for peace but then unjustly and brutally executes imprisoned Mujahideen against all international laws!

Sometimes it says it wants to talk with the Islamic Emirate, sometimes it says it wants to talk to Pakistan! Such ambiguous actions will never positively impact the peace process.

In reality, they want surrender of Mujahideen under the title of peace; give up arms, abide by the constitution created under the shadow of invaders and bow your heads to our orders and we won’t say anything to you! Is this peace? Do they think that the Afghan nation gave colossal sacrifices for the past eleven years to surrender to the invaders? So that someone will assure their lives? This clearly shows that they do not have sincerity and a clear framework for peace.

Malicious propaganda against peace:

Another factor damaging peace are those efforts made through poisonous propaganda deployed inside the country which tries to depict reality in another color. Different types of propaganda is used against the ongoing Jihad; sometimes it is labeled the work of neighbors, sometimes as against education and development and sometimes is accused of causing civilian casualties but never seem to possess strong evidence and only reiterates repeated charges. Such black propaganda only prolongs the war and uproots chances for peace.

Everyone is aware that members of Islamic Emirate, for their independent Islamic and national policy, have not only tasted torture and martyrdom inside their internal prisons but have also been victims of such behavior in prisons outside the country. So can men of such determination and ideology ever become slaves of others?

The esteemed Amir ul Mumineen (may Allah protect him) has given strong and clear guidelines to his Mujahideen, who are still practicing them, in all his Eid messages regarding destruction of educational facilities, protection of civilian life and bombings in places of gatherings which have also been published in the media. However we can see that some intelligence agencies are reaching for grotesque actions (blowing up bridges, throwing acid on faces of students and targeting civilian vehicles with roadside bombings) while the Kabul administration has never given thought to the guidance of Amir ul Mumineen and is blindly using these incidents as raw material for its poisonous propaganda. Similarly, they never release findings of such incidents which show that these have not been perpetrated by the Mujahideen and are works of intelligence agencies. They are either void of courage to announce the reality or believe keeping silent is in their best interest.

They believe that with such actions, they will sideline the Islamic Emirate from people and the world and extend its power a few more days. Peace is being sacrificed in the long run with such unreasonable actions and poisonous propaganda. If this keeps continuing, it will only harm peace, country and the people.

The Kabul administration and its backers must realize that such tactics did not bring security to the people but threw them into raging fire, violated their rights and prolonged the invasion and will still fail to bring peace.

How can real peace be achieved?

The situation in Afghanistan is two faceted, one of which is foreign and the other internal. The foreign facet is tied to the foreigners and the internal to the Afghans. How can they reach an understanding so that, in accordance with the aspirations of the nation, such an independent Islamic government can come into being which will guarantee justice, stability, development, economic growth and prosperity; wipes the tears of widows and treats the wounds of the people.

The Islamic Emirate, alongside all its efforts inside the country, is struggling for a true Islamic system and enduring peace and considers it vital for human life and regards the following few points important:

1. For enduring peace, importance must be placed on the aspirations of the people. The occupation must be ended as a first step which is the want of the entire nation because this is the mother of all these tragedies. Invaders and their allies must realize that no international power can subdue the power of people and neither can the quandary end with irresponsible and unlawful agreements.

2. Islam is the religion of our people and the only guarantor of the country’s economic growth, social justice and national unity. Without an independent Islamic government, no other system can solve our problems because the Muslim Afghan nation will not accept any other system contradicting a pure independent Islamic government and they have presented countless sacrifices for this goal for the past thirty years and are still sacrificing.

3. Peace needs sincerity and good intention. Common and national interests must be favored over personal interests. Peace can only be achieved under these circumstances and not through deceit and stratagems. We are seeing that every time the Islamic Emirate takes steps towards peace, Kabul administration takes reactive tactical steps which (according to their own belief) has the potential to derail the peace process while at the same time not seem counterproductive i.e when the Islamic Emirate inaugurated its political office in Doha for peace talks, the Kabul administration, with the backing and America, recalled its ambassador to damage the peace process.

4. The leader of Islamic Emirate, the esteemed Amir ul Muminee (may Allah protect him), clearly stated in his Eid message that we only have one channel for political efforts in form of an office and have made it known to everyone. But still the Kabul administration, under the title of peace process for sabotaging peace, makes contacts with people that have not been appointed by Islamic Emirate for peace talks and then accuses the Islamic Emirate of trying to derail peace. Peace is not a game of chess where every side is laying in ambush for the other rather peace is a joint responsibility and a mean of giving right to the entitled. Peace must be looked at with this vision and ways must be paved for it.

5. The Islamic Emirate welcomes all civil societies that work for the benefit of the Afghan nation and abides by Afghan norms and humanity in the light of Islamic principles.

6. The policy of Islamic Emirate is clear regarding role of women. It will abide by all those rights given to women in the noble religion of Islam. Women in Islam have the right to choose husbands, own property, right to inheritance and right to education and work. The Islamic Emirate will safeguard the rights of women such that their legitimate rights are not violated and neither is their human dignity and Islamic requirements endangered under the guise of education and work.

7. In accordance with rules and regulations of peace, such bodies should be utilized that believe in the sanctity of peace and are famously known in the country as righteous peace brokers. They must consider establishment of peace as vital for the Afghans and must not look at it through the lens of a request made by the foreigners.

8. For peace, talks must practically be given preference over war. At this very moment, Kabul administration and its foreign allies are trying to put pressure on Mujahideen so that they make peace according to their conditions and this truly increases hurdles for peace.

9. As long as Mujahideen are imprisoned where they spend nights in torture and persecution, true peace is cannot be achieved.

10. The Islamic Emirate wants to interact with the world and region on basis of mutual respect and two-way cooperation. It did not harm anyone before neither will it today or in the future and neither will it let others use the Afghan soil against others.

To end, a few appeals to the international community regarding establishment of peace:

1. The whole impartial international community, be they countries or nations, associations or societies, especially the International Ulama Council, the Islamic Conference, Islamic governments and people, must lend all faceted help to the Afghans in putting an end to the occupation in order to remove this hurdle and pave the way for inter-Afghan understanding.

We specifically ask the member states of United Nations to stand next to the oppressed Afghan people as they stood with the Palestinian people. Just as you did not care about force and pressure from others, adopt a similar and based-on-realities policy for the Afghan nation so that on the one hand, help is rendered to a persecuted nation and on the other, the tyrants realize that their oppression and cruelty will no longer be tolerated and they end their wrong doings.

2. America and those who have allied with them under different names must answer the calls of the Afghan and their own nations, withdraw all their troops and put an end to the killing and oppression of the helpless Afghans. Instead help them with such that creates an atmosphere of peace between them.

The step taken by France in this regard is worth respecting. All the others should follow the footsteps of France and listen to the wants and interests of their people. Just as you do not desire killings, disorder, injustice, corruption and treachery for your own nations, do not desire it for others either.

3. We especially call on all those nations, whose governments have sent their sons against their approval to kill the innocent Afghan people, to take a page from the French nation and put pressure on their governments to withdraw its troops from our country.

4. The Islamic Emirate should be granted freedom of speech. It should be helped in reaching its voice to the world so they are able to themselves directly communicate their policy and demands. We also ask the international community to furnish all members of Islamic Emirate with facilities and exert efforts in removing all obstacles.

We thank the government of Japan and officials of Doshisha University for giving the Islamic Emirate an opportunity to communicate its views and policies to the world and now thank the officials of Foundation for Strategic Research and all other related sides in helping the Islamic Emirate in this regard. Other nations, in order to realize the realities, must also take similar steps.

5. We hope the international media will help properly reach the voice of the Afghan nation to the region and the world and accurately show the ground realities to the people because this is their humanitarian responsibility and from the ethics of journalism.

And this is never hard for Allah Almighty

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

AFGHANISTAN CONTINUED

Remember Adnan Latif, the prisoner at Gitmo from Yemen, whose death was declared a sucide? Well his body finally came home, but his organs were missing (stolen). In the care of the US military he arrived home missing his organs.

http://truth-out.org/news/item/11551-dead-guantanamo-prisoner-on-why-he-gav e-up-on-life

"this is a prison that does not know humanity, except the language of power, oppression and humiliation for whoever enters it. It does not differentiate between a criminal, the innocent, between the right or the sick or the elderly who is weak and is unable to bear and a man who is still bearing all this from the prison administration that is evil in mercy. Hardship is the only language that is used here. "

"A world power failed to safeguard peace and human rights."

http://truth-out.org/news/item/13818-guantanamo-prisoner-buried-new-details -death-surface

The US military aircraft carrying the cargo is only used for missions like this.

Muhammed Farhan Latif and other members of his family waited at a gatehouse at Al-Dailami Air Base in Sana'a, Yemen's capital, for the plane to arrive from Ramstein Air Base in Germany. It touched down at around 9 PM on Saturday, December 15.

The special security detail assigned to the mission unloaded the cargo - a plain aluminum box - from the aircraft. A man and a woman from the US Embassy entered the gatehouse. They had papers they wanted Muhammed to sign, but they were written in English and Muhammed doesn't speak the language.

Muhammed requested that an interpreter who accompanied him to the air base translate the documents, but the embassy officials rebuffed him, so he declined to sign the paperwork.
The aluminum box was loaded into an ambulance destined for the police hospital. Muhammed, his family and the interpreter followed the vehicle.

Nearly 11 years to the day after he was sold into a "piece of hell"- the US military base at Guantanamo Bay - for a $5,000 bounty, Adnan Farhan Abdul Latif was finally home. The mystery of how he died alone in his cell remains locked in the files of Gitmo. The confusing and often conflicting details have trickled out since his family was advised of his death in September. First it appeared to be suicide, then it wasn't suicide, then suicide again, then "acute pneumonia" played a role.

A statement issued by United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) December 15, the day Latif’s remains were repatriated, however, was definite about the manner of his death.
"The medical examiner concluded that the death was a suicide. Mr. Latif died of a self-induced overdose of prescription medication," the statement said.

Now an inquiry by United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has also found that some of the prison's standard operating procedures were not being followed and the failures played a role in facilitating Adnan's death.

Adnan never belonged at Guantanamo. Two administrations determined as much over a long and tortuous decade. But neurological damage he suffered in a 1994 car accident put him in the wrong place at the worst possible time. Muhammed wasn't sure if he and his family would ever get the opportunity to bury and properly mourn Adnan, who left their village near the city of Taiz in the summer of 2001 in search of medical care that was largely unavailable in Yemen.

On December 13, a representative of the Yemeni human rights organization HOOD passed a message from Yemen's Ministry of Human Rights to Adnan's family which said that his remains would be returned in two days. So Muhammed and other member of his family of drove five hours to Sana'a to the Ministry of Justice to meet with the chief prosecutor to obtain permission to go to the hospital to see their brother's body.

Before they traveled to Al-Dailami Air Base, they stopped over at the home of Minister of the Interior Abdul Qader Qahtan to demand a copy of Adnan's autopsy report. The minister, reading from what Muhammed believes was a ten-page translation of the document, said Adnan died "from an overdose of medication he had smuggled into his cell."

"We would like a copy of this," Muhammed told the minister.

"Soon," he replied.

At the hospital, Muhammed was led into a room by police investigators and a medical examiner to identify Adnan's remains. The box was opened. Adnan was wrapped in three layers of shroud. "I recognized the body of my brother," Muhammed told Truthout, speaking through an interpreter. "But with great difficulty. His eyes were missing and his body was in an advanced stage of disintegration. Still, I could tell it was Adnan."

Muhammed requested the medical examiner perform another autopsy on his brother. The medical examiner agreed. Muhammed and his brothers waited in another room. An hour or so later, the medical examiner returned.

"He was very upset," Muhammed said. "He told me he could not perform another autopsy because his organs were removed and the body was in bad shape."

Adnan's body was held for three months at Ramstein Air Base. Todd Breasseale, a Pentagon spokesman, told Truthout the "entirety" of Adnan's remains were returned to Yemen "for disposition."

"The condition of Mr. Latif's body is not at all dissimilar from the condition of any number of post-mortem autopsies, especially given how long ago the autopsy took place," Breasseale said. "The US returned his remains complete, though to be sure, after months of our adherence to the customs and practices of his religious faith and culture (he was not embalmed), the condition of the body presents in such a way as to make yet another autopsy difficult. While it is standard practice for small, if not trace samples of tissue and organs to be retained by the medical examiner, no complete organs remain in US possession."

Truthout spoke with the Yemeni medical examiner, Dr. Mokhtar Ahmed Alhrani, through an interpreter. He said he was unable to perform a second autopsy "because of the urgency shown by the relatives of the deceased for the burial of the body."

"Therefore, we were unable to repeat the autopsy or take sample for pathological and poison examination," Alhrani said.

He would not respond to questions about whether he told Muhammed that Adnan's organs had been removed. He said he is still trying to gain access to Latif's autopsy report, "which we were able to skim parts of in a hurried manner" and is also preparing his own medical report that he will submit to "the concerned authorities in Yemen."

At around 2:30 AM on the morning of December 16, Muhammed and his brothers left Sana'a and drove back to Taiz.

Although Muhammed had previously told Truthout that he would not accept his brother's remains without first receiving a complete copy of his autopsy report, he changed his mind after seeing his brother lying in a box.

"I could not leave him," Muhammed said.

Adnan's remains were brought into the Shawlak mosque in Taiz just before noon prayer. Hundreds of people were in attendance for what turned out to be his funeral

Adnan's 14-year-old son, Ezzi Deen, who had not seen his father since he was a toddler, looked down at his father's remains and wept loudly.

"You told me in your last letter, you're coming to me and you will never leave me again, father," Ezzi Deen said, according to Yemen journalist Nasser Arrabyee, who attended the funeral and reported on the procession. Adnan's mother did not attend the funeral. Muhammed told her the condition of her son's remains would destroy her. Since his burial, she has been bedridden and refuses to speak with anyone, Muhammed said.

Arrabyee reported that Adnan's father, Farhan Abdul Latif, told villagers who attended the funeral, "We are patient, and we are waiting for Allah's justice and punishments for America's crimes."

Arrabyee reported that a caravan of mourners took Latif's remains from the mosque to be buried at a cemetery for martyrs.

Lingering Questions

Back in the US, meanwhile, questions about Latif’s death go unanswered.

At first, the military medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on Latif believed the Guantanamo prisoner's sudden death was the result of "acute pneumonia."

Joint Task Force-Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) and SOUTHCOM officials reacted with surprise upon learning that that the high-profile prisoner, who was found face down on the floor of his cell on the afternoon of September 8, had developed the respiratory condition.

After all, Latif was medically cleared for transfer from the detention hospital where he was housed with hunger strikers to a punishment wing in Camp 5, a maximum security section of the prison, for allegedly throwing a "cocktail" of a mixture of bodily fluids at a guard a day or two prior to his death, according to unclassified notes Latif's attorney provided to Truthout.

Apparently, no one at Guantanamo was aware that Latif was suffering from acute pneumonia, one miltary official told Truthout.

Dr. Steven M. Simons, a pulmonary disease specialist in private practice in Beverly Hills, California, who was formerly chief of staff at Cedars-Sinai Health System and is also a clinical professor of medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine, said that in his experience, the majority of cases of pneumonia discovered at autopsy in patients who die of drug overdose are caused by aspiration.

"Aspiration means that material either from the mouth or stomach gets down into the lungs because the person has lost the ability to protect their airway, usually owing to a depressed level of consciousness secondary to the drug," Simons said.

As a frequent hunger striker who was routinely force-fed with the nutritional supplement Ensure, Latif was at risk of developing pneumonia due to the practice of force-feeding. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) noted in an April 2009 letter to then Secretary of Defense Robert Gates that the "debilitating risks of force-feeding include major infections, pneumonia and collapsed lungs."

It is unknown whether Latif, although housed with hunger strikers at the prison's detention hospital prior to his death, was on hunger strike at the time immediately leading up to his death, and if so, whether he was force-fed. JTF-GTMO spokespeople would not comment on the matter.

About two weeks after the completion of the autopsy report, the medical examiner concluded Latif's death wasn't the result of acute pneumonia, but that the pneumonia was instead a "contributing factor" to his death.

The toxicology test results the medical examiner received showed massive quantities of psychotropic medication Latif had been prescribed in his bloodstream, according to US officials who were briefed about the autopsy report, which remains under wraps. These officials requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

The only logical conclusion, according to the medical examiner, was that Latif committed suicide. But Capt. Robert Durand, a JTF-GTMO spokesman, told Truthout in October 2012 that although Latif "had a history of self-harm acts," he "generally refrained from activities which would potentially cause his death" and "his recent actions, activities and statements to therapists indicated that he did not appear to want to end his life."

SOPs Not Followed

Working from the autopsy report's conclusion that Latif died of a drug overdose, investigators with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and a SOUTHCOM Commander's inquiry referred to as an AR 15-6 started to probe how he was able to accumulate so much medication and successfully avoid detection by surveillance cameras and by guards who check on prisoners, at minimum, every three minutes and search prisoners' cells for contraband several times a day; additionally, corpsmen who administer medication are supposed to ensure prisoners have swallowed it by checking their mouths.

"Detainees are supposed to go into a little cage, an enclosure. Once they are in there they are provided their medication and once they take the medicine they are let out. They can't leave the enclosure until they take it," one US military official told Truthout, describing the medication administration procedures.

The SOUTHCOM inquiry into Latif's death determined that some of the prison's long-standing standard operating procedures (SOPs) were not being followed nor were they enforced, according to US officials who were briefed about the commander's inquiry.

Several military officials who were familiar with guards' written reports on Latif's behavior told Truthout Latif was considered a "belligerent" prisoner who only appeared to "calm down" when he was given his medication. But whoever was responsible for passing Latif his medication never checked to ensure he took it, US officials briefed about the commander's inquiry said.

In an investigative story published last month, Truthout reported that the only way Latif would be able to have concealed any medication was if there was a total breakdown of the SOPs at the prison facility.

Deviating from the SOP is considered to be an Article 92 violation - failure to obey an order or regulation - under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). US officials said they did not know if any JTF-GTMO personnel have been reprimanded for allegedly failing to follow the SOPs.

SOUTHCOM will make public the findings of its inquiry, possibly as early as next week.

Even if the SOPs were not followed, as the commander's inquiry found, where would Latif keep a lethal dose of medication given that in the month leading up to his death he was moved to different cells and camps and searched for contraband?

According to accounts provided to Latif's attorney, David Remes, by other prisoners, in the month leading up to his death, Latif was shuttled from Camp 6 to the camp psych ward, then to the camp hospital and finally to the disciplinary wing of Camp 5, where he was held in solitary confinement.

When prisoners are moved from their cells, their wrists and ankles are shackled. Remes' notes state that when Latif was moved from Camp 6 to the psych ward for an incident that took place in a recreation yard in August 2012, during Ramadan, he was not permitted to take any items from his cell with him.

US officials briefed about a separate, NCIS investigation into Latif's death said several theories investigators have floated include whether Latif hid his pills on his body, inside his cell and/or in his Koran. The officials pointed to an incident that took place in mid-May 2006 in which one prisoner had hidden "a cache of drugs" in his toilet.

"Other detainees had apparently saved and transferred their prescribed drugs to designated suicide victims in support of a martyrdom operation," according to an article written in the May 26, 2006, edition of The Wire, a weekly newsletter published by JTF-GTMO.

Following that incident, the guard force immediately searched prisoners' cells and other pills were allegedly found "hidden in the bindings" of some prisoners' Korans. According to Capt. Alvin Phillips, a JTF-GTMO spokesman, the May 2006 incident "resulted in the SOP that no uniform personnel are allowed to handle the Koran." Phillips did not respond to follow-up questions as to how the introduction of the new SOP would help avoid such incidents in the future.

"In the event of a need for the Koran to be searched all linguists can do so," Phillips told Truthout. Linguists "are all civilian, not military, and it removes the potential for allegations of Koran abuse by the guard force," he said.

It is unknown whether Latif had a Koran in his cell at the time of his death. Neither Phillips nor Durand would respond to questions about it. A 2009 Pentagon report that reviewed the conditions at Guantanamo said all prisoners, "regardless of disciplinary status," are given a Koran.

"SOUTHCOM has to explain the presence of a lethal amount of medication in the locked cell of the most closely watched detainee in the camp," said Remes.

The commander's inquiry determined that SOPs were also not adhered to in the case of the prisoner who assertedly committed suicide in May 2011, Hajji Nassim, an Afghan known simply as Inayatullah at Guantanamo, according to the commander's inquiry.

Nassim, according to statements released at the time by military officials, was somehow able to take a bedsheet into a prison recreation yard and hang himself. Like Latif, Nassim had a history of psychological problems and spent time in the prison's psych ward. Details surrounding his death have been shrouded in secrecy for nearly two years.

The other prisoner whose death is addressed in a commander's inquiry, Awal Gul, apparently died from a heart attack after working out on an elliptical machine.

Remarks: The medical examiner could not do an autopsy because the organs had been removed. Who removed them? US officials. WHY? To cover up what really happened and that they probably beat him to death.

I'll do a more complete report on Pakistan tomorrow. The march by Tahir al Qadri will go on as planned. He is calling for revolution and has said he will create another Tahrir Square at the Pakistani Paliament. He is calling for Constitutional Reform and a non patisan Election Commission to be created. The govt. has been saying they know the Pakistani Taliban will disrupt the march, the Pakistani Taliban keep saying no no no they will not.

http://dawn.com

Hakimullah Mehsud, in a leaflet, said they would not attack the Pakistani army in North Waziristan but concentrate on Nato forces in Afghanistan instead. (1.12.13)

Update 1.13.13

Tahir al Qadri has begun his march in Pakistan. He is tweeting about it.

http://blog.drtahirulqadri.com/post/40411105898/people-present-in-lahore-fo r-the-beginning-of-the

On 14 January 2013 we will march to Islamabad. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri's offical spokesman: Shahid Mursaleen (shahid.mursaleen@gmail.com)

Who is Tahir Qadri and what does he want? He is a Muslim who believes there is massive corruption within the ranks of the Pakistani govt. He wants a change to the Constituton and wants the Electoral Commission to be repealed. He also thinks al Qaida and some Taliban are practicing Islam incorrectly. He has written books and given speeches on Jihad to educate people. He gave a very noteworthy speech at Georgetown University in the US in Washington, DC in November 2010 to explain tenets of jihad.

Mr Qadri insists that before those elections are held, however, a system must be put on place to probe the integrity of candidates, who would have to pass a “pre-clearance” process in order to be able to stand. It would check if they had paid their taxes (a recent report found that 70% of parliamentarians did not file tax returns), whether they had defaulted on loans (many politicians use their influence to get loans written off), and so on. According to Mr Qadri, most of what he is asking for is already contained in the constitution and electoral laws, but just isn’t implemented. He denies that he is trying to end Pakistan’s democratic experiment. “I just want to put true democracy on track,” he says.

TMQ leader he will reveal six points of his of demands in Lahore and the rest of others in Islamabad. Tahir-ul-Qadri once again clarified that long march will be held as per schedule and no talks will hold back or compromise his will to take it out, adding the final negotiation will occur outside Parliament House in front of entire nation.

He donated his families gold to help fund the march .

Tahir qadri is a Sufi. The Sufis are from the Barelwis sect of Islam. Sufis believe that some of their scholars have direct links to God and the people should venerate them to gain this knowledge. The knowledge will come from God thru the Sufi to the student.

Here is a video of some of the Sufi followers at a meeting with Tahir al Qadri.

http://www.barelwis.com/articles/wrkpssd-barelwi-dance-rituals-and-prostrat ions-sujud-to-tahir-al-qadri.cfm

When the Sufi student attains gnosis at a certain level, he will dance in ecstasy (or possession depeding on your point of view).

The Naqshbandis are another Sufi sect that practice these ideas. There is even a large one here in America

http://www.naqshbandi.org/

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-01-11/pakistan-cleric-to-march-on-cap ital-to-demand-election-overhaul

Dr. Qadri seeks a revolution of the Pakistani common people to bring about a new govt. So do many of the other groups. He will tell you that the Quran says people cannot take down their government even if it is oppressing them, and this is true, yet his saying they will march to Parliament and create a Tahrir Square there is a call for revolution, not just for a new party to participate in elections.

What he has said about jihad is correct, but jihad is a complicated issue. He will say you cannot go to another country and commit terrorist events, but if foreign forces come to your country and shoot people, blow up homes, bldgs, cars (drone strikes), would committing terrorist acts in their country be permissable? He says no, Osama and Syed Qutb say yes. Osama has said, we have been attacked, keep being attacked, so why should you live in peace and security on your shores?
it is a deep question.

Qadri says only the military forces of each country can enact and participate in war, civilians are not allowed to be killed. Then what about our wars that we have been waging for the last ten years? Forces have went into villages in Night Raids and raped, killed common people, yet this is acceptable war practice.

Iraq did nothing to us, yet we went and killed Saddam and more than a million civilians. We did not like Qaddafi setting up an African financial system, so we went and killed him and many civilians.

Qadri thinks that the Pakistani youth are gravitating towards Al Qaida and the Taliban because they are being misled, but the realities of what is happening on the ground there beg for answers. When foreign forces come to your land and shoot at you, you are allowed to defend yourselves and your property. When your own govt. assists these forces, is it permissable to go and bomb their facilities? Is that still defensive jihad since they are assisting the aggressors who come to your land to slay you?

There are deep philosophical questions that need to be answered within the framework of permissable jihad and foreign policy. If the world truly understood jihad, nobody would be going to a foreign land to attack another people.

Some have seen containers filled with acid and batteries that are being shipped to Islamabadwhich they believe will be used on the protesters if they become militant. The protesters will reach Islamabad tomorrow morning.

muhammad imran?@imran4apr
Bari Imam, Golra Shareef & local Caterers have vowed to provide Shelter, Food & First aid to Long March Participants.

This is going to be historic, because the protesters say they do not plan to leave until their demands are met. There are reports that Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari have fled the country and went to Germany and Saudi Arabia. No confirmations on that yet.

Short Update on Pakistan

As usual at least once a year the intel start propaganda about Hakimullah Mehsud saying they think he is dead, that they overheard conversations etc. etc. Official Taliban spokesman Isanullah Ehsan has denied it once again.

Next update on the march led by Tahir al Qadri, the media said it was only 5,000-30,000 people, but Qadri says more people are coming and he is giving the Pakistani govt. a deadline of tomorrow. He said they can get sleep tonight, nothing will happen, but by 11 am tomorrow, Wednesday, a revolutionary sit in will begin and a million people will be coming.

"There will be justice tomorrow. You will have to stay tonight, sleep here, go outside parliament and tomorrow after 11 am (0600 GMT), it will be the inaugural address of the people's democratic revolution," Qadri said.

He demanded of the government to shift the venue of the sit-in to D-Chowk in front of Parliament House. “I am giving them (city admin) five minutes to move the stage and the lights to the place of our choice”, said he.

"People's assembly would be set up in front of the Parliament", Qadri said.
“The ones sitting in the offices out there (pointing towards PM House and Presidency) are former president and prime minister. Their time is up, our time is now”, he warned the incumbent government while addressing thousands of his devoted supporters sitting under the sky in the cold foggy night.

He told the government to dissolve the national and provincial assemblies voluntarily by 11:00 AM (Tuesday)or else people would start taking decisions of their own.

http://paktribune.com/news/Tahirul-Qadri-wants-Houses-dissolved-by-morning- 256566.html

Remarks: If revolution comes to Pakistan, Civil War will also come, and the US would be forced to intervene to secure the nuclear arsenal. These are very serious things going on over there.

PAKISTAN

The government has been trying to put down the protesters.

http://rt.com/news/pakistan-protest-parliament-corruption-massacre-158/

Several thousand people took to the streets of north-western Pakistan shouting anti-army slogans and displaying the bodies of 15 local villagers who they claim they were murdered in their homes by the military in an overnight raid. Around 3,000 protested outside the governor’s house of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Peshawar. They claim that men wearing military uniforms stormed homes and shot the villagers.

Remarks: The main group of protesters is still in Islamabad. Reports coming in are that the military are using tear gas on them and rubber bullets. Maulana Fazlur Rehman has questioned the source of Tahir ul Qadri's funding for his activities, as has Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

http://paktribune.com/news/Dont-mess-with-me-or-I-will-mess-with-you-double -Malik-256535.html
Sunday 1.13.13Calling the "prime minister wannabe" a liar, Malik offered to resign if Qadri could prove that landmines were laid in his way by the government. He also announced Rs 5 million reward for the person disclosing the source funding Dr Qadri.

[the belief is that foreign countries are sponsoring the revolution in Pakistan. - like who? An oil rich nation to the south that is friendly with the US....]

The government response to Qadri's demands is:

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday expressed the government’s resolve to hold elections on time, and rejected the charter of demands presented by the Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief, Tahirul Qadri, terming it unconstitutional.

“The government can not accept the demands as these are not in line with the constitution of Pakistan,” Kaira said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday. He said that Qadri has only one demand – dissolution of parliament and collapse of the government. The government and all the political parties would consider the TMQ demands if they adhere to the true sprit of the continuation, he added.

He remarked that Qadri wants the government, assemblies, parliament and the election commission dissolved and then get a caretaker government, but Qadri does not comprehend how can a caretaker setup be formed if all these things were dissolved. Criticising the TMQ chief for his demand that the ECP be dissolved and reconstituted, Kaira said that Qadri has not stated how a ‘neutral’ election commission would be set up.

Elections are still scheduled to be held on May 6.

Meanwhile Pakistani President Asif Zardari refuted claims that his govt. might use violence against the protesters.

"ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of any operation against participants of a sit-in being staged in Islamabad with Tehrik Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in the lead. Zardari assured the nation that there would be no operation against the demonstrators squatting in front of the Parliament House. This clarification from the president came in the evening when all sorts of speculations were being made about the government’s next line of action to deal with the massive sit-in in the Capital. No use of force would be made against the marchers in Islamabad, not at any cost, a private television anchorperson quoted the president as having said to him over telephone. Zardari meanwhile assured Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that there would be no operation against the demonstrators camped in front of D-Chowk. Shujaat Hussain had said that the situation might get out of control if the government used force against the marchers.Staff Reporters add: Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government had a plan to initiate targeted action against the participants of the sit-in but it would not be a kind of operation like that of ‘Lal Masjid Operation’.Addressing a Press conference at National Crisis management Cell of the ministry, he said the government would wait one or two days more, however if the protesters did not end the sit-in, then action could be taken against them.“We have all the modern anti-riot material including intoxicating sprays, best of the best commandos, maximum number of troops and people will see how Rehman Malik will take action against them,”

http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/natio nal/17-Jan-2013/zardari-overrules-ministers-on-use-of-force

Remarks: The Quran says you must accept whoever is put in charge of your people, you can peacefully work for change, but you must understand that God has allowed them to be in power even if they are oppressing you. It also says, God will not change the condition of the people until the people change themselves, then he can lift the oppression at a time of his choosing. A lot of people seem to have skimmed over that. The Afghans are proof of that, he took one group out of power, gave the Taliban a country, then took them out of power to test their resolve and devotion to their religion. The scholars understand this.

ALGERIA

I have not had adequate time to investigate (as a journalist) this entire situation but here is what we know so far.

There is video of one of the hostages, the French one who was executed. Denis Allex. He was a reportedly a French Secret Agent. [of course there are subtitles!]

FRANCE IS doing a ground assault right now.

Chad is also going to send troops

This is what happened 1.14.13 just before the abductions.

http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2013/01/16/260855.html

"Islamist militants have attacked and occupied a gas facility in Algeria, killing a Briton and an Algerian and taking foreign workers hostage. Algerian Interior Minister Daho Ould Kabila said troops had surrounded the living quarters at In Amenas, where some 20 people were being held.

Norwegian, French, British, US and Japanese citizens are among them.

Mr Ould Kabila said the militants wanted to leave Algeria with the hostages, which he would not allow. Earlier, the AFP news agency quoted one worker as saying the militants had demanded the release of 100 Islamist prisoners. Another report said they wanted France to end its military operation in Mali.

Dozens of Algerian workers were meanwhile said to have been released

The In Amenas gas field is operated by the Algerian state oil company, Sonatrach, along with the British oil company BP and Norway's Statoil. Mr Kabila said the militants were from Algeria and were operating under orders from Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a senior commander of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) before late last year, when he set up his own armed group after apparently falling out with other leaders.

Spokesmen for two groups believed to be led by Belmokhtar - the Khaled Abu al-Abbas Brigade and the Signed-in Blood Battalion - said they were behind the incident. The latter told Mauritania's ANI news agency that it had taken more than 40 hostages, including seven Americans, two French citizens and two British citizens.

"We are holding the Algerian and French governments, and the hostages' countries, entirely responsible for their slowness in satisfying our demands, foremost of which is an immediate halt to the aggression against our brothers in Mali," added the spokesman.

One of the workers told AFP news agency by telephone that the militants were demanding the release of 100 Islamists detained in Algeria. Another worker told France's Le Figaro newspaper that the captors had mined the facility and demanded food, water and vehicles." Algeria has been allowing French aircraft to use its air space. And the French have launched raids on neighboring country Mali using Algerian airspace.

CNN also had a reporter who was contacted by an official spokesman who spoke of the same demands as listed above. Christian Amanpour is also looking into the matter as a foreign affairs specialist.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/algerian-security-official-says-isla mists-kidnap-8-foreigners-from-bp-oil-installation/2013/01/16/0db1c254-5fd2 -11e2-9dc9-bca76dd777b8_story.html?Post+generic=%3Ftid%3Dsm_twitter_washing tonpost

The militants said they were holding 41 foreigners from the energy complex, including seven Americans.

The group — called Katibat Moulathamine or the Masked Brigade — phoned a Mauritanian news outlet to say one of its affiliates had carried out the operation at the Ain Amenas gas field, located 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) south of Algiers, the Algerian capital, and that France must cease its intervention in Mali to ensure the safety of the hostages.

BIO on Mokhtar Belmokhtar:

French intelligence dubbed Belmokhtar “the uncatchable” in 2002.

Born in Ghardaia, Algeria, in 1972, Belmokhtar started his jihadist activities early, according to his own account in an interview posted on jihadi forums in 2007. He said he travelled at the age of 19 to Afghanistan where he claimed he gained training and combat experience before returning to his homeland Algeria in 1992.

This launched him on a two-decade career of Islamic militancy, first as a member of Algeria’s Islamic Armed Group (GIA) in the country’s civil war, then as a joint founder of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which started extending its attacks against security forces into countries of the arid Sahel, which forms the southern fringe of the Sahara.

The GSPC later took up the franchise of al Qaeda’s North Africa wing, under the name al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). Belmokhtar headed one of two AQIM battalions in Algeria’s southern desert bordering Mali.

In his role as a militant Saharan jihadist leader, Belmokhtar has been linked to the 2003 kidnapping of 32 European tourists, the 2008 negotiations for the release of two Austrian captives, and 2009 negotiations for the release of two Canadian hostages.

REMARKS: If each country just stayed home, kept their troops and people within their sovereign borders, these things would not happen. Algerian oil fields should employ Algerian nationals. Foreign policy does not have to be complicated, neither does military foreign policy, do not send planes to other countries to shoot at people, stay home, secure your own borders and there will be peace in the world to the greatest extent possible.

Thanks Doug, wars really do not solve anything other than the transfer of power over a certain geographic region from one group to another. After that it is a matter of time before someone else wants control of that land. It is just a never ending cycle of violence and death. Which is why God's first command to people was "do not kill" because doing so creates hardship and every other problem that mankind will encounter, including corrupting the character with arrogance and covetousness (relating to posessions, natural resources and women).

The situation going on in Mali and Algeria shows the problems of war. However the problems in these regions go far beyond land and oil, they are about secular law and rule versus religious rule and ways of life. Al Qa'ida in the Maghreb wants Shariah law as the rule of law in these regions as well as Yemen and the world. The countries have alowed foreign investors and workers to come in and work for the oil companies etc. as part of trade agreements. Are people paid a fair wage? Most the workers do not think so, but like people everywhere else they take whatever work they can find that pays them the highest wage in the area.

Eventually ALL the financial systems, business systems will come down, but that won't be till Jesus comes back and starts his rise to power. Not until after Judgement Day will wars end, and even jihad and qital (fighting) be unnecessary. It will take a lot of transformation. For now, the battles rage on.

This is about Iyad ag Ghali, Commander in Mali

In Algeria, seven hostages and eleven militants are reportedly killed during the French led assault. The hostages were killed by summary execution. 650 hostages were released. There are differing reports one said that one American (named Fred Buttaccio) was killed, other reports say no they are both still alive. They had offerred to do a prisoner exchange, swap the two Americans in return for the release of Aafia Siddiqui, and Sheikh Abdul ar Rahman. The US response to the offer was that we do not negotiate with terrorists. I think they should have, what good does it do to have hostages killed? They could have negotiated to do the swap, and then went in with guns blazing to have the rest of them freed if necessary.

Al Jazeera is reporting the two Americans were released, along with two Germans and a Portugese man. The burned bodies of 15 people were found at the site of the gas field on Saturday, but their identities were not clear. An American citizen was confirmed dead early on Saturday, (Fred Buttaccio) but uncertainty remains over the fate of other foreigners held at the plant.

Earlier on Saturday a spokesman for the group known as Signatories in Blood told Al Jazeera that they were still open to negotiations regarding a prisoner swap with the Algerian military, after earlier negotiations broke down and led to an Algerian security services assault on the facility.

http://www.echoroukonline.com/ara/english/index.1.html

INTERVIEW WITH ANSAREDDINE MOVEMENT SPOKESMAN

http://www.echoroukonline.com/ara/articles/154415.html
There is no intention of the movement to target Algeria or Western interests in the Algerian territory, Ansareddine Movement's spokesman, Send Ould Bouamama said, contrary to what was announced by other terrorist organizations.

Bou Amama accused, in this interview with "Echorouk", the French President who is stood behind all the tragedies of the region.

How does Ansareddine movement consider the terrorist attack in Ain Amenas?

It is clear, for us war of the "terrorist" Hollande against our people in Mali, is the only cause of what happened in Ain Amenas, as it is well known that chaos leads to chaos, and violence leads to violence, this is the policy of France which is blowing the region so as to burn others, and this is what is happening in Algeria.

But the operation left losses among civilians and France was not heart?

We have no intention to target civilians, but Francois Hollande is targeting civilians, because he kills and slaughtered in our land, and he is leading a systematic target of innocents in Mali, as for why we are not targeting French interests, it is because we do not have planes to bomb Paris, and French interests in Mali and other Western interests, which help France to attack our people in Mali.

"Al Mouakioune Biddam" group (Blood signatories) announced announced its intention to target Algeria and the French interests. Will you do the same thing?

For us, Ansareddine Movement, has a clear war, and one enemy, and our activity scope is known, our war will be against the French enemy and its allies, and our operations will be in our land only, in Mali, therefore we will not touch the Algerian territory, nor Western interests in Algeria, opposite to what other groups are doing.

France announced being advanced in several cities, and taking control in KUNA City?

France lies, and practiced propaganda in its war against our people, the battles are still ongoing to repel any attack by the French army and its agents, and we have equipment and men to fight the French, and all the armies of the world for years.

Reverse to what you said, there is a large welcome from Malians to the French presence?

No, contrary to that, we have the support and sympathy for what we do, our goal is responding to the French attack, defending our nation and supporting the oppressed, though we were not obliged to fight, we did not raise arms.

REMARKS: So 11-18 militants were killed by the Algerian Special forces, 7 hostages including at least one American were summarily executed, 650 other hostages were freed, there are 32 people unaccounted for that may still be being held, because the group has still offerred to do prisoner swaps.

Update 1.20.13

ALGERIA

While the seize has ended in Algeria, the full truth has not come out as yet. For instance why were 15 bodies burned, what was being hidden about these people who had been killed? (perhaps who had killed them?) Also Al-Taher bin Shanab was leading the group who kidnapped the hostages, he is their Emir, and led the seize himself. It was such a big operation, it demanded an important leader be there there to lead the others. He did not expect to come out alive, he sought martyrdom, and it was granted to him. Mokhtar Belmokhtar was not there at the site, nor did he participate in the kidnappings of the hostages.

The Field Commander who was present and assisted Al Taher bin Shaban is Abdul Rahman al-Nigeri, from Mauritania. "Nigeri is said to be close to the overall commander of the kidnappers, Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a veteran of fighting in Afghanistan in the 1980s and Algeria’s civil war of the 1990s who now has links with al Qaeda in the region. Nigeri joined the hardline Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) in 2005 and participated in several of its “major” missions in Mali, Mauritania and Niger, including a June 2005 attack on a barracks in Mauritania where 17 soldiers were killed, the reports said." Niger is believed to have been killed during the attack.

We in al Qaeda announce this blessed operation," Mokhtar Belmokhtar said in a video, according to the Sahara Media website, which quoted from the recording but did not immediately show it.

"We are ready to negotiate with the West and the Algerian government provided they stop their bombing of Mali's Muslims," said Belmokhtar, a one-eyed veteran guerrilla who fought in Afghanistan in 1980s and in Algeria's civil war in the 1990s.

"We had around 40 jihadists, most of them from Muslim countries and some even from the West," Sahara Media quoted Belmokhtar as saying. Algerian officials say Belmokhtar's group was behind the attack but he was not present himself.

Algeria, scarred by the civil war with Islamist insurgents in the 1990s which claimed 200,000 lives, has insisted there would be no negotiation in the face of terrorism. Algiers has promised to shut its porous 1,000-km border with Mali to prevent al Qaeda-linked insurgents simply melting away into its empty desert expanses and rugged mountains. Algeria's permission for France to use its airspace, confirmed by Fabius last week, also makes it much easier to establish direct supply lines for its troops which are trying to stop the Islamist rebels from taking the whole of Mali.

Private Algerian television station Ennahar said on Sunday that 25 bodies had been discovered at the Tiguentourine plant, adding that the operation to clear the base would last 48 hours. The bodies were believed to belong to hostages executed by the militants, said Ennahar TV, which is known to have good sources within Algerian security.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/20/david-cameron-algerian-hostage- crisis
Yahia Bounouar, an Algerian journalist, told the Guardian the military found nine more bodies. These were believed to be Japanese workers at the site. He said only one worker, also believed to be Japanese, now remained unaccounted for.

http://www.echoroukonline.com/ara/articles/154484.html
Seven foreign nationals from Japan, Philippines and India were freed on Saturday, within eleven o'clock at night, Head of the People's State Council in Illizi, Mensouri Bilal told Echorouk on Saturday, near the life base in Tigentourine.

Investigations also show that there are terrorists from Tunisia, Libya, Yemen and Egypt, in addition to a Mauritanian named Abdellah Ould Ahmida, who joined "Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb" in 2009, when he was only 14, as well as a limited number of Algerians.

PAKISTAN

While the govt. dismissed Tahir Al Qadri's call for Election reforms and disbanded his protest, Imran Khan is making similar demands on the Pakistani government, that he too will lead a march.

http://dawn.com/2013/01/20/imran-threatens-tsunami-march-to-save-democracy/
ISLAMABAD: Encouraged perhaps by the people’s response to the four-day sit-in by Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran in Islamabad, Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan has threatened to launch a ‘tsunami march’ if a ‘neutral’ caretaker prime minister is not appointed before elections.

In addition there is a US Foreign Policy Drone Kill List Playbook that has been drawn up. This is the rules of who they can kill and when. It details who can be targeted for assassination. And we accept this as normal foreign policy.

http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/natio nal/20-Jan-2013/us-draws-guidebook-for-targeted-killings-report

ISRAEL

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/20/binyamin-netanyahu-palestinian- state-1967

Binyamin Netanyahu has vowed to rebuff international demands to allow a Palestinian state with a border based on the pre-1967 Green Line and its capital in East Jerusalem, as hardline pro-settler parties and factions are expected to make unprecedented gains in Tuesday's election.
"When they say, 'Go back to the 67 lines,' I stand against. When they say, 'Don't build in Jerusalem,' I stand against," the Israeli prime minister told Channel 2 in a television interview.

ISRAEL/LEBANON, AFGHANISTAN & PAKISTAN, MALI

ISRAEL/LEBANON

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/22/285029/israeli-spy-arrested-in-leba non/

Lebanese intelligence forces have detained a local man on charges of collaboration with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency for more than two decades. The man, identified as Ali Taufiq Yari, was paid some 600,000 US dollars for passing on classified information about the Hezbollah resistance movement and the Lebanese Army to the Tel Aviv regime, Al-Manar television network reported on Monday.

Remark: We subsidize spies.

They take a dim view towards spies and will find them and end their careers.

PESHAWAR: Pakistani Taliban have said the UN bodies and the United States should stop the “BJP-sponsored state terrorism in Kashmir,” otherwise the TTP has the ability to strike inside Indian-administered Kashmir. The US and UN should also order drone strikes and coalition troops invasion, to target these terror camps, which are mentioned by the Indian minister of fanning Hindu terrorism,” said Ehsan. “If the US and the UN could not take care of the state-sponsored-terrorism in Kashmir and the BJP/RSS terrorism against Muslims in India, then TTP has the ability to strike and take care of it.”

REMARKS: To me this is one of the scariest things, not because they seek to destabilize India (which is a nuclear armed country), but because they actually are embracing the idea of drone strike assassinations as being legitamite. They are even asking the US to use their arsenal of drones and do it, and then saying, if you don't then we will take care of the problem, but we wanted to offer you the first dibs at it, since the drones could do it faster and easier.

UN/US/DRONE STRIKES IN AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/26/285565/un-to-probe-uk-and-us-drone- strikes/
The United Nations (UN) is to examine Britain and the US drone strikes in Afghanistan and Pakistan based on requests by several nations, including Pakistan and two permanent members of the UN Security Council.

UN special rapporteur Ben Emmerson QC, who will head the inquiry that is to look into the military use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by Britain in Afghanistan and the US in Pakistan as well as in Africa in the Malian conflict.

The probe will cover about 20 or 30 strikes in order to assess the number of any civilian casualties, the identity of militants targeted and the legality of the strike actions, The Guardian reported.
The investigation into targeted killings by the two countries will lead to a report to the UN general assembly in autumn where, depending on the results, further action will be recommended.

MALI

US to give 32 Million dollars to train troops in Mali. (even though we cannot find the money to pay for our people and programs here, there is always money for war).

http://arabnews.com/french-led-troops-mali-seize-airport-militants-bastion
BAMAKO: French-led troops on Saturday seized the airport and a key bridge serving the Islamist stronghold of Gao in a major boost to a 16-day-old offensive to rout Al-Qaeda-linked rebels from Mali’s sprawling desert north.

France on Saturday confirmed the capture of the airport and the Wanbary bridge at Gao but said fighting was continuing in Gao itself. The airport is located about six kilometers east of Gao, while the bridge lies at the southern entrance to the town, held by the Al Qaeda-linked Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO).

Sources said earlier that the Islamists had left Gao in the wake of the French-led military offensive on January 11 to stop a triad of Al Qaeda-linked groups from pushing southward from their northern bastions toward Bamako.
An alliance of Tuareg rebels who wanted to declare an independent homeland in the north and hard-line Islamist groups seized the northern towns of Gao, Timbuktu and Kidal in April last year.
The Islamist groups include MUJAO, Ansar Dine, a homegrown Islamist group, and Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb, of which MUJAO is an offshoot.

The MUJAO said it was ready for negotiations to release Gilberto Rodriguez Leal, a French national of Portuguese origin who was kidnapped in western Mali.

“The MUJAO is ready to negotiate the release of Gilberto,” said spokesman Walid Abu Sarhaoui. “We Muslims can come to an understanding on the issue of war,” he added, without elaborating.

Although the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regional bloc has pledged more than 4,500 soldiers, their deployment has been delayed by financing and logistical problems.
Chad, which neighbors Mali and is not an ECOWAS member, has promised a total of 2,000 additional troops. They were sent to Niger to join 500 local troops to open a new front against the Islamists.

DAKAR, Senegal : A faction of one of the armed Islamist groups occupying the north of the Mali has split off from its Al-Qaeda allies and says it is willing to hold talks with the government, the leader of the new group said on Thursday.

Alghabass Ag Intallah, a senior member of the Tuareg-led Ansar Dine group which helped seize northern Mali last year from government forces, said he had created a new organization, the Islamic Movement of Azawad (MIA), and was ready to seek a negotiated solution to Mali’s conflict.

“We want to wage our war and not that of AQIM,” Ag Intallah said by telephone, referring to Al-Qaeda’s North African wing which has been at the heart of the takeover of the vast desert north by Malian and foreign Islamist fighters.

“There has to be a cease-fire so there can be talks,” he said, speaking from the town of Kidal, a Tuareg stronghold in northeast Mali seized by Ansar Dine last year. “The aim is to speak about the situation in the north.” He said the new group, which would be based in Kidal, had been in touch with mediators in Burkina Faso and Algerian authorities. He said rebel demands would be for a broad autonomy rather than independence for the north.

Ansar Dine had formed a loose alliance with AQIM and a third group, MUJWA, to impose sharia Islamic law in the desert and mountain area the size of Texas. It was not immediately possible to confirm how many fighters would leave the ranks of Ansar Dine to join the new group.

Updates 1.24.13
EGYPT, SYRIA, NORTH KOREA, TURKEY

EGYPT

There's been a lot going on there. Riots, protest marches etc. It began with an incident at a football stadium where a fight broke out, people were killed. Those responsible have been sentenced to death. Others are using this event to re-ignite their own opposition to President Morsi's regime, as it is also the anniversary of the protests at Tahrir Square which resulted in the ousting of Hosni Mubarak.

SYRIA

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/25/285531/saudi-prince-calls-for-armin g-militants/
A senior member of Saudi Arabia's monarchy has called for militants fighting against the Syrian government to be given sophisticated weapons, including anti-aircraft weapons.
Prince Turki al-Faisal, a former intelligence chief and brother of the Saudi foreign minister, made the remarks on Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

"What is needed are sophisticated, high-level weapons that can bring down planes, can take out tanks at a distance. This is not getting through," Reuters quoted the Saudi prince as saying. "I'm not in government so I don't have to be diplomatic. I assume we're sending weapons and if we were not sending weapons it would be terrible mistake on our part," al-Faisal said adding that "You have to level the playing field. Most of the weapons the rebels have come from captured Syrian stocks".

NORTH KOREA

http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/north-korea-target-us-nuclear-rocket-t ests

North Korea said Thursday it would carry out further rocket launches and a nuclear test that would target the US, dramatically stepping up its threats against a country it called its "sworn enemy."The announcement by the country's top military body came a day after the United Nations Security Council agreed to a US-backed resolution to censure and sanction North Korea for a rocket launch in December that breached UN rules.

"We are not disguising the fact that the various satellites and long-range rockets that we will fire and the high-level nuclear test we will carry out are targeted at the United States," North Korea's National Defense Commission said, according to state news agency KCNA. North Korea is believed by South Korea and other observers to be "technically ready" for a third nuclear test, and the decision to go ahead rests with leader Kim Jong-un, who pressed ahead with the December rocket launch in defiance of the UN sanctions.

REMARK: They're not shy, and they aren't playing.

TURKEY

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/panel-approves-bill-for-prevention-of-terr orism-financing.aspx?pageID=238&nID=39865&NewsCatID=338

Turkey will be demoted to the “black list” of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) if it fails to adopt legislation on the prevention of the financing of terrorism by Feb. 22, Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin said during a debate on the long-delayed draft law at the commission.

FATF is an intergovernmental organization founded to develop policies to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. It has 34 member countries including the U.S., the U.K., China, Russia and Japan and two international bodies including the EU.

Adem Sözüer, a law professor and adviser to the Justice Commission, said some articles of the bill breach the Turkish Constitution as well as the European Convention of Human Rights. “Those powers that kept people in Guantanamo without trial for years demand Turkey adopt this bill,” Sözüer said.

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/26/285658/first-nato-patriots-operatio nal-in-turkey/

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military alliance says it has made the first set of Patriot missiles operational on the Turkey-Syria border.

The United States, Germany and the Netherlands each agreed to deploy two Patriot missile batteries under the command of NATO along the Turkish-Syria border after the military alliance approved a request by Turkey for the deployment of the surface-to-air missiles in the border region on December 4, 2012.

The three countries will each send nearly 350 troops to Turkey. A number of American, German and Dutch soldiers are already stationed in the country.

quote:

This is about Iyad ag Ghali, Commander in Mali

http://www.france24.com/en/20120612-northern-mali-peace-dealer-or-wrecker-n ine-lives-ansar-dine-chief-iyad-ag-ghali

God said, "Do not murder".

and actually, on the contrary, the first thing He said was in Genesis 1:28, "Be fruitful and multiply..."

or Genesis 2:16, speaking directly to Adam; "You may eat anything in the Garden, except from the tree of knowledge..."
