I'm in. Huge fan. Caught 2 shows, a show at the Greek where he gave an inflatable doll an enema and a show in Pittsburg at the Syria Mosque with a killer Stairway to Heaven encore. He was the man. Also, I was visiting Prague in '89 and got off the train and was in the main station in this rather poor country with everyone wearing brown suits and I look up and on the wall is that famous full-size poster of him naked on the toilet! It looked SO out of place, but they idolized him! Him and Lou Reed! Ah, the czech folks always were way ahead of us. Just like a penguin in bondage....

I am a fan. I just recently finally 'got' his music this year. I got way into it and have a bunch of albums now and couple live shows. I wish I had got his music sooner. In 1988 my music tastes were not well varied. I was just into Led Zeppelin and Stevie Ray Vaughn at the time.
Inca Roads is a great tune. The ending on that is just phenominal.
My first Frank Z album I got into was: The Best Band you never heard in your life. Love that one.

Huge Frank Zappa fan here.

Hugely underrated guitarist

Superlative American composer

Dead on witty social commentator (before he got more than a bit bitter late in his career)

And as the clueless PMRC matron Tipper Gore found out to her chagrin...a pretty intellignt, articulate dude and no ones fool....

I miss you Frank ...

And by the way these albums really float my boat...

Freak Out
We're only In It for the Money
Lumpy Gravy
Hot Rats
Over Night Sensation
Apostrophe
One Size Fits All
Roxy and Elsewhere
Zappa in New York
Zoot Allures
Sheik Yerbouti
Shut Up and Play Your Guitar
Lather

Joes Garage I own but it seems to be the start of the more mean spirited Zappa IMO so it does not get as much play. Still love parts of it though....

Gov't Mule did a great version of Zappa's "Pygmy Twylyte" on the Live...With A Little Help From Our Friends (collectors edition) CD. Also, in a 1996 interview on Bob Coburn's Rockline, the ABB was asked about doing a Zappa tune and Gregg quipped, "I think 'Who are the Brain Police' would be a good one."

Well said!

Caught him live in 1988. Scalped a second row seat at the Warner Theater for forty bucks. Quite possibly the greatest concert I have ever seen. He directed the band like a conductor right down to the sound affects and zany voices. I don't think I have ever seen a tighter band live. And yes, a very, very underrated guitarist. Brilliant lyricist, a true Renassaince Man.

RIP Frank. Thanks for helping us laugh at ourselves. "It was a little bit cheesy but nicely displayed."
