Being a New York sports fan these days is terrible. I think we have by far the worst array of professional sports teams in the country. I just read that Todd Bowles the Jets coach is the longest tenured of all the NY teams which counting LI and Jersey total 9 teams.

Any thoughts on other cities that have a worse bunch? LOL

I lived in NYC for a long time, and the fans there have no concept of the sports success droughts in other cities. Maybe it's because they have at least 2 teams in each sport in the market, so Mets fans aren't going to be satisfied by the Yankees almost making the World Series last year (or Yankees fans when the Mets won the pennant in 2015), but the rest of the country just sees NYC with another quality team.

But let's get real: you compare the success of the Giants, Yankees, Mets, Rangers in just the last 10 years, you're doing much better than most markets. Yes the Knicks and the Nets have sucked, and the Jets are the Jets, but Cleveland, Cincy and Detroit are just happy to make the playoffs. WI has the Packers, but the Bucks haven't been this good (6th seed!) in 20 years, and the Brewers make the playoffs every other decade. Minneapolis hasn't had a championship since the Twins almost 30 years ago. Of course, some of those markets have college teams, which NYC doesn't really have (Rutgers and St John's being the closest, and only jaded Jets fans ever pay attention to Rutgers football).

So I will say NYC is towards the top as far as sports cities go. Yankees look good with Stanton, Didi, and Judge; Mets are at .700, Rangers went to the playoffs 4 straight seasons before this year, including a Stanley Cup appearance just 4 years ago; Giants won 2 Super Bowls in the past decade, so that leaves the Jets, Knicks, and Nets at the bottom. Boo freakin' hoo.

i am talking about now, not the past. giants won 2 games last year, jets 5, rangers are terrible, knicks and nets horrible, islanders stink so out of 9 teams you have the yankees and devils who are decent. mets got off to a great start but based on last season, not so good.

you mention Cleveland where indians and cavaliers are pretty good. Browns are the browns

cincy is pretty bad, i agree but they are only a 2 team town

minnesota has a darn good football team and basketball and hockey teams made the playoffs. Twins are decent

Milwaukee bucks made playoffs, brewers are good as are packers, no hockey team

I am talking about right now in the moment, not a year or two ago when Giants and Rangers were good

Detroit was mentioned and I'm from there. Tell me anything good that has happened in Detroit recently. Oh, wait, two teams changed stadiums. Depressing...

Detroit came to mind but when looking for a city incapable of success..........Buffalo has to be pretty much near the Top.

Yeah Buffalo is true. But they only have two teams. Not sure if having four or eight or nine teams makes it worse or not.

Speaking of Buffalo, Marv Levy is my neighbor. Actually saw him in a restaurant yesterday eating breakfast. Like me, he was reading the Chicago Tribune sports page.

Seattle

Live 6 miles from downtown and hate the bandwagon Seahawk fans. I'm surrounded by them, including my own house.

UW football suffered through a horrible 15 years. Now we're winning and the phonies are returning.

You want to be around a great fan base go to Cleveland and hang out with lifelong Brown fans.

Ah, so, like, what have you done for me lately? If you're jealous of Minnesota sports then I'm not sure how you want to quantify "worst sports city". Just making the playoffs one year? I'm just saying, I'd rather have consistent success with a rebuilding year once in a while than a quick last seed playoff appearance like the T-Wolves and the Wild. Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Giants have all been consistently successful; Knicks, Nets, Jets haven't had that recently (I'm not counting the Islanders or Devil's because no one in NYC really cares about them). It is a damn shame Dolan can't let his death grip on the Knicks loose, and the Nets don't even seem to be trying.
