Pretty Cool....

The interviewer did call him "Eric Trucks" at one point....

I thought he was gonna be skydivin, alligator wrastlin or surfing a glacier wave when I saw the title.

That is what's cool about Derek- he doesn't get above his raising. To leave one of my heroes off the list such as Django, and then add others like Charlie Christian and Chet Atkins, shows how lame folks are. Unfortunately, many fans of Derek do not listen to the same diverse musicians that he does. "Django? Who is Django?" But, he is at least getting out there and doing something to wake folks up, and send them in different directions.

Try to imagine what George Harrison's playing would have been like (especially in the early years) if there had been no Chet Atkins.

Would have been intersting to hear who Derek thought the hacks on the list were.

Thanks for the link. Too bad it wasn't longer.

I was actually pretty suprised to hear him mention hacks. I guess he may be human, well a little bit anyway.

CanadianMule - 9/1/2007 at 02:16 PM

I bet his hacks are some of the same ones as ours would be.

Maybe we should start a Hittin The Web Top 100 Hacks with a record deal or past record deals.

The interviewer was a dork and a "brief" mention of Duane in passing.

Thanks for nothing.

This interview was with Derek, not Duane. This is Derek's time- it is 2007, so I am glad he was asked about playing with Clapton- which just happened. I'd rather hear Derek mention the great and legendary guitarists that he thinks should be on the list instead of talking about Duane who is on the list. Hopefully Derek's fans that may not be hip to Christian, Django, and Atkins will now seek them out.

"Wow Derek, you don't talk about or mention Duane enough." Incrdibly unfair. I didn't ask him about Duane either, as more pertinent and CURRENT considerations were dealt with. This is exactly why I am glad Derek concentrates on his band, and hopefully more than with the ABB in th future, and glad he did the tour with Clapton, and Soul Stew will kick it up more as well. This is his time.

Really nice interview. It's been said many times over more than a decade, but he just carries himself years beyond his years.

I wish all that was playing at my house was Eat a Peach and the Layla album. I got Neil Diamond and South Pacific instead. No wonder my head is so messed up!

One of the reporters at CBS did a nice talk about Derek...maybe it was Harry Smith. Very upbeat about the Beacon 06 he took his son to and Harry stated " Derek may well be the best at his craft."
