Muleman1994 - 1/20/2019 at 06:47 PM

Before posting alleged "disgust", one should do their research.

The left-wing activist started the confrontation.

One unedited video circulated on social media Sunday appeared to show that a Native American adult approached the students and instigated the interaction, leading some commentators to retract their previous criticisms of the students.

https://twitter.com/bennyjohnson/status/1086901024969781248

Nathan Phillips, the Native American in this story has a history of going after Americans who stand up for the security of the country.

So this is what Trump's fans call making America great again. We already knew that, but here is another example.

An elderly native american vet chanting a sacred song with a drum is aggression and taunting?

I wasted bandwidth on your "unedited" video - the native american vet wasn't connected with the taunting.

He has a history of getting in people's faces.

When the far-left Antifa domestic terrorists assaulted the people at a peaceful Patriot Prayer Rally with rocks, bats and bike locks on chains the lefties said nothing.

MartinD28 - 1/20/2019 at 09:52 PM

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Students at a Kentucky Catholic school who were involved in a video showing them mocking Native Americans outside the Lincoln Memorial after a Washington rally could potentially face expulsion, according to the diocese.

In a joint statement , the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School apologized and said they are investigating and will take "appropriate action, up to and including expulsion."

These kids look like the perfect fit for internships in the White House. I'm sure Stephen Miller could be a great mentor. Their parents should be proud.

rmack - 1/20/2019 at 11:48 PM

The Americans in this scenario were the ones beating the drums. The snot-nosed overprivileged brats in MAGA hats were the children of immigrants.

BrerRabbit - 1/21/2019 at 12:19 AM

Allow me to remove my foot from my mouth to offer a revised view:

Mule your unedited vid link wasn't any good, maybe it got switched, I don't know. I managed to find a much longer clip, for sure the maga kids were actually NOT harrassing the Native guy, it looked the opposite to me, they were kind of singing along maybe sort of mocking or just fired up, it didn't seem hostile, they were enjoying themselves, as were the Indigenous march folks - the Native drummer and some other folks from the Indigenous march approached the maga bunch, nobody got hurt, there was people spewing their ideas, I didn't see one angry face or push or shove on either side. The drummer was crowded right up to the kid. Drumming and singing the AIM anthem right in his ear. A good little ceremony for the boy, learn about something outside his universe, he will be hearing that drum song for life, a bit of intercultural neurolinguistic programming never hurt anyone.

From another angle its obvious the kid was just standing there, crowded up, people on all sides, he looked like he was just tripping on the situation. Smiling, whatever, maybe apprehensive. It wasn't a big standoff. The old Native drummer wasn't "instigating" or "taunting" - he was just being a freak at a march. So was everyone else, including the Redhats. I actually heard snips of some very good conversations, nice to hear folks being intelligent Americans.

All of them Americans. Not just the Redhats.

Whatever. Nothing burger. No way the kid should get in trouble. And no reason to attack the Native drummer, who had his own perception, maybe felt like it was a spiritual battle - yet in reality, on the ground, NOTHING HAPPENED. Nothing to see here, move along.

nebish - 1/22/2019 at 02:58 AM

I haven't seen or read any reason to lay blame on the Native American activists. Now the Hebrew Israelites on the other hand....probably a good thing those were just school kids there. That could've really gotten ugly.

Nothing says LOSER, like a moron in a red maga hat.

BrerRabbit - 1/22/2019 at 04:53 AM

I watched 30 min of the Israel guys, they were just on their soapbox - they aren't violent. The whole scene looked prerty mellow actually - it was the camera angle that made it look like a standoff. I've run into those Israel guys, talked to them, they just have this old testament on steroids thing. They glare at you but they are polite. In this case it seems to me it is observers reading way more into it than what was happening.

Soundbite fever, man.

This really got me going. I wrote a handwritten 3 page letter to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Covington, describing my perspective, that the kids were fine, and so was everyone else. That it was a positive interaction, people who would normally never meet becoming aware of each other. And that the kids should not get in trouble.

Those kids probably never met an Indian in their lives. They learned something, might not register for a while, but it would be a shame for them to get hammered on and forever associate it with their cultural exchange experience.

I suggested to the Bishop perhaps Covington Catholic High School could host some traditional Native speakers, or visit the Roman Catholic Mission at Wounded Knee, to back burn this, learn from it, get some better publicity for the school.

Everything isn't a spectator sport where you have to root for a team.

As far as the drummer - I would be deeply honored to have a Native American elder sing and drum the AIM anthem at close quarters - come to think of it, I have, and sung it myself.

p.s. belated understanding, yeah nebish I get it, if it had been a bunch of yahoos in Rather Be Russian Than Democrat shirts, ugly. Maybe, but it wouldnt have been the black Israelites, I know this. Those guys are bookworms. Also the Indians, sure with the drum or singing but they don't get into street scuffles. They have class - on the rare occasions in the modern era when they employ violence it is with honor, as at Wounded Knee in 1973. Now, Antifa or that crowd, white college kids - they get pretty rude.

They do not embody MAGA. They probably do not even know that Indians were here before the colonial settlers came and then began slaughtering them to take all the land for themselves. If they were good people they would have worked with the Indians and settled in unsettled areas and shared the land, but we know the history of what happened. Nobody would say well the Europeans should have adapted their lives to Indian cultures and customs, it was possible because of the vastness of the country for everyone to settle in lands and be at peace with their neighbors. But what happened, we got them drunk and bought Manhattan for a paltry sum and than the evilness set in from there. The name Manhattan comes from the Indians, who called them Man with Hat On when referring to the colonialists who wanted to negotiate with them, but when they did not make treaties that were pleasing to them, that's when the colonialists introduced the Indians to alcohol and took advantage of them....

The Dutch called it New Amsterdam (at least he very southern tip) until the English took the bay.

per wiki:

quote:
The name Manhattan derives from the Munsee dialect of the Lenape language 'manaháhtaan' (where 'manah-' means "gather", '-aht-' means "bow" and '-aan' is an abstract element used to form verb stems). The Lenape word has been translated as "the place where we get bows" or "place for gathering the (wood to make) bows".

BrerRabbit - 1/22/2019 at 11:43 PM

So the place was already called Manhattan long before Europeans arrived. Makes a lot more sense.

Anyway, if the name of the island were derived from Indians saying "Man With Hat On" after they suddenly forgot their own ancient name for it and changed the name to describe Men With Hats On in their pidgin few words they had just learned from the settlers, it would have been in Dutch, not English. So the Indians would have called the island something more like Manhodop, from the Dutch translation of Man With Hat On: "Man Met Hoed Op".

BrerRabbit - 1/23/2019 at 12:31 AM

At the first contact and negotiations between the Indians of Hackensack, the Europeans were really ill, probably from malaria, so they were violently retching and vomiting into bags during the meetings, so the Indians named it "Hack-In-Sack".

Modern technology allows us to view every negative story on a daily basis to the palm of our hand. And not even negative news stories...we even get the negative stories of every American citizen with a smartphone and a social media account. Back in the days of traditional media, we read the news, then were disconnected from the rest of the world, which was a good thing.

Joe, blackouts, whiteouts...face paint, body paint happen all the time in sports.

https://www.si.com/more-sports/photos/2008/09/29-0superfans-blackout-vs.-wh ite-out

I don't think any of those Georgia Bulldog fans are doing anything in appropriate with their face and body paint.

Maybe some of those kids are racist. Maybe some are not. Just because a student uses face or body paint is not any kind of indication.

I verbally assaulted opposing basketball players when I was in high school. I mean not personal, but yelling "you're going to miss it", "choke", "nice shot". I was an equal opportunity yeller, black, white, male, female.

I'm just saying that showing photos of students in black paint and yelling at a black opposing player is not proof of anything.

I suppose we need a national ban on blackouts at sports venues now and send anyway anyone who shows up in black face paint.

BoytonBrother - 1/23/2019 at 08:38 PM

Who knows what actually transpired at the rally, but I can’t judge a teenager. If they were being racist and rowdy, not good, but they are kids. I think the school is primarily at fault for allowing their kids to place themselves in a dangerous situation like that. It’s not about rights - it’s about knowing when to avoid trouble, and the kid said he regrets going. I’m glad he realizes this. Shame on the school. We all have the right to go into the worse ghettos, but we don’t because of the danger.

Well, indeed this whole story was a tricky one and I stayed away for a long time, I am gonna as I always stand behind my statements, no matter how insane, one of the things that complicate this issue is that we are talking about kids, that being said a High School has the authority to set forth protocols and limits as far as how much abuse will be tolerated, conduct, attire etc, the adults parents and teachers possibly need to step up, sounds like especially in this case. I have seen and participated in the severe, but good natured abuse of maior league outfielders at both Comiskey and Wrigley Field, it never did , get racial, personal family wise, or any sexual orientation type abuse, a couple of the verbally skilled players can really make it fun and give right back!..............As Always Much Peace.........joe

By participated, I mean sat and watched and enjoyed, I am not verbally skilled, nor witty enough to jump in on that kinda shiat, can be fun as heck though when done well.
