Thread: Comey's Book Out Now 4-17-18

gina - 4/12/2018 at 10:57 PM

Former FBI director James Comey denounces Donald Trump as “untethered to truth” and likens the president to a mafia boss, in an explosive new book set to bring fresh turmoil to the White House.

Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty, out next Tuesday, is published 11 months after he was fired by Trump, who allegedly tried to lean on him to shut down an investigation into national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Remarks: Ought to be some read not for the faint hearted.

A couple of quotes from readers of the article Trump Calls Comey ‘Untruthful Slime Ball’ as Book Details Released as it appeared in the NYT.

"First Lady Michelle Obama once let it be known she didn't care for Jodi Kantor's 2012 book on the administration. That's usually the extent of the White House picking a fight with book authors.

So far, this administration we have silly fights with Hillary Clinton's What Happened, Michael Wolf's Fire and Fury, and now the James Comey work. Generally speaking, a president of the United States does not waste his time going after public figures who've published a tell all book, lest they appear weak and easily distracted."

"The president couldn't bring himself to condemn the white supremacists who assembled in Charlottesville last year, one of whom killed an innocent protestor.

The president can't bring himself to condemn a thug and autocrat like Putin.

But the president finds the time to call Comey,a career public servant who wouldn't bend his principles to fit the current administration, a "LEAKER & LIAR" and an "untruthful slime ball" who's "great honor" it was to fire him."

Reading Dark Money by Jane Mayer right now - looks like the money trail of this Radical Right coup leads directly back to fortunes made by Koch brothers and the like trading with the enemy, Nazi Germany, and profiting from the Stalin Era. These guys really are gangsters out to screw us.

Well researched and documented, worth checking out.

I want to read the book because in one of the excerpts I read, Comey explained why he did not believe one thing that someone was saying because the person was looking down and their eyes darted from side to side (which is a subconscious clue that they are lieing). The profiling, investigative viewpoint should be fascinating.

https://nypost.com/2018/04/13/comey-its-possible-trump-was-with-hookers-pee ing-on-each-other/
Comey first told Trump about the dossier during a Jan. 6, 2017, meeting at Trump Tower in Manhattan after a group of intelligence agency leaders told the president-elect that Russians had interfered with the election.

Remark: Right there, the first time Comey told Trump about the dossier from the British Agent Steele, it was after a group of INTELLIGENCE AGENCY leaders told Trump that the Russians had hacked the election. So who is behind the effort to depose Trump? The Intel people have a hand in it.

Don't you mean Kate McKinnon of SNL who does a better Sessions than Sessions, himself?

I heard a great interview with Jane when this book was first released.....The Koch brothers and the history of the family is rather fascinating. As you stated, the fortune began by working with the Soviets and Nazi's. The fact that they've built this extremely powerful industrial and now political machine should be frightening to anyone given what they're attempting to do.

Even worse is that they now have the political stooge known as Mike Pence in the White House doing the actual governing while the actual president stumbles and bumbles around tweeting about whatever criticism he took personally that day.

Why would there be? If it weren't for Comey telling congress there were looking at new evidence regarding Hillary right before the election, Hillary probably would have won. Comey had no loyalty toward Hillary. If anything, he handed the election to Trump.

Then maybe he was interfering in the outcome of an election creating suspicion of negative things towards a candidate. They have made a big deal about Trump's peeps helping to suppress negative info. before an election thereby interfering with the outcoming ofn election, but it only works one way in politics apparently.

Actually Trump got a twofer. The sky opened and both Putin & Comey independently helped Don, the golden shower guy get elected. It must have been predestination.

Wrong again junior.

Comey is under criminal investigation by the DOJ IG and the FBI.

Muleman1994 - 4/15/2018 at 05:06 PM

It takes just 34 words for Comey to admit he was influenced by his anti-Trump bias on what information he gave the president.

Stephanopoulos: “Did you tell [Trump] that the Steele dossier had been financed by his political opponents?”

Comey: “No, I didn’t.”

Stephanopoulos: “But didn’t he have a right to know that?”

Comey: “That it had been financed by his political opponents? I don’t know the answer to that. It wasn’t necessary to my goal, which was to alert him we had this information.”

BrerRabbit - 4/15/2018 at 09:35 PM

Bull. Comey said he didn't know the answer, meaning he didn't know who financed it, that he was simply alerting the president to what they had. No more, no less.

That's EXACTLY what he said. You are spinnin like a top.

I'm in the middle of a Clive Cussler book from 10 years ago plus a few other books on the nightstand (local library sells used books for a $1 or less; I need to stop!). Doubt I'll drop it to ready any of Mr. Comey's latest.

Who is trying to destroy the reputation of the FBI.................? Get a clue, Goober..........

gina - 4/18/2018 at 12:46 AM

They did an early release TODAY of the book. It is a autobiography and it is good. I recommend it. I learned several things I wondered about from the years of 2001 and onward.

One of the things is from page 96 Bush Jr. "I say what the law is for the Executive Branch" when Comey told him the bureau could not certify support for the Stellar Wind Program. a governmental (spying program). After receiving Comey's recommendations, Bush did implement them, but there were people in Bush's administration who had received Comey's recommendations prior to his talk with Bush and had chosen not to provide them to the President. It was only after Comey directly spoke with the President that he learned of these ideas.

These are the things are that are interesting. People seem to assume that the President gets all information all the time and that is not true. Particularly in Bush's case, Cheney held his own Intelligence briefings at 4 a.m. without Bush being present, and then Bush had his meetings at 7:30. Why did Cheney need private briefings?

Another interesting point is about confirmation bias, whereby people seek out information that only supports their view rather than being willing to look at all the information and then be objective about it. There's a lot of that going on.

It is not a Trump bashing book, he talks about his service under many Presidents and also his growing up and early career. It is a good book. It seemed honest, introspective and was well written. He did not try to cover anything up, he relates things that happened and what he felt about them.

It also gives you information about controversies within the administrations he has worked under not just in Washington. He covers his days under Rudy Giuliani also.

And he is the one who signed off on the FISA warrants, but the requests for them came from others.

He speaks about Abu Ghraib and the torture situation etc.

I think this is an important book for people tor read.

But if it takes Trump to task, read on.

I think he is trying to capitalize on the moment because if he doesn't, public interest might wane later on. He wants to get his name known by more people, and he wants to tell his story. Financially, he needs to have retirement income, income for his family etc. Rather than go home and mope because he was fired, he is trying to turn it around into something fun, interesting and lucrative. It is a constructive strategy.

Have you seen Comey's bank statements or investment portfolio in order to make statements like, "Financially, he needs to have retirement income, income for his family etc."?

Better yet - have you seen his tax returns?

Even better than that - have you seen Trump's tax returns? Silly me - Trump said he would show them after the audit, but then he later said the American people don't care about his tax returns.
