It was widely reported it was going to North Korea...must've been fake news!

As tensions rise, USS Carl Vinson heads to Korean Peninsula
Thomas Maresca, Special for USA TODAY Published 4:35 a.m. ET April 9, 2017 | Updated 7:30 p.m. ET April 9, 2017 -vinson-heads-korean-peninsula/100255326/

Reports at the time had said that instead of planned exercises with Australian Navy, it was going to North Korea.

I don't know if it "is" heading the wrong direction, or "was".

It is still going to the Korean peninsula:

Maybe he is going to attack australia?

Crocodile Dundee vs. US military, who would prevail in that scenario?

I doubt that Dundee has a big enough knife.

The Port of Call in Austrailia was cancelled but the prescheduled naval exercise was not.
Now that is done and the battle group is headed to station off North Korea.

It is not like the U.S. doesn't have boomers ready to take out fat boy should he make a mistake.

Of all the things to be critical of in the Trump administration, the whole blown out of proportion thing regarding the Carl Vinson and related strike group's location was a poor attempt to put egg on their face. Plenty better opportunities for that from those who wake up each day with that being their mission.

“Today it sits in the Philippine Sea just east of Okinawa, in striking range, power projection range, of North Korea if called upon to do that. And then in a few days I expect it will continue to move north,” Harris said, noting that Vinson’s fighter jets could reach North Korea in about two hours if called on for a mission, given their current location closer to Japan. He called this distance “well within our capability” but added the jets would need to be refueled during the mission. ainst-anything-north-korea-shoots-at-it

The link with quotes from U.S. Pacific Command commander Adm. Harry Harris also discusses the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carriers ability to defend itself against NK claims that they can "sink" it.
