Thread: Bear's Sonic Journals

Finally got these downloaded, so much unreleased original line up music, great quality, so cool to hear "new" Duane era music! it sounds a lot better than the original release back when they released the one cd compilation of the weekend. Hearing everything recorded, even with the tape flips is just great. I know there was an earlier thread about this and there were some complaints on how it is being released but man, a chance to get unreleased original lineup music in remastered quality? Can't believe everyone has not downloaded this and made their own cds. Just outstanding!

Keyboard Magazine had a great article on this. I certainly look forward to it.

Not everyone, especially grizzlies from the 1960s and 70s knows how to download with proprietary interface software, much less how to downsample 24bit to 16bit, with proper dither quantization settings. We arent all matrix coppertops.

Anyone needs help getting this material on to regular old CDs that will play in any stereo, or whatever, mp3, feel free to pm me, I would like to see this circulating in a user friendly form among dedicated fans.

!!!WORD TO THE WISE DO NOT BUY THE MOST COSTLY VERSION, it is total overkill high resolution, it isnt necessarily better sound. Even it were better, you would need a 20k $ audiophile system to maybe hear the difference, and the ultrasonic hearing ability of a superhero. A sound engineer on a classical music audiophile site described 24bit/192khz this way "higher resolution is not always better, and after a point can distort sound. Think standing to close to a painting."

Dont waste your $, or your drive space, the files are gigantic, like 7x the size of regular cd files. The less expensive 24bit/96khz is plenty good enough hi-rez. For the single compilation CD they are offering, they had to downsample to 16bit from 24bit, and I'm sure it sounds just fine.

Well I'm 60, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Seriously though, this is some great new music, gives me hope there will be more "new" Duane/original line up music on the way. Hopefully Bert & company can get it out soon.

But any new Duane Allman and the original Allman Brothers Band is always worth hearing, any way possible.
