So this is the band that will be at Wanee. Interesting

I'm not a big Crowes or Robinson brothers fan, but more Marcus King at Wanee makes it a little more exciting.

Soup - 1/9/2018 at 05:51 PM

I am "team Magpie Salute" all the way, but if one of these shows fits my schedule I'll go. The Black Crowes music is one of the cornerstones of my life and a chance to see Chris sing the songs again will be worth the trip.

also I like that he is saying this is basically a one and done. He gave an interview with Rolling Stone today, sorry I don't have the link but he basically said all these guys have careers and the CRB is still his bread and butter and will be busy for the rest of the year and the forseeable future....glad he isn't keeping this together. makes it more special.

And Magpie Salute is recording a double album this winter and will be busy all next year...support Rich and Marc too!!!

ABBDutchFan - 1/9/2018 at 06:39 PM

Wow...Marcus King. I didn't see that one coming. In the text in the link Chris is indeed stating that these shows will be it for the coming years because he will be recording another album with the CRB and the subsequent tour is already in the works but......wouldn't be surprised if those dates will be extended with more dates in the USA and Europe in case those 17 dates prove to be financially succesful. More money to be made from TBC legacy than from his CRB career in my humble opinion.

thresher - 1/9/2018 at 08:35 PM

Thank goodness Marcus King is in that band. Wonder where in the line-up they’ll be for Wanee....

slothrop8 - 1/9/2018 at 10:54 PM

I've really enjoyed the Magpie Salute stuff I've heard and look forward to hearing more, but I'd be team "As the Crow Flies" musically. The King/Hess/Freed frontline has the potential to be tremendous - very excited for Marcus King to be part of this.

I'd like to see Steve Gorman put together a group with Greg Rzab, Rob Clores, Jackie Green, and Luther Dickenson and we could have 3 competing groups of Crowes alumni on the road this year!

Anyone have the promo code? Many thanks.

That's what I was thinking.

sully - 1/11/2018 at 04:19 PM

the player that stood out to me was Andy Hess. He is one of my favorite bassists. His work with Steve Kimock Band was outstanding. He is what put me over the edge in seeing this show. I'll be at the E Factory in Philly for this if anyone else is attending.

plqmule - 1/11/2018 at 04:25 PM

Cool Marcus interview.

Andy Hess joined Audley for Andy Aledorts Sidemen group a couple years back, He shared bass duties on and off for the night, Here's a clip ...

I don't see it being more than a brief tour every year or two probably with a rotating cast. I don't think his taste of music is in that music anymore and the CRB is the main focus.

He's already stated that those shows are it for this year... then again he also made fun of his brother for having a tribute band.

sully - 1/11/2018 at 06:50 PM

Thx Fretsman!

Well said wareagle, I agree.

You could see and feel on the last two BC studio releases that the vibe was
changing more towards Chris's solo stuff stylistically . Rich had mentioned that before in an
interview I read , and he wanted more guitar driven songs. You are right,
his solo stuff is a different bird so to speak than the Crowes. Which is fine.

I love the BC's, and dig Rich's outside work even more, always have.
I never got much into Chris solo stuff, I tried but just not my cup of tea.
If "As The Crowe Flies" comes around my neck of the woods, I might have to go.
I really like Audley alot,I have heard a little of Marcus King, and he sounds very
good, so he has strong guys in the guitar dept and with Andy Hess and the others it should be a tight band.

MonroeWatson - 1/11/2018 at 10:19 PM

Chris taking the songs of the Black Crowes on tour without Rich on guitar is like Mick Jagger singing the songs of the Rolling Stones without Keith Richards. Hell, it may be worse.

Audley and Marcus are lead guitar players. Anyone who has seen the Black Crowes, or Magpie Salute for that matter, knows how integral the rhythm guitar sound is to these songs. Good luck to this collective of musicians, but it won't be easy to make it stand up to what's come before.

As evidenced by the GIF above, Malcolm and Angus Young basically are the sound of AC/DC, and pulled off a pretty decent sound with Axl Rose on vocals. Imagine Brian Johnson getting out there to play a show of AC/DC tunes with some hired hands instead of the Young Brothers.

I will have to check out Marcus more, as I have not listened to him enough to keep my interest.

WaitinForRain - 1/13/2018 at 09:27 PM

I haven't heard enough from Marcus King to make me want to hear more. Can say the same thing for Duane Betts.
Good players but don't think they are all that original.

Watch the end of the last Warren Haynes Xmas Jam. Marcus King comes on around 2am Nugstv time and just destroys it. That kid is phenomenal and capable of doing a stellar job the way Marc Ford and Luther did. The tough part will be providing that feel-good rhythm that Rich does so well. Rich is so smooth and underrated but these guys are pros. We shall see. I’m not gonna complain about Chris singing Crowes tunes with Marcus on lead. Guarantee he does Wiser Time and Thorn in my pride justice before that mini tour ends.

Buckeye - 1/14/2018 at 12:57 PM

It's a shame Chris R. is such an @ss. The Black Crowes were such a great band and there is no reason we shouldn't be enjoying new output and seeing this band on tour. Some of the CRB is okay, but live they are just plain boring in my opinion.

Rich's new solo stuff has been very good but he would benefit from stronger vocals at times, I think Magpie is great stuff.

I really want to like Marcus King. His playing is great but his vocals and songs just don't grab me.

Pretty much how I feel as well

bobbysuede - 1/20/2018 at 08:27 PM

Usually just lurk and read but......
chris talks soooo much **** .

insulted his brother's band.
insinuated others doing stuff just for the money,
and then....... ATCF
not a good look.

just my 2 cents
would still go, but it's on a school night!

I like him, I don't have any CD's yet, but I'd see him solo.
