Hartford, 8/12/06, Dodge Music Center
We got to the Music Center early ( 25 of us in a party van ) and the parking lots were filling up fast. After getting loosened up at the van, we made sure to get in on time to see Derek and his band. They started just after 6:00. We had great seats down front and alot of the crowd had not come in yet. I've see DTB many times in all kinds of places but this was the best. to see these guys in an amphitheatre this size, up close and unobstructed was heaven. The sound was perfect. They played a mixed set as they always do. Tight as usual. I think Derek's style stays focused but he seems to allow the many influences he is constantly exposed to creep in. I love this band!
As always Hartford, The Allman Brothers Band! What a great show. As everyone knows, Greg is looking and sounding better than he ever has. Warren is the best. Him and Derek traded licks all night. These guys are so powerful together. Greg and Warren singing. WOW! Talk about the blues. Butch and Jaimoe keep pounding. Quinones is incredible. Just the right touch. Go Oteil. Highlights were many. Woman Across The River, Into The Mystic, Acoustic Melissa, One Way Out, Whipping Post. The time was a little short so no Oteil bass singing or extended drums but plenty of music just the same. There is still nothing like ABB and summer!
Tom Petty was very good. I've always liked his music and did not realize what a showman he is. The live sound is identical to the recorded sound. Petty Wails!
Great ride home on the party van!
