ABB - Meadowbrook, Gilford, NH, 8/09/2002

The Brothers started this run of shows last night here in New Hampshire, and it was a smoker! Usually in order to see great shows I find I have to leave New Hampshire. I fully expected a sitting, half-interested crowd a-la the last NH shows at Holman Stadium.
Instead, the crowd was excited and the band was on FIRE. Insert all sorts of superlatives here. Oteil Burbridge is king of the universe. Derek Trucks might be from another universe...
While I'm a total sucker for any show that opens with Hot'lanta, this was a particularly fine night by any standard. I've never seen Come and Go Blues played so well. Just out of sight.
From where I stood the crowd seemed to like the new songs ok... Woman across the river (and the new instrumental) are still the songs that move my feet the most.
The band seemed real happy, it's nice to see Gregg smiling so much and just enjoying the whole band. Go see them on this run if you can. They're just sounding great.

Next time, more dinner and less beer for this camper but other than that it was damn near perfect.

Wishing everybody safe travels, good tunes.

Also went to both shows, Meadowbrook and Tweeter. Meadowbrook, was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, it won't be a surprise no more after this year. Word will get out and the place will be packed with what you see and get at Tweeter. Too bad. Both shows were the best I've seen the Band do in years. Derek absolutely smoked at Tweeter. Overall, I enjoyed the Meadowbrook show better. Lot less talking and yahooing, and people more interested in being there to see and hear the band. Previous reviews about the music at both venues are right on.
