ABB - Meadowbrook, Gilford, NH, 8/9/2002
Here to report the band is alive and well. The gang looked very happy to be back from break, good vibes and hugs all around, and the music, damm!! This show is one for the books! First off, hats off to Meadowbrook, they built a nice pavilion, the staff for the most part are good, and the acoustics are super. Had great seats 14
rows back dead center. Gregg, sounded great, and you could hear his voice clear, I mean crystal clear.
Can not do setlists in order, but hear are some highlights, Opened with Hot 'Lanta, into Midnight Rider, Ain't Wastin Time, Warren on Women Across the River. New tunes were Who To Believe, real smooth, and a killer kick my ass Desdemona. Also, Come and Go Blues, (nailed it right this time), Rockin Horse, Derek and Warren WOW! Statesboro Blues with Warren on slide.
Have to say this, Derek and Warren were locked in tonight. I noticed last year during solos, Warren would look at Derek, play some riffs, and Derek would just stare back at him, and not really do what Warren was start. Not last night, Derek was shhoting the riffs right back. They had the best interplay between the two of them since they joined forces. Also of note was the amount of lead solos Derek did, I mean, he had killer slide stuff too, but it was more balanced between the two. Perhaps Derek's finest performance as an Allman, at least since he and Warren have been together.
The Gem jam of the night between the two was on Southbound. Anyone out there still having any questions about this band and lineup, get a copy of this show, or meet us all at the Tweeter Center tonight.
This is the real deal! The road goes on forever!
P. S. Liz Reed killer drums and bass to close, One Way Out for an encore
