Radio Hittin' The Web plays Allman Brothers Band and related music 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our playlist conforms to the Digital Millenium Computing Act which, amongst other things, restricts how often music by a particular artist can be played. So -- you will hear a variety of artists mixed in with ABB and closely related bands, both because we think you'll enjoy the variety, and to conform to DMCA guidelines.

Technical Info

Radio Hittin' The Web is broadcast through the facilities of Live365. To listen, you need a media player such as WinAMP or Windows Media Player. You need to be able to play the Streaming MP3 format. Live365's site has detailed instructions and FAQ's for connecting and listening -- we're not going to try to recreate all that here. They even have their own, free, downloadable streaming MP3 player, but it does show banner ads. WinAMP is pretty light and doesn't show ads.

Here are some quick instructions for a couple of the most popular players -- RealPlayer, WinAMP and Windows Media Player.

RealPlayer Users:

  1. Start RealPlayer
  2. Copy and paste or type this link into the "Location:" box: http://www.live365.com/play/210464
  3. Hit enter and Radio HTW should start playing
  4. Type Control-A to bookmark Radio HTW in RealPlayer.
  5. In the future, click Favorites, My Favorites, and Radio HTW and you will tune the station.

WinAMP Users:

  1. Start WinAMP
  2. Type Control-L to "Open a Location" (a link)
  3. Copy and paste or type in this link: http://www.live365.com/play/210464
  4. Hit enter and Radio HTW should start playing
  5. Hit Alt-I to save Radio HTW as a bookmark in WinAMP
  6. In the future, open the WinAMP menu (click on the upper left corner), pick Bookmarks, then Radio HTW and you should hear the station.
  7. If you have a problem, try downloading the newest WinAMP player

Windows Media Player Users:

  1. Start Windows Media Player
  2. Type Control-U to "Open" a link. (or click the File menu, then "Open URL")
  3. Copy and paste or type in this link: http://www.live365.com/play/210464
  4. Hit enter and Radio HTW should start playing
  5. The next time you use Media Player, Radio HTW should be in the drop down list on the "Open" link menu so you don't have to type in the URL.

If you need a streaming MP3 player and for some reason don't want to use Live365's, you can download and install one from one of the following sites.

Most people have RealPlayer already. They have a free "basic" player that is all you need, but they push their RealPlayer Plus which is pretty inexpensive. If you want to try the free one, you have to look hard to find the link to download it -- as I write this it's in a plain link in the middle of the page.

Radio HTW streams songs to you. You cannot download them, but instead you can enjoy them as they are played, coming over the speakers attached to your computer. If you connect the output of your computer's sound card to your stereo system, you'll enjoy a higher quality sound.

To listen to Radio HTW, you'll need a reasonably fast Internet connection. Our stream plays at 24 Kbps, which means that a 28.8KB modem can just keep up. If you have a 28.8K modem and you get a lower speed connection, such as 19,600 bps, you will hear the music "skipping." A 56K modem should work nicely, even if you only get a connection speed in the mid to high 30's.

If you access the Internet (surf the web, download email, etc.) while you are listening to Radio HTW, you may also hear the Radio HTW signal "skip." No harm is done, you just need a faster connection to handle everything you are trying to do at once.

If you have a cable modem, a DSL connection, or faster, you are in great shape and most of the time you should enjoy a steady signal.

At it's best, a 24KBPS audio stream like Radio HTW produces sound somewhere between AM and FM radio in quality. So consider this as a good way to enjoy some music, but to really hear these artists at their best you should support them by purchasing their music on CD. We have included links to help you find and buy the music online from CD-Now. Just as with www.allmanbrothersband.com, a portion of your purchase price goes to help support HTW. You pay exactly the same as you would if you went directly to CD-Now to shop -- they just send us a referral fee. Thanks in advance for your support!!

"Please Play XXXXX on Radio HTW!"

Radio Hittin' The Web is largely made up of our CD collections, artist contributions, and CDs we've purchased for the cause. Fortunately, folks are beginning to help Radio HTW's library grow. If you're interested in helping, the guidelines are:

  • We can play commercially released CDs on Radio HTW, and can't play unauthorized recordings, or live shows.
  • We can play unreleased material (like the Oteil and Left Foot Down tunes we have) if we have written permission to do so from anyone with a copyright or license interest in the material. If an artist is unsigned and the material is original, that usually just means the artist.
  • We cannot return CD's so don't send them if you want them back. We will listen to them and add them to the playlist if we think the music fits the overall theme of the station.
  • We will rotate the playlist periodically to keep things fresh and to maintain the bulk of what we play related to the bands represented here on HTW.

Thanks!
